Gia đình A-háp và A-cha-xia bị giết
10 A-háp có bảy mươi con trai ở Xa-ma-ri. Giê-hu viết thư gởi đến Xa-ma-ri cho các lãnh tụ và các bô lão ở Ghít-rê-ên [a] và cho các người bảo hộ các con trai A-háp. Giê-hu viết, 2 “Các ngươi đang có các con trai của chủ các ngươi ở với mình. Các ngươi cũng có quân xa, ngựa, thành kiên cố và vũ khí. 4 Nhưng các sĩ quan và lãnh tụ Ghít-rê-ên vô cùng sợ hãi. Họ bảo nhau, “Hai vua mà còn chưa địch nổi Giê-hu, huống hồ là chúng ta?”
5 Viên quản lý cung vua, viên tổng trấn thành phố, các lãnh tụ, và các người giám hộ nhắn với Giê-hu như sau, “Chúng tôi là tôi tớ ông. Chúng tôi sẽ làm mọi điều ông bảo chúng tôi. Chúng tôi sẽ không lập ai làm vua cả cho nên ông muốn sao cũng được.”
Các lãnh tụ Xa-ma-ri giết con cái A-háp
6 Sau đó Giê-hu viết một lá thư thứ hai nói rằng, “Nếu các ngươi về phe ta và vâng lời ta thì hãy cắt đầu các con của chủ các ngươi và ngày mai đến gặp ta ở Ghít-rê-ên khoảng giờ nầy.”
Lúc đó bảy mươi con trai của gia đình vua đang ở với các lãnh tụ của thành phố tức giám hộ của chúng. 7 Khi các lãnh tụ nhận được thư liền bắt giết tất cả bảy mươi con trai vua. Họ để các đầu của chúng nó trong giỏ và gởi đến cho Giê-hu ở Ghít-rê-ên. 8 Sứ giả đến bảo Giê-hu, “Họ đã mang đầu của các con vua đến đây.”
Giê-hu ra lệnh, “Hãy chất các đầu đó thành hai đống nơi cửa thành cho đến sáng mai.” 9 Đến sáng hôm sau, Giê-hu đi ra đứng trước dân chúng và nói cùng họ rằng, “Các ngươi vô tội. Các ngươi phải biết rằng chính ta đã âm mưu chống chủ ta và giết người chết. Nhưng ai đã giết những người nầy? 10 Các ngươi nên biết rằng tất cả những gì CHÚA nói về gia đình A-háp đều thành sự thật cả. CHÚA đã phán qua Ê-li-sê, tôi tớ Ngài và Ngài đã thực hiện điều Ngài phán.”
11 Vậy Giê-hu tàn sát toàn bộ những người còn sống sót trong gia đình A-háp ở Ghít-rê-ên. Ông cũng giết hết các người cầm đầu của A-háp, bạn hữu vua, và các thầy tế lễ. Không một ai đã từng giúp đỡ A-háp mà còn sống sót.
Giê-hu giết các thân nhân của A-cha-xia
12 Rồi Giê-hu ra đi đến Xa-ma-ri theo con đường đến Bết-Ê-kết của các kẻ Chăn Chiên. 13 Ở đó ông gặp một số thân nhân của A-cha-xia, vua Giu-đa. Giê-hu hỏi họ, “Các ngươi là ai?”
Họ đáp, “Chúng tôi là bà con của A-cha-xia. Chúng tôi xuống để trả thù cho gia đình của vua và của mẹ vua.” [b] 14 Giê-hu liền ra lệnh, “Bắt sống chúng hết!”
Vậy họ bắt sống hết các thân nhân của A-cha-xia và giết họ ở giếng gần Bết-Ê-kết. Có tất cả bốn mươi hai người. Giê-hu không chừa một ai sống sót.
