31 ¡Ay de los que descienden a Egipto por ayuda(A)!
En los caballos buscan apoyo(B),
y confían en los carros porque son muchos,
y en los jinetes porque son muy fuertes,
pero no miran(C) al Santo de Israel(D), ni buscan al Señor.
2 Pero Él también es sabio(E) y traerá el mal(F),
y no se retractará de sus palabras(G);
sino que se levantará contra la casa de los malhechores(H)
y contra la ayuda de los que obran iniquidad(I).
3 Pues los egipcios son hombres, y no Dios(J),
y sus caballos(K) son carne, y no espíritu;
el Señor, pues, extenderá su mano(L),
y el que ayuda tropezará,
y el que recibe ayuda caerá(M);
todos ellos a una perecerán.
4 Porque así me dice el Señor:
Tal como gruñe el león(N) o el leoncillo sobre su presa,
contra el que se reúne una multitud[a] de pastores,
y no se atemoriza de sus voces ni se acobarda por su multitud,
así descenderá el Señor de los ejércitos para combatir(O) sobre el monte Sión y sobre su collado.
5 Como aves que vuelan[b](P), así protegerá el Señor de los ejércitos a Jerusalén;
la protegerá y la librará,
la perdonará y la rescatará(Q).
6 Volved(R) a aquel de quien tan profundamente os habéis apartado[c], oh hijos(S) de Israel. 7 Porque en aquel día cada uno repudiará sus ídolos de plata y sus ídolos de oro(T), que os han hecho vuestras manos pecadoras(U).
8 El asirio caerá por espada(V) no de hombre,
y la espada no humana lo devorará(W);
no escapará(X) de[d] la espada,
y sus jóvenes serán sometidos a trabajos forzados(Y).
9 Su fortaleza[e](Z) a causa del terror pasará,
y sus príncipes se espantarán ante el estandarte(AA)
—declara el Señor, que tiene su fuego(AB) en Sión y su horno en Jerusalén.

Woe to Those Who Rely on Egypt
31 Woe(A) to those who go down to Egypt(B) for help,
who rely on horses,(C)
who trust in the multitude of their chariots(D)
and in the great strength of their horsemen,
but do not look to the Holy One(E) of Israel,
or seek help from the Lord.(F)
2 Yet he too is wise(G) and can bring disaster;(H)
he does not take back his words.(I)
He will rise up against that wicked nation,(J)
against those who help evildoers.
3 But the Egyptians(K) are mere mortals and not God;(L)
their horses(M) are flesh and not spirit.
When the Lord stretches out his hand,(N)
those who help will stumble,
those who are helped(O) will fall;
all will perish together.(P)
4 This is what the Lord says to me:
“As a lion(Q) growls,
a great lion over its prey—
and though a whole band of shepherds(R)
is called together against it,
it is not frightened by their shouts
or disturbed by their clamor(S)—
so the Lord Almighty will come down(T)
to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.
5 Like birds hovering(U) overhead,
the Lord Almighty will shield(V) Jerusalem;
he will shield it and deliver(W) it,
he will ‘pass over’(X) it and will rescue it.”
6 Return,(Y) you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted(Z) against. 7 For in that day(AA) every one of you will reject the idols of silver and gold(AB) your sinful hands have made.(AC)
8 “Assyria(AD) will fall by no human sword;
a sword, not of mortals, will devour(AE) them.
They will flee before the sword
and their young men will be put to forced labor.(AF)
9 Their stronghold(AG) will fall because of terror;
at the sight of the battle standard(AH) their commanders will panic,(AI)”
declares the Lord,
whose fire(AJ) is in Zion,
whose furnace(AK) is in Jerusalem.

31 Guai a quelli che scendono in Egitto in cerca di aiuto e fanno affidamento sui cavalli, confidano nei carri perché sono numerosi, e nei cavalieri perché molto potenti, ma non guardano al Santo d'Israele é non cercano l'Eterno.
2 Eppure anch'egli è saggio e farà venire la calamità; egli non revocherà le sue parole, ma si leverà contro la casa dei malvagi e contro l'aiuto degli operatori d'iniquità.
3 Or gli Egiziani sono uomini e non Dio, i loro cavalli sono carne e non spirito. Quando l'Eterno stenderà la sua mano, il protettore inciamperà e il protetto cadrà, periranno tutti insieme.
4 Poiché cosí mi ha detto l'Eterno: «Come il leone o il leoncello rugge sulla sua preda (quando contro di lui si è riunito un gran numero di pastori e non ha paura delle loro grida né si lascia intimidire dal loro strepito), cosí scenderà l'Eterno degli eserciti a combattere Sul monte Sion e sul suo colle.
5 Come gli uccelli si librano a volo sui loro piccoli cosí l'Eterno degli eserciti proteggerà Gerusalemme; la proteggerà e la libererà, la risparmierà e la farà scampare».
6 Ritornate a colui dal quale vi siete grandemente allontanati, o figli d'Israele!
7 In quel giorno ognuno getterà via i suoi idoli d'argento e i suoi idoli d'oro, che le vostre proprie mani hanno fatto peccando per voi.
8 «Allora l'Assiria cadrà per una spada non d'uomo, e una spada non d'uomo la divorerà; e fuggirà davanti alla spada, e i suoi giovani saranno sottoposti a lavoro forzato.
9 Per la paura passerà oltre la sua roccaforte, e i suoi principi saranno atterriti a motivo della bandiera», dice l'Eterno, che ha il suo fuoco in Sion e la sua fornace in Gerusalemme.

31 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!
2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
4 For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.
5 As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.
6 Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
7 For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.
8 Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.
9 And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign, saith the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
