2 Sunaţi din trâmbiţă în Sion!
Daţi alarma pe muntele Meu cel sfânt!
Să tremure locuitorii ţării,
căci vine ziua Domnului!
Este aproape
2 acea zi a întunericului şi a negurii,
acea zi cu nori şi cu întuneric adânc!
Ca zorii care se aştern peste munţi,
aşa vine o oştire mare şi puternică,
cum n-a mai fost vreodată din vechime
şi nici nu va mai fi
în veacurile care vin.
3 Focul mistuie înaintea lor,
iar după ei arde flacăra.
Înaintea lor ţara este ca grădina Eden,
dar după ei rămâne un deşert sterp;
nimic nu le scapă.
4 La înfăţişare sunt precum caii
şi aleargă ca nişte armăsari de luptă[a].
5 Vin huruind ca nişte care
şi sar peste vârfurile munţilor;
pocnesc ca o flacără de foc
ce mistuie pleava.
Ei sunt ca o oştire puternică,
gata de luptă.
6 Înaintea lor tremură popoarele;
toate feţele pălesc[b].
7 Aleargă ca nişte viteji,
se urcă pe ziduri ca nişte războinici.
Fiecare îşi ţine drumul lui
şi nu se abate de pe calea lui.
8 Nu se înghiontesc unii pe alţii;
fiecare mărşăluieşte înainte.
Se năpustesc printre săgeţi[c],
fără a rupe rândurile.
9 Năvălesc în cetate,
aleargă pe ziduri,
se urcă pe case
şi intră prin ferestre ca hoţul.
10 Pământul se cutremură înaintea lor,
cerurile se zguduie,
soarele şi luna se întunecă,
iar stelele îşi pierd strălucirea.
11 Domnul Îşi face auzit glasul
în fruntea oştirii Sale.
Într-adevăr, numeroasă este tabăra Sa
şi puternici sunt cei ce împlinesc Cuvântul Său!
Da, mare este ziua Domnului
şi înfricoşătoare! Cine o poate îndura?
Chemare la pocăinţă
12 Totuşi, chiar acum, zice Domnul,
întoarceţi-vă la Mine cu toată inima,
cu post, cu plânset şi cu jale.
13 Sfâşiaţi-vă inimile,
nu hainele!
Întoarceţi-vă la Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru,
căci El este îndurător şi milostiv,
încet la mânie şi plin de dragoste,
şi-I pare rău când trimite nenorocirea.
14 Cine ştie? Poate se va întoarce cu părere de rău
şi va lăsa după El o binecuvântare,
un dar de mâncare şi o jertfă de băutură
pentru Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru.
15 Sunaţi din trâmbiţă în Sion,
hotărâţi un post,
vestiţi o adunare sfântă!
16 Strângeţi poporul,
sfinţiţi adunarea!
Adunaţi bătrânii,
strângeţi copiii,
chiar şi pe cei ce sunt alăptaţi!
Să iasă mirele din camera sa,
şi mireasa din odaia ei.
17 Să plângă preoţii, slujitorii Domnului,
să plângă între portic şi altar
şi să zică: «Ai milă de poporul Tău, Doamne,
şi nu-Ţi face moştenirea de ruşine
sau de pomină între neamuri!
De ce să se zică printre popoare:
‘Unde este Dumnezeul lor?’»
Răspunsul Domnului la pocăinţa poporului
18 Atunci Domnul va fi gelos pentru ţara Sa
şi Îşi va cruţa poporul.
19 Domnul va răspunde poporului Său şi îi va zice:[d]
«Iată, vă trimit grâne, must şi ulei,
ca să vă săturaţi cu ele;
şi nu vă voi mai face
de batjocură între neamuri.
20 Voi îndepărta de la voi oştirea din nord,
o voi duce într-o ţară uscată şi pustie;
avangarda ei o voi alunga spre Marea de Răsărit[e],
iar ariergarda ei – spre Marea de Apus[f].
Duhoarea ei se va înălţa
şi mirosul ei greu se va ridica.
Într-adevăr, El a făcut lucruri mari![g]
21 Nu te teme, pământule,
ci bucură-te şi veseleşte-te!
Într-adevăr, Domnul a făcut lucruri mari!
22 Nu vă temeţi, animale ale câmpului,
căci păşunile pustiei au înverzit.