Giê-hu gặp Giê-hô-na-đáp
15 Sau khi Giê-hu rời nơi đó, ông gặp Giê-hô-na-đáp, con trai Rê-cáp, người cũng đang trên đường đến gặp Giê-hu. Giê-hu chào ông và hỏi, “Anh là bạn tốt với tôi như tôi là bạn tốt với anh phải không?” [c]
Giê-hô-na-đáp trả lời, “Phải, tôi là bạn tốt của ông.”
Giê-hu bảo, “Nếu vậy hãy trao tay anh cho tôi.” Vậy Giê-hô-na-đáp giơ tay ra. Giê-hu liền nắm tay kéo ông lên xe với mình.
16 Giê-hu nói, “Hãy đi với tôi. Anh sẽ thấy tôi sốt sắng với CHÚA như thế nào.” Vậy Giê-hu cho Giê-hô-na-đáp đi chung xe với mình. 17 Khi đến Xa-ma-ri, Giê-hu giết tất cả những người trong gia đình A-háp ở đó. Ông giết sạch những người còn sống sót như CHÚA đã bảo cho Ê-li-sê.
Những người thờ thần Ba-anh bị giết
18 Rồi Giê-hu triệu tập hết dân chúng lại bảo rằng, “A-háp thờ phụng Ba-anh ít, Giê-hu sẽ thờ phụng Ba-anh nhiều hơn. 19 Bây giờ các ngươi hãy triệu tập tất cả các tiên tri, những thầy tế lễ, và tất cả những ai thờ lạy Ba-anh đến đây. Đừng để ai vắng mặt trong buổi họp nầy vì ta muốn dâng của lễ lớn cho Ba-anh. Ai vắng mặt trong bữa đó sẽ không toàn mạng.”
Nhưng Giê-hu phỉnh họ để ông có thể tiêu trừ những kẻ thờ lạy Ba-anh. 20 Ông bảo, “Hãy chuẩn bị một buổi họp long trọng cho Ba-anh.” Vì thế họ thông báo cuộc họp. 21 Rồi Giê-hu loan báo khắp Ít-ra-en, nên tất cả những kẻ thờ lạy Ba-anh đều đến không sót ai. Chúng đi vào đền thờ Ba-anh nên đền thờ chật ních.
22 Giê-hu ra lệnh cho người giữ áo lễ, “Hãy mang các áo lễ ra cho các người thờ lạy Ba-anh.” Sau khi người đó mang áo lễ ra cho họ,
23 thì Giê-hu và Giê-hô-na-đáp, con Rê-cáp, đi vào đền thờ Ba-anh. Giê-hu nhìn quanh và bảo các người thờ thần Ba-anh rằng, “Hãy nhìn quanh để biết chắc rằng không có tôi tớ CHÚA nào ở lẫn lộn trong các ngươi. Ta chỉ muốn toàn những người thờ thần Ba-anh mà thôi.” 24 Rồi những kẻ thờ thần Ba-anh đi vào dâng sinh tế và của lễ thiêu.
Giê-hu và tám mươi người mai phục bên ngoài. Giê-hu bảo họ, “Không được để ai trốn thoát. Nếu không các ngươi phải thế mạng đó.”
25 Khi Giê-hu vừa dâng của lễ xong thì ông ra lệnh cho các lính cận vệ và các sĩ quan chỉ huy, “Hãy xông vào giết tất cả những kẻ thờ thần Ba-anh. Đừng để ai thoát ra ngoài.”
Vậy những binh sĩ cận vệ và các sĩ quan chỉ huy đi vào dùng gươm giết tất cả những kẻ thờ thần Ba-anh và ném xác chúng ra ngoài. Rồi họ đi vào các phòng trong [d] của đền thờ 26 và mang ra các trụ trong đền thờ Ba-anh đem đốt. 27 Họ cũng phá các trụ đá thờ Ba-anh cũng như đền thờ Ba-anh. Họ biến nó thành một hố rác, hãy còn đến nay.
