mi acción salvadora está en camino;
con mi poder gobernaré a los pueblos.
Los países del mar esperarán en mí
y confiarán en mi poder.

Certainly the Lord will console Zion;
he will console all her ruins.
He will make her wilderness like Eden,
her arid rift valley like the garden of the Lord.[a]
Happiness and joy will be restored to[b] her,
thanksgiving and the sound of music.
Pay attention to me, my people.
Listen to me, my people!
For[c] I will issue a decree,[d]
I will make my justice a light to the nations.[e]
I am ready to vindicate,[f]
I am ready to deliver,[g]
I will establish justice among the nations.[h]
The coastlands[i] wait patiently for me;
they wait in anticipation for the revelation of my power.[j]

Footnotes

  1. Isaiah 51:3 sn The rift valley (עֲרָבָה, ʿaravah) is known for its dry, desert-like conditions in the area of the Dead Sea and southward (although it also includes the Jordan Valley to the north). The wilderness (מִדְבָּר, midbar) is an area that receives less than twelve inches of rain per year and so can only support meager vegetation at best. The imagery here focuses on the transformation from arid and lifeless to watered and luxuriant.

For the Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.

My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.