Pomii îşi dau rodul,
iar smochinul şi via îşi dau belşugul.
23 Bucuraţi-vă, copii ai Sionului,
veseliţi-vă în Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru,
căci El, în dreptatea Lui,
v-a dat ploaie timpurie[h],
El v-a turnat ploaie din belşug,
ploaie timpurie şi târzie[i], ca odinioară.
24 Ariile de treierat vor fi pline de grâne,
iar linurile se vor revărsa de must şi de ulei.
25 Vă voi răsplăti astfel pentru anii
pe care i-au mâncat lăcustele Arbe,
Ielek, Hasil şi Gazam,[j]
oştirea Mea cea mare pe care am trimis-o împotriva voastră.
26 Veţi mânca din belşug şi vă veţi sătura,
şi veţi lăuda Numele Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru,
Care a făcut minuni pentru voi.
Poporul Meu nu va mai fi niciodată făcut de ruşine.
27 Veţi şti astfel că Eu sunt în mijlocul lui Israel
şi că Eu sunt Domnul Dumnezeul vostru
şi nu este altul.
Poporul Meu nu va mai fi făcut niciodată de ruşine.
Ziua Domnului
28 După aceea,
voi turna Duhul Meu peste orice făptură.
Fiii şi fiicele voastre vor profeţi,
bătrânii voştri vor visa visuri,
iar tinerii voştri vor avea viziuni!
29 Chiar şi peste slujitori şi slujitoare
voi turna din Duhul Meu în acele zile.
30 Voi face semne în cer
şi pe pământ,
sânge, foc şi coloane de fum.
31 Soarele se va preface în întuneric,
iar luna în sânge,
înainte să vină ziua cea mare şi înspăimântătoare a Domnului.»
32 Atunci oricine va chema Numele Domnului
va fi mântuit!
Căci pe muntele Sion şi în Ierusalim
va fi mântuirea,
aşa cum a zis Domnul,
şi printre supravieţuitorii
pe care îi cheamă Domnul[k].

Îndemn la pocăinţă
2 „Sunaţi(A) din trâmbiţă în Sion! Sunaţi(B) în gura mare pe muntele Meu cel sfânt, ca să tremure toţi locuitorii ţării. Căci vine ziua Domnului(C), este aproape!” 2 O zi de întuneric(D) şi negură mare, o zi de nori şi de întunecime. Ca zorile dimineţii se întinde peste munţi un popor mare(E) şi puternic, cum(F) n-a mai fost din veac şi nici în vremurile viitoare nu va mai fi. 3 Arde focul(G) înaintea lui şi pâlpâie flacăra după el. Înaintea lui, ţara era ca o grădină a Edenului(H) şi după el(I) este un pustiu sterp; nimic nu-i scapă. 4 Parcă(J) sunt nişte cai şi aleargă ca nişte călăreţi. 5 Vin uruind(K) ca nişte care pe munţi şi pârâie ca o flacără de foc când mistuie miriştea; par o puternică oştire(L), gata de luptă. 6 Tremură popoarele înaintea lor şi toate feţele îngălbenesc(M). 7 Aleargă ca nişte războinici, se suie pe ziduri ca nişte războinici, fiecare îşi vede de drumul lui şi nu se abate din cărarea lui. 8 Nu se împing unii pe alţii, fiecare ţine şirul, se năpustesc prin săgeţi şi nu se opresc din mers. 9 Se răspândesc în cetate, aleargă pe ziduri, se suie pe case şi intră(N) pe ferestre ca un hoţ(O). 10 Înaintea lor se cutremură pământul(P), se zguduie cerurile, soarele(Q) şi luna se întunecă şi stelele îşi pierd lumina. 11 Domnul(R) face să tune glasul Lui înaintea oştirii Sale(S), căci tabăra Lui este foarte mare şi cel ce împlineşte cuvântul este puternic(T). Cine(V) o poate suferi? 12 „Dar chiar acum, zice Domnul, întoarceţi-vă(W) la Mine cu toată inima, cu post, cu plânset şi bocet!” 13 Sfâşiaţi-vă inimile(X), nu hainele(Y), şi întoarceţi-vă la Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru. Căci El este milostiv(Z) şi plin de îndurare, îndelung răbdător şi bogat în bunătate şi-I pare rău de relele pe care le trimite. 14 Cine ştie(AA) dacă nu Se va întoarce şi nu Se va căi? Cine ştie dacă nu va lăsa după El o binecuvântare(AB), daruri de mâncare(AC) şi jertfe de băutură pentru Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru? 15 Sunaţi(AD) cu trâmbiţa în Sion! Vestiţi(AE) un post, chemaţi o adunare de sărbătoare! 