28 Vậy Giê-hu tiêu diệt việc thờ lạy thần Ba-anh trong Ít-ra-en 29 nhưng ông vẫn phạm những tội mà Giê-rô-bô-am, con Nê-bát, đã phạm. Giê-rô-bô-am đã dẫn Ít-ra-en phạm tội bằng cách thờ các bò con vàng ở Bê-tên và Đan.
Giê-hu lên ngôi vua Ít-ra-en
30 CHÚA phán cùng Giê-hu, “Ngươi đã làm rất phải khi vâng lời ta bảo. Ngươi đã làm cho gia đình A-háp theo ý ta muốn. Vì thế cho nên cho đến chắt chít ngươi cũng sẽ có người làm vua trên Ít-ra-en.”
31 Nhưng Giê-hu không cẩn thận và hết lòng vâng theo lời dạy dỗ của CHÚA. Ông vẫn phạm tội như Giê-rô-bô-am đã phạm, đó là dẫn dụ dân Ít-ra-en phạm tội.
Cái chết của Giê-hu
32 Lúc đó CHÚA bắt đầu thu hẹp lãnh thổ Ít-ra-en. Ha-xa-ên đánh thắng Ít-ra-en trên toàn lãnh thổ của họ, 33 chiếm đất phía Đông sông Giô-đanh, gọi là xứ Ghi-lê-át. Đó là miền Gát, Ru-bên, và Ma-na-xe. Người chiếm đất từ A-rê-e bên hố Ạc-nôn qua suốt Ghi-lê-át cho đến Ba-san.

Ahab’s Seventy Sons Killed
10 Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote and sent letters to Samaria, to the rulers of [a]Jezreel, to the elders, and to [b]those who reared Ahab’s sons, saying:
2 Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master’s sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and weapons, 3 choose the [c]best qualified of your master’s sons, set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, “Look, (A)two kings could not [d]stand up to him; how then can we stand?” 5 And he who was in charge of the house, and he who was in charge of the city, the elders also, and those who reared the sons, sent to Jehu, saying, “We are your servants, we will do all you tell us; but we will not make anyone king. Do what is good in your sight.” 6 Then he wrote a second letter to them, saying:
If you are for me and will obey my voice, take the heads of the men, your master’s sons, and come to me at Jezreel by this time tomorrow.
Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were rearing them. 7 So it was, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons and (B)slaughtered seventy persons, put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.
8 Then a messenger came and told him, saying, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.”
And he said, “Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until morning.”
9 So it was, in the morning, that he went out and stood, and said to all the people, “You are righteous. Indeed (C)I conspired against my master and killed him; but who killed all these? 10 Know now that nothing shall (D)fall to the earth of the word of the Lord which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab; for the Lord has done what He spoke (E)by His servant Elijah.” 11 So Jehu killed all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men and his close acquaintances and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
Ahaziah’s Forty-two Brothers Killed
12 And he arose and departed and went to Samaria. On the way, at [e]Beth Eked of the Shepherds, 13 (F)Jehu met with the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, “Who are you?”
So they answered, “We are the brothers of Ahaziah; we have come down to greet the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother.”
14 And he said, “Take them alive!” So they took them alive, and (G)killed them at the well of [f]Beth Eked, forty-two men; and he left none of them.
The Rest of Ahab’s Family Killed
15 Now when he departed from there, he [g]met (H)Jehonadab the son of (I)Rechab, coming to meet him; and he greeted him and said to him, “Is your heart right, as my heart is toward your heart?”
And Jehonadab answered, “It is.”
Jehu said, “If it is, (J)give me your hand.” So he gave him his hand, and he took him up to him into the chariot. 16 Then he said, “Come with me, and see my (K)zeal for the Lord.” So they had him ride in his chariot. 17 And when he came to Samaria, (L)he killed all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed them, according to the word of the Lord (M)which He spoke to Elijah.
