24 Therefore, as tongues of fire(A) lick up straw(B)
    and as dry grass sinks down in the flames,
so their roots will decay(C)
    and their flowers blow away like dust;(D)
for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty
    and spurned the word(E) of the Holy One(F) of Israel.
25 Therefore the Lord’s anger(G) burns against his people;
    his hand is raised and he strikes them down.
The mountains shake,(H)
    and the dead bodies(I) are like refuse(J) in the streets.(K)

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,(L)
    his hand is still upraised.(M)

26 He lifts up a banner(N) for the distant nations,
    he whistles(O) for those at the ends of the earth.(P)
Here they come,
    swiftly and speedily!

24 Therefore, (A)as the [a]fire devours the stubble,
And the flame consumes the chaff,
So (B)their root will be as rottenness,
And their blossom will ascend like dust;
Because they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts,
And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 (C)Therefore the anger of the Lord is aroused against His people;
He has stretched out His hand against them
And stricken them,
And (D)the hills trembled.
Their carcasses were as refuse in the midst of the streets.

(E)For all this His anger is not turned away,
But His hand is stretched out still.

26 (F)He will lift up a banner to the nations from afar,
And will (G)whistle to them from (H)the end of the earth;
Surely (I)they shall come with speed, swiftly.

  1. Isaiah 5:24 Lit. tongue of fire

24 Therefore, (A)as a tongue of fire consumes stubble,
And dry grass collapses in the flame,
So their (B)root will become (C)like rot, and their blossom [a]blow away like dust;
For they have (D)rejected the Law of the Lord of armies,
And discarded the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 For this reason the (E)anger of the Lord has burned against His people,
And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them.
And the (F)mountains quaked, and their (G)corpses [b]lay like refuse in the middle of the streets.
(H)Despite all this, His anger [c]is not spent,
But His (I)hand is still stretched out.

26 He will also lift up a (J)flag to the distant [d]nation,
And (K)whistle for it (L)from the ends of the earth;
And behold, it will (M)come with speed swiftly.
