5 Ascultaţi acum(A) voi, bogaţilor! Plângeţi şi tânguiţi-vă din pricina nenorocirilor care au să vină peste voi. 2 Bogăţiile voastre au putrezit şi hainele voastre sunt roase de molii. 3 Aurul şi argintul vostru au ruginit; şi rugina lor va fi o dovadă împotriva voastră: ca focul are să vă mănânce carnea! V-aţi(B) strâns comori în zilele din urmă! 4 Iată că plata(C) lucrătorilor care v-au secerat câmpiile şi pe care le-aţi oprit-o prin înşelăciune strigă! Şi strigătele(D) secerătorilor au ajuns la urechile Domnului oştirilor. 5 Aţi(E) trăit pe pământ în plăceri şi în desfătări. V-aţi săturat inimile chiar într-o zi de măcel. 6 Aţi(F) osândit, aţi omorât pe cel neprihănit care nu vi se împotrivea! 7 Fiţi dar îndelung răbdători, fraţilor, până la venirea Domnului. Iată că plugarul aşteaptă roada scumpă a pământului, şi o aşteaptă cu răbdare până primeşte ploaie(G) timpurie şi târzie. 8 Fiţi şi voi îndelung răbdători, întăriţi-vă inimile, căci(H) venirea Domnului este aproape. 9 Nu(I) vă plângeţi unii împotriva altora, fraţilor, ca să nu fiţi judecaţi; iată că Judecătorul este(J) chiar la uşă. 10 Fraţii mei, luaţi(K) ca pildă de suferinţă şi de răbdare pe prorocii care au vorbit în Numele Domnului. 11 Iată, noi numim fericiţi(L) pe cei ce au răbdat. Aţi auzit vorbindu-se despre răbdarea(M) lui Iov şi aţi văzut ce sfârşit i-a dat Domnul(N) şi cum Domnul(O) este plin de milă şi de îndurare. 12 Mai presus de toate, fraţii mei, să(P) nu vă juraţi nici pe cer, nici pe pământ, nici cu vreun altfel de jurământ. Ci „da” al vostru să fie „da”, şi „nu” să fie „nu”, ca să nu cădeţi sub judecată. 13 Este vreunul printre voi în suferinţă? Să se roage! Este vreunul cu inimă bună? Să cânte cântări de laudă(Q)! 14 Este vreunul printre voi bolnav? Să cheme pe prezbiterii[a] Bisericii şi să se roage pentru el, după ce-l vor unge(R) cu untdelemn în Numele Domnului. 15 Rugăciunea făcută cu credinţă va mântui pe cel bolnav şi Domnul îl va însănătoşi şi(S), dacă a făcut păcate, îi vor fi iertate. 16 Mărturisiţi-vă unii altora păcatele şi rugaţi-vă unii pentru alţii, ca să fiţi vindecaţi. Mare(T) putere are rugăciunea fierbinte a celui neprihănit. 17 Ilie era un om supus aceloraşi(U) slăbiciuni ca şi noi şi(V) s-a rugat cu stăruinţă să nu plouă, şi(W) n-a plouat deloc în ţară trei ani şi şase luni. 18 Apoi s-a rugat din nou(X) şi cerul a dat ploaie şi pământul şi-a dat rodul. 19 Fraţilor, dacă(Y) s-a rătăcit vreunul dintre voi de la adevăr şi-l întoarce un altul, 20 să ştiţi că cine întoarce pe un păcătos de la rătăcirea căii lui va(Z) mântui un suflet de la moarte şi va(AA) acoperi o sumedenie de păcate.

Warning to the Rich
5 Come now, you rich(A) people, weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted and your clothes are moth-eaten.(B) 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.(C) 4 Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers(D) who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.(E) 5 You have lived luxuriously on the earth and have indulged yourselves. You have fattened your hearts(F) in a day of slaughter.(G) 6 You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous, who does not resist you.(H)
Waiting for the Lord
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.(I) 8 You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.(J)
9 Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!(K)
10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name as an example of suffering and patience. 11 See, we count as blessed those who have endured.[a] You have heard of Job’s endurance(L) and have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about—the Lord is compassionate and merciful.(M)
Truthful Speech
12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath.(N) But let your “yes” mean “yes,” and your “no” mean “no,” so that you won’t fall under judgment.[b]
Effective Prayer
13 Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone cheerful? He should sing praises.(O) 14 Is anyone among you sick? He should call for the elders of the church, and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.(P) 15 The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up; if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.(Q) 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.(R) 17 Elijah was a human being as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land.(S) 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land produced its fruit.(T)
19 My brothers and sisters, if any among you strays from the truth,(U) and someone turns him back,(V) 20 let that person know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.(W)
