3 El avea şapte mii de oi, trei mii de cămile, cinci sute de perechi de boi, cinci sute de măgari şi un număr mare de slujitori. Era cel mai însemnat om dintre toţi locuitorii Răsăritului. 4 Fiii lui obişnuiau să meargă şi să ţină, pe rând, câte un ospăţ în casa fiecăruia în parte; ei le chemau şi pe cele trei surori ale lor ca să mănânce şi să bea împreună cu ei. 5 Când se termina câte un şir de ospeţe, Iov îi chema şi îi sfinţea. El se trezea dimineaţa devreme şi aducea arderi-de-tot pentru fiecare dintre ei, zicând: „Poate fiii mei au păcătuit şi l-au blestemat pe Dumnezeu în inimile lor.“ Aşa obişnuia Iov să facă.

Şi omul acesta era cel mai cu vază dintre toţi locuitorii Răsăritului. 4 Fiii săi se duceau unii la alţii şi dădeau, rând pe rând, câte un ospăţ. Şi pofteau şi pe cele trei surori ale lor să mănânce şi să bea împreună cu ei. 5 Şi, după ce treceau zilele de ospăţ, Iov chema şi sfinţea pe fiii săi: se scula dis-de-dimineaţă şi aducea pentru fiecare din ei câte o ardere-de-tot(A). Căci zicea Iov: „Poate că fiii mei au păcătuit şi au supărat(B) pe Dumnezeu în inima lor.” Aşa avea Iov obicei să facă.

3 and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys,(A) and had a large number of servants.(B) He was the greatest man(C) among all the people of the East.(D)
4 His sons used to hold feasts(E) in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified.(F) Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering(G) for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned(H) and cursed God(I) in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.
