“Woe to ^(B)Nebo!
For it is plundered,
^(C)Kirjathaim is shamed and taken;
^[a]The high stronghold is shamed and dismayed—

¹⁸ “O ^(A)daughter inhabiting ^(B)Dibon,
Come down from your glory,
And sit in thirst;
For the plunderer of Moab has come against you,
He has destroyed your strongholds.

Instead of a sweet smell there will be a stench;
Instead of a sash, a rope;
Instead of well-set hair, ^(A)baldness;
Instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth;
And ^[a]branding instead of beauty.

³⁰ “But we have shot at them;
Heshbon has perished ^(A)as far as Dibon.
Then we laid waste as far as Nophah,
Which reaches to ^(B)Medeba.”

³⁷ “For ^(A)every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped;
On all the hands shall be cuts, and ^(B)on the loins sackcloth—
³⁸ A general lamentation
On all the ^(C)housetops of Moab,
And in its streets;
For I have ^(D)broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure,” says the Lord.
³⁹ “They shall wail:
‘How she is broken down!
How Moab has turned her back with shame!’
So Moab shall be a derision
And a dismay to all those about her.”
