Isaiah 9:16-17

¹⁶^(A)For those who guide this people are leading them astray;
And those who are guided by them are ^[a]confused.
¹⁷Therefore the Lord does ^(B)not rejoice over their young men,
^(C)Nor does He have compassion on their ^[b]orphans or their widows;
For every one of them is ^(D)godless and an ^(E)evildoer,
And every ^(F)mouth is speaking foolishness.
^(G)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away,
And His hand is still stretched out.

¹⁰Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, ¹¹“Ask for a ^(D)sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ^[c]make it deep as Sheol or high as ^[d]heaven.” ¹²But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I put the Lord to the test!” ¹³Then he said, “Listen now, ^(E)house of David! Is it too trivial a thing for you to ^[e]try the patience of men, that you will ^[f]^(F)try the patience of ^(G)my God as well? ¹⁴Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, ^(H)the ^[g]virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will name Him ^[h]^(I)Immanuel.
