Esperanza en el Señor
33 ¡Ay de ti que destruyes(A),
y no has sido destruido;
y de aquel que es pérfido(B), cuando otros no actuaron con perfidia contra él!
Cuando termines de destruir, serás destruido(C);
cuando acabes de actuar con perfidia, con perfidia actuarán contra ti(D).
2 Oh Señor, ten piedad de nosotros(E); en ti hemos esperado(F).
Sé nuestra[a] fortaleza[b](G) cada mañana,
también nuestra salvación en tiempo de angustia(H).
3 Al estruendo del tumulto los pueblos huyen(I);
al levantarte tú las naciones se dispersan(J);
4 se recoge el[c] botín como recoge la oruga,
se lanzan sobre él como se lanzan las langostas.
5 Exaltado es el Señor(K), pues mora en lo alto;
ha llenado a Sión de derecho y de justicia(L).
6 Él será la seguridad[d](M) de tus tiempos,
abundancia de salvación(N), sabiduría y conocimiento(O);
el temor del Señor(P) es tu[e] tesoro.
7 He aquí, sus valientes claman en las calles[f],
los mensajeros(Q) de paz lloran amargamente.
8 Las calzadas están desiertas, el transeúnte ya no pasa[g](R);
ha quebrantado el pacto(S), ha despreciado las ciudades[h],
no tiene en estima al hombre.
9 De duelo está la tierra y languidece(T),
el Líbano(U) está avergonzado y se marchita;
Sarón(V) es como una llanura desierta,
y pierden[i] su follaje Basán y el Carmelo.
10 Ahora me levantaré —dice el Señor(W)—
ahora seré exaltado, ahora seré ensalzado.
11 Concebisteis paja[j], daréis a luz rastrojo(X);
mi[k] aliento como fuego os consumirá(Y).
12 Y los pueblos serán calcinados,
como espinos cortados que son quemados en el fuego(Z).
13 Oíd, los que estáis lejos, lo que he hecho;
y los que estáis cerca, reconoced mi poder(AA).
14 Aterrados están los pecadores(AB) en Sión,
el temblor(AC) se ha apoderado de los impíos.
¿Quién de nosotros habitará con el fuego consumidor(AD)?
¿Quién de nosotros habitará con las llamas eternas(AE)?
15 Él que anda en justicia y habla con sinceridad(AF),
el que rehúsa la ganancia injusta[l],
y se sacude las manos[m] para que no retengan soborno;
el que se tapa los oídos para no oír de derramamiento de sangre,
y cierra los ojos para no ver el mal(AG);
16 ese morará en las alturas,
en la peña inexpugnable[n] estará su refugio[o](AH);
se le dará su pan,
y tendrá segura su agua(AI).
17 Tus ojos contemplarán al Rey(AJ) en su hermosura,
verán una tierra muy lejana(AK).
18 Tu corazón meditará en el terror(AL), y dirá:
¿Dónde está el que cuenta?
¿Dónde está el que pesa?
¿Dónde está(AM) el que cuenta las torres?
19 No verás más al pueblo feroz,
pueblo de habla incomprensible, que nadie entiende[p],
de lengua tartamuda, que nadie comprende[q](AN).
20 Contempla a Sión(AO), ciudad de nuestras fiestas señaladas;
tus ojos verán a Jerusalén, morada de quietud(AP),
tienda que no será plegada,
cuyas estacas no serán arrancadas nunca,
ni rotas ninguna de sus cuerdas(AQ).
21 Porque allí, el Majestuoso, el Señor, será para nosotros
lugar de ríos(AR) y de anchos canales,
por donde no andará embarcación de remos,
ni nave potente por él pasará.
22 Porque el Señor es nuestro juez(AS),
el Señor es nuestro legislador(AT),
el Señor es nuestro rey(AU);
Él nos salvará(AV).
23 Se han aflojado tus cuerdas;
no pueden sostener firme el mástil
ni entesar la vela.
Entonces será repartida la presa de un abundante botín(AW);
los cojos se llevarán los despojos(AX).
24 Ningún habitante dirá: Estoy enfermo(AY);
al pueblo que allí[r] habita, le será perdonada su iniquidad(AZ).

