⁴⁴ Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

1 The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, one ^(A)of the priests who were in ^(B)Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,

¹⁸ Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities.

⁸ Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in ^(A)the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the Lord, and said to me, ‘Buy my field that is at ^(B)Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.

²⁶ And to Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to ^(A)Anathoth, to your estate, for you deserve death. But I will not at this time put you to death, ^(B)because you carried the ark of the Lord God before David my father, ^(C)and because you shared in all my father's affliction.”

²⁹ And they named the city ^(A)Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor, who was born to Israel; but ^(B)the name of the city was Laish at the first.

⁷ Then the five men departed and came to ^(A)Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, ^(B)quiet and unsuspecting, lacking^[a] nothing that is in the earth and possessing wealth, and how ^(C)they were far from the Sidonians and had no dealings with anyone.
