Xi-ba Tôi Tớ của Mê-phi-bô-sết
16 Khi Ða-vít vừa qua khỏi đỉnh núi chẳng bao lâu, Xi-ba tôi tớ của Mê-phi-bô-sết đến đón vua. Ông ấy dẫn theo hai con lừa, trên lưng đã nịt sẵn yên; chúng chở hai trăm ổ bánh, một trăm chùm nho khô, một trăm trái cây mùa hè, và một bầu da rượu. 2 Vua hỏi Xi-ba, “Ngươi định làm gì với những thứ nầy?”
Xi-ba đáp, “Mấy con lừa xin dùng cho người trong hoàng gia cỡi, bánh và trái cây mùa hè xin để những người đi theo đức vua ăn, còn rượu thì xin dành cho những ai mệt mỏi trong đồng hoang uống.”
3 Vua hỏi, “Còn con trai của chủ ngươi đâu?”
Xi-ba tâu với vua, “Thưa, ông ấy vẫn còn ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, vì ông ấy bảo, ‘Hôm nay nhà I-sơ-ra-ên sẽ tái lập vương quốc của cha ta lại cho ta.’”
4 Vua nói với Xi-ba, “Nầy, tất cả những gì của Mê-phi-bô-sết bây giờ trở thành của ngươi.”
Xi-ba đáp, “Xin lạy tạ ơn ngài. Nguyện lúc nào tôi cũng được ơn trước mặt ngài, tâu vua, chúa thượng của tôi!”
Si-mê-i Nguyền Rủa Ða-vít
5 Khi Ða-vít vừa đến Ba-hu-rim, nầy, có một người trong gia tộc của gia đình Sau-lơ tên là Si-mê-i con của Ghê-ra ở đó đi ra. Ông ra đón đường vua và nguyền rủa vua. 6 Ông lấy đá ném vào Ða-vít và vào cả bề tôi của Vua Ða-vít. Thấy vậy mọi người và tất cả các vệ sĩ liền đi kèm bên phải và bên trái vua để bảo vệ vua.
7 Si-mê-i nguyền rủa như thế nầy, “Hãy cút đi! Hãy cút đi! Hỡi quân khát máu và phường gian ác![a] 8 Chúa đã đổ trên ngươi tất cả máu của gia đình Sau-lơ, người đã bị ngươi chiếm ngôi. Chúa đã ban vương quốc cho Áp-sa-lôm con trai ngươi. Nầy, ngươi đang bị báo trả vì những việc ác ngươi đã làm, và vì ngươi là một tên khát máu.”
9 Thấy vậy A-bi-sai con trai bà Xê-ru-gia thưa với vua, “Tại sao tên chó chết nầy dám nguyền rủa vua, chúa thượng của tôi? Xin ngài cho phép tôi qua lấy đầu nó.”
10 Vua đáp, “Ta phải làm gì với các ngươi đây, hỡi các con trai của bà Xê-ru-gia? Hãy để nó nguyền rủa, vì nếu Chúa đã sai nó, ‘Hãy nguyền rủa Ða-vít,’ thì ai có thể bảo, ‘Tại sao ngươi làm thế?’”
11 Ða-vít lại nói với A-bi-sai và tất cả bầy tôi của ông, “Các ngươi thấy đó, ngay cả con trai ta, do ta sinh ra, mà còn muốn lấy mạng ta, huống chi tên Bên-gia-min nầy? Cứ để yên cho nó, và cứ để nó nguyền rủa. Biết đâu Chúa đã bảo nó làm thế. 12 Biết đâu Chúa nhìn thấy nỗi khổ nhục ta đang chịu, và Chúa sẽ đền bù cho ta bằng phước hạnh vì những lời hắn nguyền rủa ngày nay.”
13 Vậy Ða-vít và những người theo ông cứ đi đường mình, còn Si-mê-i thì đi dọc theo sườn núi, đối ngang với ông, vừa đi vừa nguyền rủa. Ông ấy lấy đá liệng vào vua và hốt bụi ném vào vua. 14 Khi Ða-vít và những người theo vua đến được bờ Sông Giô-đanh,[b] họ mệt lả. Họ dừng lại tại đó nghỉ lấy sức.
Hu-sai Ra Mắt Ápsa-lôm
15 Trong khi đó Áp-sa-lôm và toàn dân, tức toàn quân I-sơ-ra-ên, tiến vào Giê-ru-sa-lem; có A-hi-thô-phên đi với họ. 16 Bấy giờ Hu-sai người Ạc-ki, bạn của Ða-vít, đến với Áp-sa-lôm. Hu-sai nói với Áp-sa-lôm, “Vua vạn tuế! Vua vạn tuế!”
17 Áp-sa-lôm nói với Hu-sai, “Lòng trung thành của ông đối với bạn ông như thế sao? Tại sao ông không đi theo bạn ông?”
18 Hu-sai đáp với Áp-sa-lôm, “Thưa không. Tôi chỉ theo người nào Chúa, dân nầy, và toàn quân I-sơ-ra-ên đã chọn thôi. Tôi sẽ thuộc về người ấy và ở với người ấy. 19 Hơn nữa, tôi sẽ phục vụ ai? Há chẳng phải tôi sẽ phục vụ con trai của cha ngài sao? Tôi đã phục vụ cha ngài thế nào, tôi cũng sẽ phục vụ ngài thể ấy.”
Lời Bàn của A-hi-thô-phên
20 Áp-sa-lôm nói với A-hi-thô-phên, “Các ngươi hãy bàn với nhau xem chúng ta phải làm gì bây giờ.”
21 A-hi-thô-phên nói với Áp-sa-lôm, “Xin ngài hãy đến với các cung phi cha ngài đã để lại giữ cung điện. Rồi toàn thể I-sơ-ra-ên sẽ biết rằng ngài đã trở thành đáng tởm đối với cha ngài. Bấy giờ tay của những người theo ngài sẽ mạnh lên.”
22 Vậy người ta dựng một cái lều trên sân thượng của cung điện và Áp-sa-lôm đến với các cung phi của cha ông tại đó, trước mặt cả I-sơ-ra-ên. 23 Số là thuở ấy người ta coi lời bàn của A-hi-thô-phên có giá trị như lời phán của Ðức Chúa Trời. Mọi lời bàn của A-hi-thô-phên đối với Ða-vít và đối với Áp-sa-lôm đều có giá trị như vậy.