33 Isaías anunció:
«¡Qué mal te va a ir, Asiria!
¡Tú eres el destructor de mi pueblo!
Cuando acabes de destruirlo,
también tú serás destruido;
cuando acabes de traicionarlo,
también tú serás traicionado».
2 Isaías continuó diciendo:
«Sálvanos, Dios nuestro;
¡ten compasión de nosotros!
Danos fuerzas cada mañana;
¡ayúdanos en momentos difíciles!
3 »Los pueblos huyen
al oír tus amenazas;
las naciones se dispersan
cuando muestras tu poder.
4 Los enemigos de esos pueblos
parecen saltamontes
que se lanzan sobre ellos
y les quitan sus riquezas.
5 »Dios nuestro,
tú eres el Dios soberano
que vive en el cielo.
Has hecho que en Jerusalén
haya honestidad y justicia;
6 nos haces vivir seguros;
tu sabiduría y tus conocimientos
nos han dado la salvación;
¡el obedecerte es nuestro tesoro!
Dios ayuda en el sufrimiento
7 »Nuestros valientes
gritan por las calles;
nuestros mensajeros de paz
lloran amargamente.
8 Los caminos están desiertos,
nadie transita por ellos;
se han roto los pactos,

y no hay respeto por nadie.
9 Todos en el país están tristes;
los bosques del Líbano
se han secado
y han perdido su color.
Todo el valle de Sarón
ha quedado hecho un desierto;
la región de Basán
y el monte Carmelo
han perdido su verdor».
10 Dios dice:
«Ahora mismo voy a actuar
y demostraré mi poder.
11 Todos los planes de Asiria
son pura paja y basura;
pero mi soplo es un fuego
que los quemará por completo.
12 Sus ejércitos arderán
como espinas en el fuego,
y quedarán reducidos a cenizas.
13 Ustedes, los que están lejos,
miren lo que hice;
y ustedes, los que están cerca,
reconozcan mi poder.
14 »En Jerusalén
los pecadores tiemblan,
los malvados se llenan de miedo
y gritan:
“No podremos sobrevivir
al fuego destructor de Dios;
¡ese fuego no se apaga
y no quedaremos con vida!”»
¿Quién se salvará en el juicio de Dios?
15-16 Isaías dijo:
«Sólo vivirá segura
la gente que es honesta
y siempre dice la verdad,
la que no se enriquece
a costa de los demás,
la que no acepta regalos
a cambio de hacer favores,
la que no se presta
a cometer un crimen,
¡la que ni siquiera se fija
en la maldad que otros cometen!
Esa gente tendrá como refugio
una fortaleza hecha de rocas;
siempre tendrá pan,
y jamás le faltará agua».
La gloria futura de Jerusalén
17 Isaías les dijo a los israelitas:
«Ustedes verán a un rey
en todo su esplendor;
verán un país tan grande
que parecerá no tener fronteras.
18 Y cuando se pongan a pensar
en el miedo que sentían, dirán:
“¿Y dónde han quedado
los que nos cobraban los impuestos?
¿Dónde están los contadores
que nos cobraban tanto dinero?”
19 »Ya no volverán a ver
a ese pueblo tan violento,
que hablaba un idioma
tan difícil y enredado
que nadie podía entender.
20 Fíjense en mi templo
y en la ciudad de Jerusalén:
¡allí celebraremos nuestras fiestas!
Será un lugar tan seguro
como una carpa bien plantada,
con estacas bien clavadas
y cuerdas que no se rompen.
21 ¡Allí Dios mostrará su poder!
»Jerusalén tendrá ríos muy anchos,
pero los barcos enemigos
no podrán pasar por allí.
22 Dios es nuestro juez
y nuestro rey.
¡Nuestro Dios nos salvará!
23 »Las naves de Asiria
tienen flojas las cuerdas,
su mástil tambalea
y no sostiene su bandera.
Sus enemigos, y hasta los cojos,
les quitan todas sus riquezas.
24 Pero Dios perdonará los pecados
de los habitantes de Jerusalén.

“Siento que me muero”».

A Prayer for Help
33 Our enemies are doomed! They have robbed and betrayed, although no one has robbed them or betrayed them. But their time to rob and betray will end, and they themselves will become victims of robbery and treachery.
2 Lord, have mercy on us. We have put our hope in you. Protect us day by day and save us in times of trouble. 3 When you fight for us, nations run away from the noise of battle. 4 Their belongings are pounced upon and taken as loot.
5 How great the Lord is! He rules over everything. He will fill Jerusalem with justice and integrity 6 and give stability to the nation. He always protects his people and gives them wisdom and knowledge. Their greatest treasure is their reverence for the Lord.
7 The brave are calling for help. The ambassadors who tried to bring about peace are crying bitterly. 8 The highways are so dangerous that no one travels on them. Treaties are broken and agreements are violated. No one is respected any more. 9 The land lies idle and deserted. The forests of Lebanon have withered, the fertile valley of Sharon is like a desert, and in Bashan and on Mount Carmel the leaves are falling from the trees.
The Lord Warns His Enemies
10 The Lord says to the nations, “Now I will act. I will show how powerful I am. 11 You make worthless plans and everything you do is useless. My spirit is like a fire that will destroy you.[a] 12 You will crumble like rocks burned to make lime, like thorns burned to ashes. 13 Let everyone near and far hear what I have done and acknowledge my power.”
14 The sinful people of Zion are trembling with fright. They say, “God's judgment is like a fire that burns forever. Can any of us survive a fire like that?” 15 You can survive if you say and do what is right. Don't use your power to cheat the poor and don't accept bribes. Don't join with those who plan to commit murder or to do other evil things. 16 Then you will be safe; you will be as secure as if in a strong fortress. You will have food to eat and water to drink.
The Glorious Future
17 Once again you will see a king ruling in splendor over a land that stretches in all directions. 18 Your old fears of foreign tax collectors and spies will be only a memory. 19 You will no longer see any arrogant foreigners who speak a language that you can't understand. 20 Look at Zion, the city where we celebrate our religious festivals. Look at Jerusalem! What a safe place it will be to live in! It will be like a tent that is never moved, whose pegs are never pulled up and whose ropes never break. 21 The Lord will show us his glory. We will live beside broad rivers and streams, but hostile ships will not sail on them.[b] 22-23 All the rigging on those ships is useless; the sails cannot be spread! We will seize all the wealth of enemy armies, and there will be so much that even the lame can get a share. The Lord himself will be our king; he will rule over us and protect us. 24 No one who lives in our land will ever again complain of being sick, and all sins will be forgiven.

