Enfermedad y curación de Ezequías (2 Re 20,1-6.9.11)
38 Por aquel tiempo enfermó gravemente Ezequías. El profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, fue a visitarlo y le dijo:
— Así dice el Señor: Pon en orden tus asuntos, pues vas a morir; no te curarás.
2 Ezequías se volvió cara a la pared y oró al Señor 3 con estas palabras:
— ¡Ay, Señor! Recuerda que me he comportado con fidelidad y rectitud en tu presencia, haciendo lo que te agrada.
Y rompió a llorar a lágrima viva. 4 El Señor volvió a hablar a Isaías:
5 — Anda y di a Ezequías: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de tu antepasado David: He oído tu oración y he visto tus lágrimas. Pues bien, alargaré tu vida otros quince años. 6 Libraré a ti y a esta ciudad de caer en poder del rey de Asiria y seré el escudo protector de esta ciudad. 7 Y esta será la señal de que el Señor cumplirá la promesa que te ha hecho: 8 Haré que la sombra del sol retroceda los diez grados que ha bajado en las escaleras de Ajaz”.
Y la sombra del sol retrocedió los diez grados que había bajado en las escaleras.
Cántico de Ezequías
9 Cántico de Ezequías, rey de Judá, cuando se recuperó de su enfermedad:
10 Yo pensé: “Ahora en la mitad
de mis días he de irme
a las puertas del reino de los muertos,
privado del resto de mis años”.
11 Pensaba: “Ya no veré al Señor
en la tierra de los vivos;
ya a nadie contemplaré
entre los habitantes del mundo.
12 Desmontan mi vida y se la llevan
igual que una tienda de pastores.
Devanas mi vida como tejedor
y cortas la trama;
de la mañana a la noche acabas conmigo,
13 mientras yo grito hasta el amanecer.
Quiebras mis huesos como un león,
de la mañana a la noche acabas conmigo.
14 Estoy piando como golondrina,
zureo igual que paloma;
mis ojos se consumen mirando a lo alto.
¡Señor, me siento oprimido,
sal fiador en mi favor!”.
15 ¿Pero qué puedo decirle
si es él quien lo ha hecho?
Caminaré lo que me queda de vida
sumido en la amargura de mi alma.
16 Sobreviven los que el Señor protege,
y entre ellos alentará mi espíritu:
tú me curas y me mantienes con vida.
17 La amargura se me ha vuelto dicha,
pues has detenido mi vida
al pie de una tumba vacía:
has echado a tus espaldas
todas mis torpes acciones.
18 En el reino de los muertos
nadie te da gracias;
tampoco la muerte te alaba,
ni espera en tu fidelidad
la gente que baja a la fosa.
19 Sólo la vida te da gracias,
como hago yo ahora ante ti.
El padre enseña a los hijos
lo que es tu fidelidad.
20 Señor, sálvame
y haremos resonar las arpas
todos los días de nuestra vida
en el Templo del Señor.
21 Isaías entonces dijo:
— Que traigan un emplasto de higos y se lo pongan en la herida para que se cure.
22 Intervino Ezequías:
— ¿Cuál es la prueba de que subiré al Templo del Señor?

38 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.
2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord,
3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,
5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.
7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken;
8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.
9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:
10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.
11 I said, I shall not see the Lord, even the Lord, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
12 Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.
15 What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.
17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.
19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.
21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.
22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?

38 In (B)those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: (C)‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’ ”
2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, 3 and said, (D)“Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a [a]loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your (E)sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, 5 “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years. 6 I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and (F)I will defend this city.” ’ 7 And this is (G)the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing which He has spoken: 8 Behold, I will bring the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward.” So the sun returned ten degrees on the dial by which it had gone down.
9 This is the writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness:
10 I said,
“In the prime of my life
I shall go to the gates of Sheol;
I am deprived of the remainder of my years.”
11 I said,
“I shall not see [b]Yah,
The Lord (H)in the land of the living;
I shall observe man no more [c]among the inhabitants of [d]the world.
12 (I)My life span is gone,
Taken from me like a shepherd’s tent;
I have cut off my life like a weaver.
He cuts me off from the loom;
From day until night You make an end of me.
13 I have considered until morning—
Like a lion,
So He breaks all my bones;
From day until night You make an end of me.
14 Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered;
(J)I mourned like a dove;
My eyes fail from looking upward.
O [e]Lord, I am oppressed;
[f]Undertake for me!
15 “What shall I say?
[g]He has both spoken to me,
And He Himself has done it.
I shall walk carefully all my years
(K)In the bitterness of my soul.
16 O Lord, by these things men live;
And in all these things is the life of my spirit;
So You will restore me and make me live.
17 Indeed it was for my own peace
That I had great bitterness;
But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption,
For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.
18 For (L)Sheol cannot thank You,
Death cannot praise You;
Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.
19 The living, the living man, he shall praise You,
As I do this day;
(M)The father shall make known Your truth to the children.
20 “The Lord was ready to save me;
Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments
All the days of our life, in the house of the Lord.”
21 Now (N)Isaiah had said, “Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it as a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover.”
22 And (O)Hezekiah had said, “What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?”

12 My dwelling is removed, and is carried away from me as a shepherd’s tent:
I have rolled up, like a weaver, my life; he will cut me off from the [h]loom:
From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
13 [i]I quieted myself until morning; as a lion, so he breaketh all my bones:
From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
14 Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chatter;
I did moan as a dove; mine eyes fail with looking upward:
O Lord, I am oppressed, be thou my surety.
