⁴ Once when Jezebel had tried to kill all the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had hidden 100 of them in two caves. He put fifty prophets in each cave and supplied them with food and water.)

² Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

³⁵ For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.

⁹ “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another.

⁵ Then Jonah went out to the east side of the city and made a shelter to sit under as he waited to see what would happen to the city. ⁶ And the Lord God arranged for a leafy plant to grow there, and soon it spread its broad leaves over Jonah’s head, shading him from the sun. This eased his discomfort, and Jonah was very grateful for the plant.

⁷ But God also arranged for a worm! The next morning at dawn the worm ate through the stem of the plant so that it withered away. ⁸ And as the sun grew hot, God arranged for a scorching east wind to blow on Jonah. The sun beat down on his head until he grew faint and wished to die. “Death is certainly better than living like this!” he exclaimed.

Rules for the Princes

⁹ “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Enough, you princes of Israel! Stop your violence and oppression and do what is just and right. Quit robbing and cheating my people out of their land. Stop expelling them from their homes, says the Sovereign Lord. ¹⁰ Use only honest weights and scales and honest measures, both dry and liquid.^{[a] 11} The homer^[b] will be your standard unit for measuring volume. The ephah and the bath^[c] will each measure one-tenth of a homer. ¹² The standard unit for weight will be the silver shekel.^[d] One shekel will consist of twenty gerahs, and sixty shekels will be equal to one mina.^[e]