16 Strângeţi poporul, ţineţi o adunare sfântă(AF)! Aduceţi(AG) pe bătrâni, strângeţi(AH) copiii şi chiar pruncii de la ţâţă! Să iasă(AI) mirele din cămara lui şi mireasa din odaia ei! 17 Preoţii, slujitorii Domnului, să plângă între tindă(AJ) şi altar şi să zică: „Doamne, îndură-Te(AK) de poporul Tău! Nu da de ocară moştenirea Ta, n-o face de batjocura popoarelor! Pentru ce(AL) să se zică printre neamuri: ‘Unde este Dumnezeul lor?’ ”
Făgăduinţe
18 Domnul a fost plin de râvnă(AM) pentru ţara Lui şi S-a îndurat(AN) de poporul Său. 19 Domnul a răspuns şi a zis poporului Său: „Iată, vă trimit(AO) grâu, must şi untdelemn proaspăt, ca să vă săturaţi de ele, şi nu vă voi mai face de ocară între neamuri. 20 Voi(AP) depărta de la voi pe vrăjmaşul de la miazănoapte(AQ), îl voi izgoni spre un pământ fără apă şi pustiu, îi voi împinge partea dinainte a oştirii lui în(AR) marea de răsărit şi coada oştirii în marea de apus(AS), iar duhoarea lui se va ridica în sus şi mirosul lui de putregai se va înălţa în văzduh, căci s-a crezut grozav. 21 Nu te teme, pământule, ci bucură-te şi veseleşte-te, căci Domnul face lucruri mari! 22 Nu vă temeţi, fiare de pe câmp(AT), căci izlazurile(AU) pustiei iarăşi vor înverzi, pomii îşi vor da roadele, smochinul şi viţa îşi vor da rodul lor. 23 Şi voi, copii ai Sionului, bucuraţi-vă şi veseliţi-vă(AV) în Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, căci El vă va da(AW) ploaie la vreme(AX), vă va trimite ploaie timpurie şi târzie, ca odinioară. 24 Ariile se vor umple de grâu, vor geme tocitoarele şi teascurile de must şi de untdelemn, 25 vă voi răsplăti astfel anii pe care(AY) i-au mâncat lăcustele Arbeh, Ielec, Hasil şi Gazam, oştirea Mea cea mare pe care am trimis-o împotriva voastră. 26 Veţi mânca(AZ) şi vă veţi sătura, şi veţi lăuda Numele Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru, care va face minuni cu voi şi poporul Meu niciodată nu va mai fi de ocară! 27 Şi veţi şti(BA) că Eu sunt în mijlocul(BB) lui Israel, că Eu sunt(BC) Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, şi nu este altul afară de Mine. Şi poporul Meu niciodată nu va mai fi de ocară. 28 După aceea(BD), voi turna(BE) Duhul Meu peste orice făptură; fiii(BF) şi fiicele(BG) voastre vor proroci, bătrânii voştri vor visa visuri şi tinerii voştri vor avea vedenii. 29 Chiar şi peste robi şi peste roabe(BH) voi turna Duhul Meu în zilele acelea. 30 Voi face să se vadă semne(BI) în ceruri şi pe pământ: sânge, foc şi stâlpi de fum; 31 soarele(BJ) se va preface în întuneric şi luna, în sânge înainte(BK) de a veni ziua Domnului, ziua aceea mare şi înfricoşată. 32 Atunci, oricine(BL) va chema Numele Domnului va fi mântuit. Căci mântuirea va fi pe Muntele Sionului(BM) şi la Ierusalim, cum a făgăduit Domnul, şi între cei rămaşi(BN) pe care-i va chema Domnul.

2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
6 Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.
7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
8 Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

17 Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
18 Then will the Lord be jealous for his land, and pity his people.
19 Yea, the Lord will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:
20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.

14 Who knoweth but he will return, and forgive, and leave a blessing behind him, sacrifice and libation to the Lord your God?
