²⁰ You intended to harm me,^(A) but God intended^(B) it for good^(C) to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.^(D)

²³ This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge;^(A) and you, with the help of wicked men,^[a] put him to death by nailing him to the cross.^(B)

²⁷ The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus,^(A) yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets^(B) that are read every Sabbath. ²⁸ Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.^{(C) 29} When they had carried out all that was written about him,^(D) they took him down from the cross^(E) and laid him in a tomb.^{(F) 30} But God raised him from the dead,^(G)

¹¹ Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered?^{(A) 12} Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my predecessors^(B) deliver them—the gods of Gozan, Harran,^(C) Rezeph and the people of Eden^(D) who were in Tel Assar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath or the king of Arpad?^(E) Where are the kings of Lair, Sepharvaim,^(F) Hena and Ivvah?”^(G)

¹⁸ “Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’ Have the gods of any nations ever delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria? ¹⁹ Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad?^(A) Where are the gods of Sepharvaim?^(B) Have they rescued Samaria^(C) from my hand? ²⁰ Who of all the gods^(D) of these countries have been able to save their lands from me? How then can the Lord deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”^(E)
