Giê-hô-a-ha Trị Vì I-sơ-ra-ên
13 Năm thứ hai mươi ba của triều đại Giô-ách con của A-ha-xi-a nước Giu-đa, Giê-hô-a-ha con của Giê-hu lên ngôi làm vua I-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri. Ông trị vì mười bảy năm. 2 Ông làm điều tội lỗi trước mặt Chúa, đi theo những tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am con của Nê-bát, tức những điều ông ấy đã gây cho I-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội. Ông chẳng từ bỏ những tội lỗi đó. 3 Cơn giận của Chúa nổi lên với I-sơ-ra-ên. Ngài phó họ vào tay Ha-xa-ên vua A-ram và vào tay Bên Ha-đát con của Ha-xa-ên suốt thời hai vua đó. 4 Bấy giờ Giê-hô-a-ha cầu xin Chúa; Chúa nhậm lời ông vì Ngài thấy cảnh áp bức mà dân I-sơ-ra-ên gánh chịu, thể nào vua A-ram đã đàn áp họ. 5 Vì thế Chúa đã ban cho dân I-sơ-ra-ên một người giải cứu, để họ thoát khỏi quyền lực của dân A-ram, và mọi người trong I-sơ-ra-ên được sống an lạc dưới mái lều mình như ngày trước. 6 Tuy nhiên họ vẫn không từ bỏ những tội lỗi của nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, tức những điều ông ấy đã gây cho I-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội, nhưng họ cứ phạm các tội lỗi đó, đến nỗi trụ thờ Nữ Thần A-sê-ra vẫn còn đứng sừng sững tại Sa-ma-ri.
7 Chúa đã để cho đội quân của Giê-hô-a-ha chỉ còn lại năm mươi kỵ binh, mười xe chiến mã, và mười ngàn bộ binh, vì vua A-ram đã tiêu diệt họ và nghiền nát họ như bụi nơi sân đập lúa.
8 Những việc khác của Giê-hô-a-ha, những việc ông thực hiện, quyền lực của ông, há chẳng được chép trong sách Sử Ký của Các Vua I-sơ-ra-ên sao? 9 Giê-hô-a-ha an giấc với tổ tiên ông và được chôn tại Sa-ma-ri. Giê-hô-ách[a] con trai ông lên ngôi kế vị.

10 Năm thứ ba mươi bảy của triều đại Giô-ách vua Giu-đa, Giê-hô-ách con của Giê-hô-a-ha lên ngôi làm vua I-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri. Ông trị vì mười sáu năm. 11 Ông làm điều tội lỗi trước mặt Chúa. Ông chẳng từ bỏ những tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am con của Nê-bát, tức những điều ông ấy đã gây cho I-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội, nhưng ông cứ đi theo con đường tội lỗi đó. 12 Những việc khác của Giê-hô-ách; tất cả những việc ông làm, những chiến công của ông khi đánh nhau với A-ma-xi-a vua Giu-đa há chẳng được chép trong sách Sử Ký của Các Vua I-sơ-ra-ên sao? 13 Giê-hô-ách an giấc với các tổ tiên ông. Giê-rô-bô-am lên ngôi kế vị. Giê-hô-ách được chôn tại Sa-ma-ri, trong nghĩa trang của các vua I-sơ-ra-ên.
Ê-li-sê Qua Ðời
14 Khi ấy Ê-li-sê lâm bịnh và cơn bịnh ấy khiến ông qua đời. Vua Giê-hô-ách của I-sơ-ra-ên xuống thăm ông. Vua khóc trước mặt ông và than rằng, “Cha ơi! Cha ơi! Các xe chiến mã và các kỵ binh của I-sơ-ra-ên ơi!”
15 Ê-li-sê nói với ông, “Xin ngài lấy cung và tên ra.” Ông lấy cung và tên ra.
16 Ê-li-sê nói với vua I-sơ-ra-ên, “Xin ngài giương cung lên.” Vua giương cung lên.
Ê-li-sê đặt tay ông trên tay vua, 17 rồi bảo, “Xin ngài mở cửa sổ về hướng đông.” Vua đến mở cửa sổ ấy.
Ê-li-sê nói, “Ngài hãy bắn đi.” Vua liền bắn.
Bấy giờ Ê-li-sê nói, “Ấy là mũi tên chiến thắng của Chúa, mũi tên chiến thắng dân A-ram. Vì ngài sẽ đánh bại dân A-ram tại A-phéc cho đến khi ngài tận diệt chúng.”
18 Ông nói tiếp, “Xin ngài lấy một bó tên.” Vua lấy ra một bó tên.
Ông nói với vua I-sơ-ra-ên, “Xin đập chúng xuống đất.” Vua đập chúng xuống đất ba lần rồi ngừng lại.
19 Bấy giờ người của Ðức Chúa Trời nổi giận với vua và nói, “Ðáng lẽ ngài phải đập năm hay sáu lần, như thế ngài mới có thể tận diệt chúng được, nhưng bây giờ ngài chỉ có thể đánh bại dân A-ram ba lần thôi.”
20 Sau đó Ê-li-sê qua đời. Người ta đem thi thể ông an táng trong một ngôi mộ. Thuở ấy cứ mỗi độ xuân sang, các toán quân Mô-áp hay xâm nhập vào xứ để cướp bóc. 21 Nhằm lúc người ta đem chôn một người chết, họ thấy một toán quân cướp tiến đến, nên họ vội vàng ném thây người chết vào mộ của Ê-li-sê để chạy thoát thân. Vừa khi thây người chết đụng vào hài cốt của Ê-li-sê, người chết đó liền sống lại và đứng dậy.