15 Blow the trumpet in Sion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly,
16 Gather together the people, sanctify the church, assemble the ancients, gather together the little ones, and them that suck at the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth from his bed, and the bride out of her bride chamber.
17 Between the porch and the altar the priests the Lord's ministers shall weep, and shall say: Spare, O Lord, spare thy people: and give not thy inheritance to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them. Why should they say among the nations: Where is their God?
18 The Lord hath been zealous for his land, and hath spared his people.
19 And the Lord answered and said to his people: Behold I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and you shall be filled with them: and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
20 And I will remove far off from you the northern enemy: and I will drive him into a land unpassable, and desert, with his face towards the east sea, and his hinder part towards the utmost sea: and his stench shall ascend, and his rottenness shall go up, because he hath done proudly.
21 Fear not, O land, be glad and rejoice: for the Lord hath done great things.
22 Fear not, ye beasts of the fields: for the beautiful places of the wilderness are sprung, for the tree hath brought forth its fruit, the fig tree, and the vine have yielded their strength.
23 And you, O children of Sion, rejoice, and be joyful in the Lord your God: because he hath given you a teacher of justice, and he will make the early and the latter rain to come down to you as in the beginning.

Let all who live in the land tremble,
for the day of the Lord(D) is coming.
It is close at hand(E)—
2 a day of darkness(F) and gloom,(G)
a day of clouds(H) and blackness.(I)
Like dawn spreading across the mountains
a large and mighty army(J) comes,
such as never was in ancient times(K)
nor ever will be in ages to come.
3 Before them fire(L) devours,
behind them a flame blazes.
Before them the land is like the garden of Eden,(M)
behind them, a desert waste(N)—
nothing escapes them.
4 They have the appearance of horses;(O)
they gallop along like cavalry.
5 With a noise like that of chariots(P)
they leap over the mountaintops,
like a crackling fire(Q) consuming stubble,
like a mighty army drawn up for battle.
6 At the sight of them, nations are in anguish;(R)

bring together the elders,(AY)
gather the children,
those nursing at the breast.
Let the bridegroom(AZ) leave his room
and the bride her chamber.
17 Let the priests, who minister(BA) before the Lord,
weep(BB) between the portico and the altar.(BC)
Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord.
Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,(BD)
a byword(BE) among the nations.
Why should they say among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?(BF)’”
The Lord’s Answer
19 The Lord replied[a] to them:
“I am sending you grain, new wine(BI) and olive oil,(BJ)
enough to satisfy you fully;(BK)
never again will I make you
an object of scorn(BL) to the nations.
20 “I will drive the northern horde(BM) far from you,
pushing it into a parched and barren land;
its eastern ranks will drown in the Dead Sea
and its western ranks in the Mediterranean Sea.
And its stench(BN) will go up;
its smell will rise.”
Surely he has done great things!
21 Do not be afraid,(BO) land of Judah;
be glad and rejoice.(BP)
Surely the Lord has done great things!(BQ)
22 Do not be afraid, you wild animals,
for the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green.(BR)
The trees are bearing their fruit;
the fig tree(BS) and the vine(BT) yield their riches.(BU)
23 Be glad, people of Zion,
rejoice(BV) in the Lord your God,
for he has given you the autumn rains
because he is faithful.(BW)
He sends you abundant showers,(BX)
both autumn(BY) and spring rains,(BZ) as before.
24 The threshing floors will be filled with grain;
the vats will overflow(CA) with new wine(CB) and oil.
25 “I will repay you for the years the locusts(CC) have eaten(CD)—
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm[b]—
my great army(CE) that I sent among you.
26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,(CF)
and you will praise(CG) the name of the Lord your God,
who has worked wonders(CH) for you;
never again will my people be shamed.(CI)
27 Then you will know(CJ) that I am in Israel,
that I am the Lord(CK) your God,
and that there is no other;
never again will my people be shamed.(CL)
The Day of the Lord
28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit(CM) on all people.(CN)
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,(CO)
your old men will dream dreams,(CP)
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants,(CQ) both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.(CR)
30 I will show wonders in the heavens(CS)
and on the earth,(CT)
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned to darkness(CU)
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.(CV)
32 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord(CW) will be saved;(CX)
for on Mount Zion(CY) and in Jerusalem
there will be deliverance,(CZ)
as the Lord has said,
even among the survivors(DA)
whom the Lord calls.[c](DB)
