when its maker has shaped it,

For its maker trusts in his own creation

They set up princes, but I knew it not.
With their silver and gold they made idols
for their own destruction.
5 (C)I have[a] spurned your calf, O Samaria.
My anger burns against them.
(D)How long will they be incapable of innocence?
6 For it is from Israel;
a craftsman made it;
it is not God.

Daniel 3:5-15

5 that when you hear the (A)sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you (B)are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. 6 And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately (C)be cast into a burning fiery furnace.” 7 Therefore, as soon as all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, all (D)the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
The Fiery Furnace
8 Therefore at that time certain (E)Chaldeans (F)came forward and maliciously accused the Jews. 9 They declared[a] to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! 10 You, O king, (G)have made a decree, that every man who (H)hears the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, (I)shall fall down and worship the golden image. 11 And whoever does not fall down and worship (J)shall be cast into a burning fiery furnace. 12 There are certain Jews whom you have (K)appointed over the affairs of (L)the province of Babylon: (M)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, (N)pay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar (O)in furious rage commanded that (P)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up? 15 Now if you are ready when (Q)you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good.[b] But if you do not worship, (R)you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And (S)who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”

5 As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp,(A) pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image(B) of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.(C) 6 Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”(D)
7 Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music, all the nations and peoples of every language fell down and worshiped the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.(E)
8 At this time some astrologers[a](F) came forward and denounced the Jews. 9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “May the king live forever!(G) 10 Your Majesty has issued a decree(H) that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the image of gold,(I) 11 and that whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a blazing furnace. 12 But there are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego(J)—who pay no attention(K) to you, Your Majesty. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up.”(L)
13 Furious(M) with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods(N) or worship the image(O) of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god(P) will be able to rescue(Q) you from my hand?”

English Standard Version
12 (A)The ironsmith takes a cutting tool and works it over the coals. He fashions it with hammers and works it with his strong arm. He becomes hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water and is faint. 13 The carpenter stretches a line; he marks it out with a pencil.[a] He shapes it with planes and marks it with a compass. (B)He shapes it into the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house. 14 (C)He cuts down cedars, or he chooses a cypress tree or an oak and lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a cedar and the rain nourishes it. 15 Then it becomes fuel for a man. He takes a part of it and warms himself; he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Also he makes a god and worships it; he makes it an idol and falls down before it. 16 Half of it he burns in the fire. Over the half he eats meat; he roasts it and is satisfied. Also he warms himself and says, “Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire!” 17 And the rest of it he makes into a god, his idol, and falls down to it and worships it. (D)He prays to it and says, “Deliver me, for you are my god!”
18 They know not, nor do they discern, for he has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand. 19 No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked bread on its coals; I roasted meat and have eaten. And shall I make the rest of it an (E)abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?”
