He seeks for himself a skillful workman
(B)To prepare a carved image that will not totter.

18 “What profit is the image, that its maker should carve it,
The molded image, a teacher of lies,
That the maker of its mold should trust in it,
To make mute idols?
19 Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Awake!’
To silent stone, ‘Arise! It shall teach!’
Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver,
Yet in it there is no breath at all.

Let all the earth keep silence before Him.”

Or an image(C) that teaches lies?
For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation;
he makes idols that cannot speak.(D)
19 Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’
Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’(E)
Can it give guidance?

there is no breath in it.”(G)
Hosea 8:4-6
New King James Version
4 “They(A) set up kings, but not by Me;
They made princes, but I did not acknowledge them.
From their silver and gold
They made idols for themselves—
That they might be cut off.
5 Your [a]calf [b]is rejected, O Samaria!
My anger is aroused against them—
(B)How long until they attain to innocence?
6 For from Israel is even this:
A (C)workman made it, and it is not God;
But the calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.
Hosea 8:4-6

4 They set up kings without my consent;
they choose princes without my approval.(A)
With their silver and gold
they make idols(B) for themselves

My anger burns against them.
How long will they be incapable of purity?(D)
6 They are from Israel!
This calf—a metalworker has made it;
it is not God.(E)
It will be broken in pieces,

Daniel 3:5-15
New King James Version
5 that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; 6 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall (A)be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.”
7 So at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, and lyre, in symphony with all kinds of music, all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Daniel’s Friends Disobey the King
8 Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans (B)came forward and accused the Jews. 9 They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, (C)“O king, live forever! 10 You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; 11 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12 (D)There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have (E)not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.”
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar, in (F)rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? 15 Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, (G)good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. (H)And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?”

5 As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp,(A) pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image(B) of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.(C) 6 Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”(D)
7 Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music, all the nations and peoples of every language fell down and worshiped the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.(E)
8 At this time some astrologers[a](F) came forward and denounced the Jews. 9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “May the king live forever!(G) 10 Your Majesty has issued a decree(H) that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the image of gold,(I) 11 and that whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a blazing furnace. 12 But there are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego(J)—who pay no attention(K) to you, Your Majesty. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up.”(L)
13 Furious(M) with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods(N) or worship the image(O) of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god(P) will be able to rescue(Q) you from my hand?”

Isaiah 44:12-19
New King James Version
12 (A)The blacksmith with the tongs works one in the coals,
Fashions it with hammers,
And works it with the strength of his arms.
Even so, he is hungry, and his strength fails;
He drinks no water and is faint.
13 The craftsman stretches out his rule,
He marks one out with chalk;
He fashions it with a plane,
He marks it out with the compass,
And makes it like the figure of a man,
According to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in the house.
14 He cuts down cedars for himself,
And takes the cypress and the oak;
He [a]secures it for himself among the trees of the forest.
He plants a pine, and the rain nourishes it.
15 Then it shall be for a man to burn,
For he will take some of it and warm himself;
Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread;
Indeed he makes a god and worships it;
He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.
16 He burns half of it in the fire;
With this half he eats meat;
He roasts a roast, and is satisfied.
He even warms himself and says,
“Ah! I am warm,
I have seen the fire.”
17 And the rest of it he makes into a god,
His carved image.
He falls down before it and worships it,
Prays to it and says,
“Deliver me, for you are my god!”
18 (B)They do not know nor understand;
For (C)He has [b]shut their eyes, so that they cannot see,
And their hearts, so that they cannot (D)understand.
19 And no one (E)considers in his heart,
Nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say,
“I have burned half of it in the fire,
Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals;
I have roasted meat and eaten it;
And shall I make the rest of it an abomination?
Shall I fall down before a block of wood?”

over it he prepares his meal,
he roasts his meat and eats his fill.
He also warms himself and says,
“Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.(K)”
17 From the rest he makes a god, his idol;
he bows down to it and worships.(L)