33 Woe(A) to you, destroyer,
you who have not been destroyed!
Woe to you, betrayer,
you who have not been betrayed!
When you stop destroying,
you will be destroyed;(B)
when you stop betraying,
you will be betrayed.(C)
2 Lord, be gracious(D) to us;
we long for you.
Be our strength(E) every morning,
our salvation(F) in time of distress.(G)
3 At the uproar of your army,(H) the peoples flee;(I)
when you rise up,(J) the nations scatter.
4 Your plunder,(K) O nations, is harvested(L) as by young locusts;(M)
like a swarm of locusts people pounce on it.
5 The Lord is exalted,(N) for he dwells on high;(O)
he will fill Zion with his justice(P) and righteousness.(Q)
6 He will be the sure foundation for your times,
a rich store of salvation(R) and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear(S) of the Lord is the key to this treasure.[a](T)
7 Look, their brave men(U) cry aloud in the streets;
the envoys(V) of peace weep bitterly.
8 The highways are deserted,
no travelers(W) are on the roads.(X)
The treaty is broken,(Y)
its witnesses[b] are despised,
no one is respected.
9 The land dries up(Z) and wastes away,
Lebanon(AA) is ashamed and withers;(AB)
Sharon(AC) is like the Arabah,
and Bashan(AD) and Carmel(AE) drop their leaves.
10 “Now will I arise,(AF)” says the Lord.
“Now will I be exalted;(AG)
now will I be lifted up.
11 You conceive(AH) chaff,
you give birth(AI) to straw;
your breath is a fire(AJ) that consumes you.
12 The peoples will be burned to ashes;(AK)
like cut thornbushes(AL) they will be set ablaze.(AM)”
13 You who are far away,(AN) hear(AO) what I have done;
you who are near, acknowledge my power!
14 The sinners(AP) in Zion are terrified;
trembling(AQ) grips the godless:
“Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire?(AR)
Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?”
15 Those who walk righteously(AS)
and speak what is right,(AT)
who reject gain from extortion(AU)
and keep their hands from accepting bribes,(AV)
who stop their ears against plots of murder
and shut their eyes(AW) against contemplating evil—
16 they are the ones who will dwell on the heights,(AX)
whose refuge(AY) will be the mountain fortress.(AZ)
Their bread will be supplied,
and water will not fail(BA) them.
17 Your eyes will see the king(BB) in his beauty(BC)
and view a land that stretches afar.(BD)
18 In your thoughts you will ponder the former terror:(BE)
“Where is that chief officer?
Where is the one who took the revenue?
Where is the officer in charge of the towers?(BF)”
19 You will see those arrogant people(BG) no more,
people whose speech is obscure,
whose language is strange and incomprehensible.(BH)
20 Look on Zion,(BI) the city of our festivals;
your eyes will see Jerusalem,
a peaceful abode,(BJ) a tent(BK) that will not be moved;(BL)
its stakes will never be pulled up,
nor any of its ropes broken.
21 There the Lord will be our Mighty(BM) One.
It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams.(BN)
No galley with oars will ride them,
no mighty ship(BO) will sail them.
22 For the Lord is our judge,(BP)
the Lord is our lawgiver,(BQ)
the Lord is our king;(BR)
it is he who will save(BS) us.

2 O Lord, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.
3 At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered.
4 And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them.
5 The Lord is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness.
6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure.
7 Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.
8 The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.
9 The earth mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.
10 Now will I rise, saith the Lord; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself.
11 Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you.
12 And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.
13 Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might.
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?
15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.
17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.
18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
19 Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.
20 Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
21 But there the glorious Lord will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby.
22 For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; he will save us.
23 Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey.
24 And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.