Worshipers of Baal Killed
18 Then Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, (N)“Ahab served Baal a little, Jehu will serve him much. 19 Now therefore, call to me all the (O)prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. Let no one be missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever is missing shall not live.” But Jehu acted deceptively, with the intent of destroying the worshipers of Baal. 20 And Jehu said, [h]“Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal.” So they proclaimed it. 21 Then Jehu sent throughout all Israel; and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. So they came into the [i]temple of Baal, and the (P)temple of Baal was full from one end to the other. 22 And he said to the one in charge of the wardrobe, “Bring out vestments for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out vestments for them. 23 Then Jehu and Jehonadab the son of Rechab went into the temple of Baal, and said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search and see that no servants of the Lord are here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal.” 24 So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men on the outside, and had said, “If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escapes, whoever lets him escape, it shall be (Q)his life for the life of the other.”
25 Now it happened, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, “Go in and kill them; let no one come out!” And they killed them with the edge of the sword; then the guards and the officers threw them out, and went into the [j]inner room of the temple of Baal. 26 And they brought the (R)sacred pillars out of the temple of Baal and burned them. 27 Then they broke down the sacred pillar of Baal, and tore down the [k]temple of Baal and (S)made it a refuse dump to this day. 28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal from Israel.
29 However Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from (T)the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan. 30 And the Lord (U)said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in doing what is right in My sight, and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in My heart, (V)your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” 31 But Jehu [l]took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart; for he did not depart from (W)the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin.
Death of Jehu
32 In those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel; and (X)Hazael conquered them in all the territory of Israel 33 from the Jordan eastward: all the land of Gilead—Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh—from (Y)Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, including (Z)Gilead and Bashan.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 35 So Jehu [m]rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then (AA)Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place. 36 And the period that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.

2 Luego en llegando estas letras á vosotros lo que tenéis los hijos de vuestro señor, y los que tenéis carros y gente de á caballo, la ciudad pertrechada, y las armas,
3 Mirad cuál es el mejor y él más recto de los hijos de vuestro señor, y ponedlo en el trono de su padre, y pelead por la casa de vuestro señor.
4 Mas ellos tuvieron gran temor, y dijeron: He aquí dos reyes no pudieron resistirle, ¿cómo le resistiremos nosotros?
5 Y el mayordomo, y el presidente de la ciudad, y los ancianos, y los ayos, enviaron á decir á Jehú: Siervos tuyos somos, y haremos todo lo que nos mandares: no elegiremos por rey á ninguno; tú harás lo que bien te pareciere.
6 El entonces les escribió la segunda vez diciendo: Si sois míos, y queréis obedecerme, tomad las cabezas de los varones hijos de vuestro señor, y venid mañana á estas horas á mí á Jezreel. Y los hijos del rey, setenta varones, estaban con los principales de la ciudad, que los criaban.

8 Y vino un mensajero que le dió las nuevas, diciendo: Traído han las cabezas de los hijos del rey. Y él le dijo: Ponedlas en dos montones á la entrada de la puerta hasta la mañana.
9 Venida la mañana, salió él, y estando en pie dijo á todo el pueblo: Vosotros sois justos: he aquí yo he conspirado contra mi señor, y lo he muerto: ¿mas quién ha muerto á todos estos?
10 Sabed ahora que de la palabra de Jehová que habló sobre la casa de Achâb, nada caerá en tierra: y que Jehová ha hecho lo que dijo por su siervo Elías.
11 Mató entonces Jehú á todos los que habían quedado de la casa de Achâb en Jezreel, y á todos sus príncipes, y á todos sus familiares, y á sus sacerdotes, que no le quedó ninguno.
12 Y levantóse de allí, y vino á Samaria; y llegando él en el camino á una casa de esquileo de pastores,
13 Halló allí á los hermanos de Ochôzías rey de Judá, y díjoles: ¿Quién sois vosotros? Y ellos dijeron: Somos hermanos de Ochôzías, y hemos venido á saludar á los hijos del rey, y á los hijos de la reina.
14 Entonces él dijo: Prendedlos vivos. Y después que los tomaron vivos, degolláronlos junto al pozo de la casa de esquileo, cuarenta y dos varones, sin dejar ninguno de ellos.
