Righteous Reign of the Branch

11 Then a (A)shoot will spring from the (B)stem of Jesse,
And a (C)Branch from (D)his roots will bear fruit.
The (E)Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of (F)wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and (G)strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,
And He will not judge by what His eyes (H)see,
Nor make decisions by what His ears hear;
But with (I)righteousness He will judge the (J)poor,
And decide with fairness for the (K)humble of the earth;
And He will strike the earth with the (L)rod of His mouth,
And with the (M)breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.
Also (N)righteousness will be the belt around His hips,
And (O)faithfulness the belt around His waist.

And the (P)wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion [a]and the fattened steer will be together;
And a little boy will lead them.
Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the (Q)lion will eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.
They will (R)not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the (S)earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.

10 Then on that day
The (T)nations will resort to the (U)root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a (V)signal flag for the peoples;
And His (W)resting place will be [b]glorious.

16 (A)For those who guide this people are leading them astray;
And those who are guided by them are [a]confused.
17 Therefore the Lord does (B)not rejoice over their young men,
(C)Nor does He have compassion on their [b]orphans or their widows;
For every one of them is (D)godless and an (E)evildoer,
And every (F)mouth is speaking foolishness.
(G)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away,
And His hand is still stretched out.

this is what the Lord [a]God says: “(A)It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass. For the head of Aram is (B)Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin (now within another sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces, so that it is no longer a people), and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. (C)If you will not believe, you certainly shall not [b]last.”’”

The Child Immanuel

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 “Ask for a (D)sign for yourself from the Lord your God; [c]make it deep as Sheol or high as [d]heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I put the Lord to the test!” 13 Then he said, “Listen now, (E)house of David! Is it too trivial a thing for you to [e]try the patience of men, that you will [f](F)try the patience of (G)my God as well? 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, (H)the [g]virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will name Him [h](I)Immanuel.