16 And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.
2 And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.
3 And the king said, And where is thy master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.
4 Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.
5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.
7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
8 The Lord hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the Lord hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.
9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the Lord hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the Lord hath bidden him.
12 It may be that the Lord will look on mine affliction, and that the Lord will requite me good for his cursing this day.
13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.
14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
15 And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.
16 And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.
17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?
18 And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the Lord, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.
19 And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.
20 Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.
21 And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.
22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.
23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

Mephibosheth’s Servant
16 When(A) David was a little past the top of the mountain, there was (B)Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth, who met him with a couple of saddled donkeys, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, one hundred clusters of raisins, one hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine. 2 And the king said to Ziba, “What do you mean to do with these?”
So Ziba said, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for (C)those who are faint in the wilderness to drink.”
3 Then the king said, “And where is your (D)master’s son?”
(E)And Ziba said to the king, “Indeed he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, ‘Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.’ ”
4 So the king said to Ziba, “Here, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.”
And Ziba said, “I humbly bow before you, that I may find favor in your sight, my lord, O king!”
Shimei Curses David
5 Now when King David came to (F)Bahurim, there was a man from the family of the house of Saul, whose name was (G)Shimei the son of Gera, coming from there. He came out, cursing continuously as he came. 6 And he threw stones at David and at all the servants of King David. And all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. 7 Also Shimei said thus when he cursed: “Come out! Come out! You [a]bloodthirsty man, (H)you [b]rogue! 8 The Lord has (I)brought upon you all (J)the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the Lord has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. So now you are caught in your own evil, because you are a [c]bloodthirsty man!”
9 Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this (K)dead dog (L)curse my lord the king? Please, let me go over and take off his head!”
10 But the king said, (M)“What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because (N)the Lord has said to him, ‘Curse David.’ (O)Who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’ ”
11 And David said to Abishai and all his servants, “See how (P)my son who (Q)came from my own body seeks my life. How much more now may this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse; for so the Lord has ordered him. 12 It may be that the Lord will look on [d]my affliction, and that the Lord will (R)repay me with (S)good for his cursing this day.” 13 And as David and his men went along the road, Shimei went along the hillside opposite him and cursed as he went, threw stones at him and [e]kicked up dust. 14 Now the king and all the people who were with him became weary; so they refreshed themselves there.
The Advice of Ahithophel
15 Meanwhile (T)Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem; and Ahithophel was with him. 16 And so it was, when Hushai the Archite, (U)David’s friend, came to Absalom, that (V)Hushai said to Absalom, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”
17 So Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this your loyalty to your friend? (W)Why did you not go with your friend?”
18 And Hushai said to Absalom, “No, but whom the Lord and this people and all the men of Israel choose, his I will be, and with him I will remain. 19 Furthermore, (X)whom should I serve? Should I not serve in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father’s presence, so will I be in your presence.”
20 Then Absalom said to (Y)Ahithophel, “Give advice as to what we should do.”
21 And Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Go in to your father’s (Z)concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you (AA)are abhorred by your father. Then (AB)the hands of all who are with you will be strong.” 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines (AC)in the sight of all Israel.
23 Now the advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if one had inquired at the oracle of God. So was all the advice of Ahithophel (AD)both with David and with Absalom.

Absalom Enters Jerusalem
15 (T)Now Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him. 16 And when Hushai the Archite, (U)David's friend, came to Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, (V)“Long live the king! Long live the king!” 17 And Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this your loyalty to your friend? (W)Why did you not go with your friend?” 18 And Hushai said to Absalom, “No, for whom the Lord and this people and all the men of Israel have chosen, his I will be, and with him I will remain. 19 And again, (X)whom should I serve? Should it not be his son? As I have served your father, so I will serve you.”
20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give your counsel. What shall we do?” 21 Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Go in to (Y)your father's concubines, whom he has left to keep the house, and all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench to your father, and (Z)the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.” 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom (AA)on the roof. And Absalom went in to his father's concubines (AB)in the sight of all Israel. 23 Now in those days the counsel that Ahithophel gave was as if one consulted the word of God; so was all the counsel of Ahithophel esteemed, (AC)both by David and by Absalom.
