A cidade de Jerusalém está em ruínas
3 Vejam que o Soberano, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso,
está prestes a tirar de Jerusalém e de Judá
todo o sustento: a comida e a água,
2 os heróis, os guerreiros,
os juízes, os profetas, os adivinhos, os líderes,
3 os oficiais do exército, os altos funcionários,
os conselheiros, os sábios e os encantadores.
4 O SENHOR diz: “Eu vou colocar os jovens como chefes,
e vocês serão governados por crianças.
5 As pessoas atacarão umas às outras,
até atacarão as pessoas que conhecem.
Os jovens não respeitarão os idosos,
e a população desafiará os nobres”.
6 Um homem agarrará
um da sua família e lhe dirá:
“Pelo menos você tem roupa para se cobrir;
torne-se nosso chefe, governe este monte de ruínas”.
7 Mas o outro responderá:
“Não posso ajudá-lo.
Não tenho comida nem roupa na minha casa.
Não me façam chefe do povo”.
8 Jerusalém está em ruínas,
Judá caiu e está sofrendo,
porque ofendem o SENHOR com o que dizem e com o que fazem.
Eles revoltam-se contra a glória de Deus.
9 O seu próprio rosto mostra que são culpados,
nem sequer escondem o mal que fazem.
Pecam como o povo de Sodoma
e se orgulham disso.
Coitados! Causam a sua própria desgraça.
Um ensinamento dos sábios
10 Felizes os justos!
Tudo lhes correrá bem.
Eles serão recompensados
pelo que fizeram.
11 Mas, ai dos maus!
Tudo lhes correrá mal.
O que fizeram aos outros
será feito com eles.
Os líderes falharam
12 O meu povo é oprimido por crianças
e governado por mulheres.
Ó meu povo, os seus chefes enganam você
e o levam por caminhos errados.
Deus decide o que irá fazer com o seu povo
13 O SENHOR toma o seu lugar no tribunal,
ele se levanta para julgar o seu povo.
14 O SENHOR está pronto para fazer esta acusação
contra os líderes e os chefes do seu povo:
“Vocês devoraram a minha vinha,
as suas casas estão cheias das coisas que roubaram dos pobres!
15 Maltrataram o meu povo
e esmagaram os pobres!”
Isto foi dito pelo Soberano, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso.
Contra as mulheres de Jerusalém
16 O SENHOR diz: “As filhas de Sião tornaram-se muito arrogantes.
Andam de cabeça erguida,
olham com desprezo,
caminham com passos curtos,
e fazem ouvir o som dos braceletes nos seus pés.
17 Por isso o SENHOR cobrirá de feridas as cabeças das filhas de Sião,
o SENHOR tirará todo o cabelo delas”.
18 Naquele dia, o SENHOR arrancará das mulheres todos os seus enfeites: os anéis que elas usam nos tornozelos, os colares em forma de sol e de lua, 19 os brincos, as pulseiras e os véus; 20 os lenços da cabeça, as correntes dos tornozelos, os cintos, os frascos de perfume e os amuletos; 21 os anéis para os dedos e o nariz, 22 as roupas elegantes, as capas, os xales e as bolsas; 23 os espelhos, as roupas de linho, os turbantes e as mantilhas.
24 Em vez de andarem perfumadas, elas cheirarão mal;
em vez de cintos belos, elas usarão cordas;
em vez de exibirem um penteado elegante, elas terão a cabeça raspada;
em vez de vestido de luxo, elas usarão roupa de luto;
em vez de mostrarem beleza, elas ficarão cheias de feridas.
25 Os homens de Jerusalém cairão na guerra,
os seus guerreiros morrerão na batalha.
26 Haverá choro e tristeza na cidade,
ela será como uma mulher abandonada,
como uma mulher que fica sentada no chão.

3 Porque eis que o Senhor Deus dos Exércitos tirará de Jerusalém e de Judá o bordão e o cajado, todo o sustento de pão e toda a sede de água; 2 o valente, e o soldado, e o juiz, e o profeta, e o adivinho, e o ancião; 3 o capitão de cinquenta, e o respeitável, e o conselheiro, e o sábio entre os artífices, e o eloquente; 4 e dar-lhes-ei jovens por príncipes, e crianças governarão sobre eles. 5 E o povo será oprimido; um será contra o outro, e cada um, contra o seu próximo; o menino se atreverá contra o ancião, e o vil, contra o nobre. 6 Quando algum for ter com seu irmão à casa de seu pai, dizendo: Tu tens roupa, sê nosso príncipe e toma sob a tua mão esta ruína; 7 naquele dia, levantará este a voz dizendo: Não posso ser médico, nem tampouco há em minha casa pão ou veste alguma; não me ponhais por príncipe do povo.
