¿Qué harán cuando Dios
les mande el castigo que merecen?
¿A quién le pedirán ayuda?
¿Dónde esconderán sus riquezas?
4 »Porque ustedes serán humillados,
llevados presos y asesinados.
A pesar de todo esto,
el enojo de Dios no se calmará;
nos seguirá amenazando todavía.
Dios enviará a los asirios
5 »Dios dice:
“Estoy muy enojado;
por eso usaré al rey de Asiria
para castigar a los que me ofenden.

3 En wat zult u doen als Ik vanuit een ver land de verwoesting op u afstuur? Tot wie zult u zich wenden om hulp? Waar zullen uw schatten veilig zijn? 4 Ik zal u niet helpen, u zult voortstrompelen als gevangenen en tussen de verslagenen op de grond liggen. En zelfs dan is mijn toorn nog niet bekoeld en blijft mijn hand dreigend opgeheven. 5 Assur is de zweep van mijn toorn, zijn militaire kracht is mijn wapen tegen dit goddeloze en vervloekte volk.

3 What will you do on the day of reckoning,(A)
when disaster(B) comes from afar?
To whom will you run for help?(C)
Where will you leave your riches?
4 Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives(D)
or fall among the slain.(E)
Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,(F)
his hand is still upraised.

3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?
4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