15 Partiéndose luego de allí encontróse con Jonadab hijo de Rechâb; y después que lo hubo saludado, díjole: ¿Es recto tu corazón, como el mío es recto con el tuyo? Y Jonadab dijo: Lo es. Pues que lo es, dame la mano. Y él le dió su mano. Hízolo luego subir consigo en el carro.
16 Y díjole: Ven conmigo, y verás mi celo por Jehová. Pusiéronlo pues en su carro.
17 Y luego que hubo Jehú llegado á Samaria, mató á todos los que habían quedado de Achâb en Samaria, hasta extirparlos, conforme á la palabra de Jehová, que había hablado por Elías.
18 Y juntó Jehú todo el pueblo, y díjoles: Achâb sirvió poco á Baal; mas Jehú lo servirá mucho.
19 Llamadme pues luego á todos los profetas de Baal, á todos sus siervos, y á todos sus sacerdotes; que no falte uno, porque tengo un gran sacrifico para Baal; cualquiera que faltare, no vivirá. Esto hacía Jehú con astucia, para destruir á los que honraban á Baal.
20 Y dijo Jehú: Santificad un día solemne á Baal. Y ellos convocaron.
21 Y envió Jehú por todo Israel, y vinieron todos los siervos de Baal, que no faltó ninguno que no viniese. Y entraron en el templo de Baal, y el templo de Baal se llenó de cabo á cabo.
22 Entonces dijo al que tenía el cargo de las vestiduras: Saca vestiduras para todos lo siervos de Baal. Y él les sacó vestimentas.
23 Y entró Jehú con Jonadab hijo de Rechâb en el templo de Baal, y dijo á los siervos de Baal: Mirad y ved que por dicha no haya aquí entre vosotros alguno de los siervos de Jehová, sino solos los siervos de Baal.
24 Y como ellos entraron para hacer sacrificios y holocaustos, Jehú puso fuera ochenta hombres, y díjoles: Cualquiera que dejare vivo alguno de aquellos hombres que yo he puesto en vuestras manos, su vida será por la del otro.
25 Y después que acabaron ellos de hacer el holocausto, Jehú dijo á los de su guardia y á los capitanes: Entrad, y matadlos; que no escape ninguno. Y los hirieron á cuchillo: y dejáronlos tendidos los de la guardia y los capitanes, y fueron hasta la ciudad del templo de Baal.
26 Y sacaron las estatuas de la casa de Baal, y quemáronlas.
27 Y quebraron la estatua de Baal, y derribaron la casa de Baal, é hiciéronla necesaria, hasta hoy.
28 Así extinguió Jehú á Baal de Israel.
29 Con todo eso Jehú no se apartó de los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar á Israel; á saber, de en pos de los becerros de oro que estaban en Beth-el y en Dan.
30 Y Jehová dijo á Jehú: Por cuanto has hecho bien ejecutando lo recto delante de mis ojos, é hiciste á la casa de Achâb conforme á todo lo que estaba en mi corazón, tus hijos se sentarán en el trono de Israel hasta la cuarta generación.
31 Mas Jehú no cuidó de andar en la ley de Jehová Dios de Israel con todo su corazón, ni se apartó de los pecados de Jeroboam, el que había hecho pecar á Israel.
32 En aquellos días comenzó Jehová á talar en Israel: é hiriólos Hazael en todos los términos de Israel,
33 Desde el Jordán al nacimiento del sol, toda la tierra de Galaad, de Gad, de Rubén, y de Manasés, desde Aroer que está junto al arroyo de Arnón, á Galaad y á Basán.
34 Lo demás de los hechos de Jehú, y todas las cosas que hizo, y toda su valentía, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?
35 Y durmió Jehú con sus padres, y sepultáronlo en Samaria: y reinó en su lugar Joachâz su hijo.
36 El tiempo que reinó Jehú sobre Israel en Samaria, fué veintiocho años.