8 Porque Jerusalém tropeçou, e Judá caiu, porquanto a sua língua e as suas obras são contra o Senhor, para irritarem os olhos da sua glória. 9 A aparência do seu rosto testifica contra eles; e publicam os seus pecados como Sodoma; não os dissimulam. Ai da sua alma! Porque se fazem mal a si mesmos. 10 Dizei aos justos que bem lhes irá, porque comerão do fruto das suas obras. 11 Ai do ímpio! Mal lhe irá, porque a recompensa das suas mãos se lhe dará. 12 Os opressores do meu povo são crianças, e mulheres estão à testa do seu governo. Ah! Povo meu! Os que te guiam te enganam e destroem o caminho das tuas veredas. 13 O Senhor se levanta para pleitear e sai a julgar os povos. 14 O Senhor vem em juízo contra os anciãos do seu povo e contra os seus príncipes; é que fostes vós que consumistes esta vinha; o espólio do pobre está em vossas casas. 15 Que tendes vós que afligir o meu povo e moer as faces do pobre? — diz o Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos.
16 Diz ainda mais o Senhor: Porquanto as filhas de Sião se exaltam, e andam de pescoço erguido, e têm olhares impudentes, e, quando andam, como que vão dançando, e cascavelando com os pés, 17 portanto, o Senhor fará tinhosa a cabeça das filhas de Sião e o Senhor porá a descoberto a sua nudez. 18 Naquele dia, tirará o Senhor o enfeite das ligas, e as redezinhas, e as luetas, 19 e os pendentes, e as manilhas, e as vestes resplandecentes; 20 os diademas, e os enfeites dos braços, e as cadeias, e as caixinhas de perfumes e as arrecadas; 21 os anéis e as joias pendentes do nariz; 22 as vestes de festa, e os mantos, e as coifas, e os alfinetes; 23 os espelhos, e as capinhas de linho finíssimas, e as toucas, e os véus. 24 E será que, em lugar de cheiro suave, haverá fedor, e, por cinto, uma corda; e, em lugar de encrespadura de cabelos, calvície, e, em lugar de veste larga, cilício; e queimadura, em lugar de formosura. 25 Teus varões cairão à espada, e teus valentes, na peleja. 26 E as portas da cidade gemerão e se carpirão, e ela se assentará no chão, desolada.

God Will Remove the Leaders of Judah
3 See, the Lord, the Lord God of All, is going to take away from Jerusalem and Judah all they have to keep themselves alive and safe, all the bread and all the water. 2 He will take away the strong man, the man of war, the man who judges, the man who tells what will happen in the future, the man who uses secret ways, and the leader. 3 He will take away the captain of fifty, the man of honor, the wise man, the able workman, and the one who uses secret powers. 4 I will make boys their rulers. Foolish children will rule over them. 5 The people will make it hard for each other. Each one will hurt the other, and each one will be hurt by his neighbor. The younger will show anger toward the older. And the man who is not respected will show anger toward the man of honor.
6 A man will take hold of his brother in his father’s house, saying, “You have a coat. You will be our ruler. This destroyed city will be under your rule.” 7 In that day he will call out, “I can not be of help to you. For in my house there is no bread or coat. You should not choose me to be ruler of the people.” 8 For Jerusalem has no strength, and Judah has fallen, because their speaking and their actions are against the Lord. They have turned against His shining-greatness. 9 The look on their faces speaks against them. They show their sin like Sodom. They do not even hide it. It is bad for them! For they have brought trouble upon themselves. 10 Tell those who are right and good that it will go well for them. For they will enjoy the fruit of what they do. 11 It will be bad for the sinful man! It will not go well for him, for what he has done will be done to him. 12 O My people! Children make it hard for them. And women rule over them. O My people! Your leaders lead you in the wrong way. You do not know which path to take.
