Mensajeros de Babilonia(A)
39 En aquel tiempo Merodac Baladán, hijo de Baladán y rey de Babilonia, envió cartas y un regalo a Ezequías, porque supo que había estado enfermo y que se había recuperado. 2 Ezequías se alegró al recibir esto y mostró a los mensajeros todos sus tesoros: la plata, el oro, las especias, el aceite fino, todo su arsenal y todo lo que había en ellos. No hubo nada en su palacio ni en todo su reino que Ezequías no les mostrara.
3 Entonces el profeta Isaías fue a ver al rey Ezequías y le preguntó:
—¿Qué dijeron esos hombres? ¿De dónde vinieron?
—Vinieron de Babilonia, un país lejano —respondió Ezequías.
4 —¿Y qué vieron en tu palacio? —preguntó el profeta.
—Vieron todo lo que hay en él —contestó Ezequías—. No hay nada en mis tesoros que yo no les haya mostrado.
5 Entonces Isaías dijo:
—Oye la palabra del Señor de los Ejércitos: 6 Sin duda vendrán días en que todo lo que hay en tu palacio y todo lo que tus antepasados atesoraron hasta el día de hoy, será llevado a Babilonia. No quedará nada —dice el Señor—. 7 Y algunos de tus hijos, tus descendientes, serán llevados para servir como eunucos en el palacio del rey de Babilonia.
8 —El mensaje del Señor que tú me has traído es bueno —respondió Ezequías.
Y es que pensaba: «Al menos mientras yo viva, habrá paz y seguridad».

Envoys From Babylon(A)
39 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon(B) sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of his illness and recovery. 2 Hezekiah received the envoys(C) gladly and showed them what was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold,(D) the spices, the fine olive oil—his entire armory and everything found among his treasures.(E) There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
3 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,(F)” Hezekiah replied. “They came to me from Babylon.”
4 The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?”
“They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
5 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word(G) of the Lord Almighty: 6 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.(H) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 7 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.(I)”
8 “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,(J)” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my lifetime.(K)”

Hezekiah’s Folly
39 At that time(A) Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah since he heard that he had been sick and had recovered. 2 Hezekiah was pleased with the letters, and he showed the envoys his treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil—and all his armory, and everything that was found in his treasuries.(B) There was nothing in his palace and in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them.(C)
3 Then the prophet Isaiah came to King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men say, and where did they come to you from?”
Hezekiah replied, “They came to me from a distant country, from Babylon.”
4 Isaiah asked, “What have they seen in your palace?”
Hezekiah answered, “They have seen everything in my palace. There isn’t anything in my treasuries that I didn’t show them.”
5 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord of Armies:(D) 6 ‘Look, the days are coming when everything in your palace and all that your predecessors have stored up until today will be carried off to Babylon; nothing will be left,’ says the Lord.(E) 7 ‘Some of your descendants—who come from you, whom you father—will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”
8 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good,” for he thought: There will be peace and security during my lifetime.(F)