22 Ha-xa-ên vua A-ram đàn áp I-sơ-ra-ên suốt triều đại của Giê-hô-a-ha. 23 Nhưng Chúa đã dủ lòng nhân của Ngài đối với họ, thương xót họ, và đoái đến họ; vì giao ước của Ngài đối với Áp-ra-ham, I-sác, và Gia-cốp, nên cho đến lúc ấy Ngài vẫn không diệt họ và không cất họ khỏi thánh nhan Ngài.
24 Khi Ha-xa-ên vua A-ram băng hà, Bên Ha-đát con trai ông ấy lên nối ngôi, 25 Giê-hô-ách con của Giê-hô-a-ha lấy lại khỏi tay Bên Ha-đát con của Ha-xa-ên các thành mà Ha-xa-ên đã chiếm lấy của Giê-hô-a-ha cha ông qua các cuộc chiến tranh trước. Giê-hô-ách đánh bại Bên Ha-đát ba lần và lấy lại các thành đã bị mất về cho I-sơ-ra-ên.

13 In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.
2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
3 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4 And Jehoahaz besought the Lord, and the Lord hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5 (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)
7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.
8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.
10 In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.
11 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.
12 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
13 And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.
15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.
16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands.
17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
22 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.
25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

Jehoahaz Reigns in Israel
13 In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years. 2 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, (A)which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart from them. 3 (B)And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them continually into the hand of (C)Hazael king of Syria and into the hand of (D)Ben-hadad the son of Hazael. 4 Then Jehoahaz (E)sought the favor of the Lord, and the Lord listened to him, (F)for he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Syria oppressed them. 5 (Therefore the Lord gave Israel (G)a savior, so that they escaped from the hand of the Syrians, and the people of Israel lived in (H)their homes as formerly. 6 Nevertheless, they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, (I)which he made Israel to sin, but walked[a] in them; and (J)the Asherah also remained in Samaria.) 7 For there was not left to Jehoahaz an army of more than fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Syria had destroyed them and made them like the dust (K)at threshing. 8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 9 So Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria, and Joash his son reigned in his place.
Jehoash Reigns in Israel
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash[b] the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. 11 He also did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, (L)which he made Israel to sin, but he walked in them. 12 (M)Now the rest of the acts of Joash (N)and all that he did, (O)and the might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 13 So Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
The Death of Elisha
14 Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept before him, crying, (P)“My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” 15 And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and arrows.” So he took a bow and arrows. 16 Then he said to the king of Israel, “Draw the bow,” and he drew it. And Elisha laid his hands on the king's hands. 17 And he said, “Open the window eastward,” and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot,” and he shot. And he said, “The Lord's arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Syria! For you shall fight the Syrians in (Q)Aphek until you have made an end of them.” 18 And he said, “Take the arrows,” and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground with them.” And he struck three times and stopped. 19 Then (R)the man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria until you had made an end of it, but now you will strike down Syria only (S)three times.”
20 So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of (T)Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. 21 And as a man was being buried, behold, a marauding band was seen and the man was thrown into the grave of Elisha, and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.
22 (U)Now Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. 23 (V)But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion on them, (W)and he turned toward them, (X)because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, nor has he cast them from his presence until now.
24 When Hazael king of Syria died, Ben-hadad his son became king in his place. 25 Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities (Y)that he had taken from Jehoahaz his father in war. (Z)Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel.