The Lord Will Judge His People
13 The Lord is ready to say what He thinks and stands to judge the people. 14 The Lord judges the leaders and rulers of His people: “It is you who have destroyed the grape-field. What had belonged to the poor is in your houses. 15 What do you mean by crushing My people, and grinding the faces of the poor?” says the Lord God of All.
Women of Jerusalem Will Suffer
16 The Lord said, “The daughters of Zion are proud. They walk with heads held high and a wrong desire in their eyes. They walk with short steps, making noise with the chains on their ankles. 17 So the Lord will make sores come upon the heads of the daughters of Zion, and take the hair from their head. 18 In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their ankle chains, headbands, moon-like objects, 19 rings worn on their ears and arms, face-coverings, 20 head-dresses, leg-chains, wide belts, perfume boxes, objects with secret powers, 21 finger rings, nose rings, 22 bright clothing, coats, money-bags, 23 hand mirrors, underclothes, head-coverings, and face-coverings. 24 Instead of sweet perfume there will be a bad smell. Instead of a belt there will be a rope. Instead of well set hair there will be no hair. Instead of fine clothes they will wear cloth made from hair. And there will be burnt marks instead of beauty. 25 Your men will fall by the sword. Your strong ones will fall in battle. 26 Jerusalem’s gates will be filled with sorrow. She will sit on the ground, laid waste and empty.

Judgment on Jerusalem and Judah
3 See now, the Lord,
the Lord Almighty,
is about to take from Jerusalem and Judah
both supply and support:(A)
all supplies of food(B) and all supplies of water,(C)
2 the hero and the warrior,(D)
the judge and the prophet,
the diviner(E) and the elder,(F)
3 the captain of fifty(G) and the man of rank,(H)
the counselor, skilled craftsman(I) and clever enchanter.(J)
4 “I will make mere youths their officials;
children will rule over them.”(K)
5 People will oppress each other—
man against man, neighbor against neighbor.(L)
The young will rise up against the old,
the nobody against the honored.
6 A man will seize one of his brothers
in his father’s house, and say,
“You have a cloak, you be our leader;
take charge of this heap of ruins!”
7 But in that day(M) he will cry out,
“I have no remedy.(N)
I have no food(O) or clothing in my house;
do not make me the leader of the people.”(P)
8 Jerusalem staggers,
Judah is falling;(Q)
their words(R) and deeds(S) are against the Lord,
defying(T) his glorious presence.
9 The look on their faces testifies(U) against them;
they parade their sin like Sodom;(V)
they do not hide it.
Woe to them!
They have brought disaster(W) upon themselves.
10 Tell the righteous it will be well(X) with them,
for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.(Y)
11 Woe to the wicked!(Z)
Disaster(AA) is upon them!
They will be paid back(AB)
for what their hands have done.(AC)
12 Youths(AD) oppress my people,
women rule over them.
My people, your guides lead you astray;(AE)
they turn you from the path.
13 The Lord takes his place in court;(AF)
he rises to judge(AG) the people.
14 The Lord enters into judgment(AH)
against the elders and leaders of his people:
“It is you who have ruined my vineyard;
the plunder(AI) from the poor(AJ) is in your houses.
15 What do you mean by crushing my people(AK)
and grinding(AL) the faces of the poor?”(AM)
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.(AN)
16 The Lord says,
“The women of Zion(AO) are haughty,
walking along with outstretched necks,(AP)
flirting with their eyes,
strutting along with swaying hips,
with ornaments jingling on their ankles.
17 Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion;
the Lord will make their scalps bald.(AQ)”
18 In that day(AR) the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces,(AS) 19 the earrings and bracelets(AT) and veils,(AU) 20 the headdresses(AV) and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, 21 the signet rings and nose rings,(AW) 22 the fine robes and the capes and cloaks,(AX) the purses 23 and mirrors, and the linen garments(AY) and tiaras(AZ) and shawls.
24 Instead of fragrance(BA) there will be a stench;(BB)
instead of a sash,(BC) a rope;
instead of well-dressed hair, baldness;(BD)
instead of fine clothing, sackcloth;(BE)
instead of beauty,(BF) branding.(BG)
25 Your men will fall by the sword,(BH)
your warriors in battle.(BI)
26 The gates(BJ) of Zion will lament and mourn;(BK)
destitute,(BL) she will sit on the ground.(BM)
