10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent (A)to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Peter’s Approaching Death

12 For this reason (B)I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, (C)though you know and are established in the present truth. 13 Yes, I think it is right, (D)as long as I am in this [a]tent, (E)to stir you up by reminding you, 14 (F)knowing that shortly I must [b]put off my tent, just as (G)our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. 15 Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my [c]decease.

The Trustworthy Prophetic Word(H)

16 For we did not follow (I)cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the (J)power and (K)coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were (L)eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: (M)“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on (N)the holy mountain.

19 [d]And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a (O)light that shines in a dark place, (P)until (Q)the day dawns and the morning star rises in your (R)hearts; 20 knowing this first, that (S)no prophecy of Scripture is of any private [e]interpretation, 21 for (T)prophecy never came by the will of man, (U)but [f]holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Destructive Doctrines

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be (V)false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction [g]does not slumber.

Doom of False Teachers

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to [h]hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of (W)Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;

10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more diligent to make certain about His (A)calling and (B)choice of you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never (C)stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into (D)the eternal kingdom of our (E)Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be (F)abundantly (G)supplied to you.

12 Therefore, (H)I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them and have been established in (I)the truth which is present with you. 13 I consider it (J)right, as long as I am in (K)this earthly [a]dwelling, to (L)stir you up by way of reminder, 14 knowing that (M)the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, (N)as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my (O)departure you will be able to call these things to mind.

Eyewitnesses

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised (P)tales when we made known to you the (Q)power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were (R)eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a (S)[b]declaration as this was made to Him by the (T)Majestic Glory: “This is [c]My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”— 18 and we ourselves heard this [d]declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the (U)holy mountain.

19 And so we have (V)the prophetic word made more (W)sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to (X)a lamp shining in a dark place, until the (Y)day dawns and the (Z)morning star arises (AA)in your hearts. 20 But (AB)know this first of all, that (AC)no prophecy of Scripture [e]becomes a matter of [f]someone’s own interpretation, 21 for (AD)no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men (AE)moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

The Appearance of False Prophets

But (AF)false prophets also appeared among the people, just as there will also be (AG)false teachers (AH)among you, who will (AI)secretly introduce (AJ)destructive heresies, even (AK)denying the (AL)Master who (AM)bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their (AN)indecent behavior, and because of them (AO)the way of the truth will be (AP)maligned; and in their (AQ)greed they will (AR)exploit you with (AS)false words; (AT)their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

For (AU)if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into [g]hell and (AV)committed them to [h]pits of darkness, held for judgment; and did not spare (AW)the ancient world, but protected (AX)Noah, a [i]preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a (AY)flood upon the world of the ungodly; and if He (AZ)condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an (BA)example [j]of what is coming for the (BB)ungodly;

10 Therefore, brothers, make every effort to confirm your calling and election,(A) because if you do these things you will never stumble. 11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom(B) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied to you.

12 Therefore I will always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth(C) you have. 13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this bodily tent,[a](D) to wake you up with a reminder, 14 knowing that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has also shown me.(E) 15 And I will also make every effort that you may be able to recall these things at any time after my departure.[b]

The Trustworthy Prophetic Word

16 For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ;(F) instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.(G) 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory:

This is My beloved Son.[c]
I take delight in Him![d](H)

18 And we heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with Him on the holy mountain.(I) 19 So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. You will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dismal place,(J) until the day dawns(K) and the morning star(L) rises in your hearts. 20 First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by the will of man;(M) instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.(N)

The Judgment of False Teachers

But there were also false prophets(O) among the people, just as there will be false teachers(P) among you. They will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought(Q) them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their unrestrained ways, and the way of truth will be blasphemed because of them.(R) They will exploit(S) you in their greed(T) with deceptive words. Their condemnation,(U) pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

For if God didn’t spare(V) the angels who sinned but threw them down into Tartarus[e](W) and delivered them to be kept in chains[f] of darkness until judgment;(X) and if He didn’t spare the ancient world, but protected Noah,(Y) a preacher of righteousness, and seven others,[g](Z) when He brought a flood on the world of the ungodly; and if He reduced the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah(AA) to ashes and condemned them to ruin,[h] making them an example to those who were going to be ungodly;[i](AB)

10 Therefore, brothers,[a] be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and (A)election, for if you practice these qualities (B)you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you (C)an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

12 Therefore I intend (D)always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in (E)the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this (F)body,[b] (G)to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 (H)since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, (I)as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

Christ's Glory and the Prophetic Word

16 For we did not follow (J)cleverly devised (K)myths when we made known to you (L)the power and (M)coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but (N)we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, (O)“This is my beloved Son,[c] with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on (P)the holy mountain. 19 And (Q)we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention (R)as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until (S)the day (T)dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For (U)no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God (V)as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

False Prophets and Teachers

But (W)false prophets also arose among the people, (X)just as there will be false teachers among you, who will (Y)secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master (Z)who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth (AA)will be blasphemed. And (AB)in their greed they will exploit you (AC)with false words. (AD)Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

For if God did not spare (AE)angels when they sinned, but (AF)cast them into hell[d] and committed them to chains[e] of gloomy darkness (AG)to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but (AH)preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought (AI)a flood upon the world of the ungodly; if by (AJ)turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, (AK)making them an example of (AL)what is going to happen to the ungodly;[f]

10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall;

11 for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you.

12 Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth.

13 But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance,

14 knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me;

15 but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things.

16 For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of *his* majesty.

17 For he received from God [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom *I* have found my delight;

18 and this voice *we* heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain.

19 And we have the prophetic word [made] surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until [the] day dawn and [the] morning star arise in your hearts;

20 knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation,

21 for prophecy was not ever uttered by [the] will of man, but holy men of God spake under the power of [the] Holy Spirit.

But there were false prophets also among the people, as there shall be also among you false teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and deny the master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction;

and many shall follow their dissolute ways, through whom the way of the truth shall be blasphemed.

And through covetousness, with well-turned words, will they make merchandise of you: for whom judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction slumbers not.

For if God spared not [the] angels who had sinned, but having cast them down to the deepest pit of gloom has delivered them to chains of darkness [to be] kept for judgment;

and spared not [the] old world, but preserved Noe, [the] eighth, a preacher of righteousness, having brought in [the] flood upon [the] world of [the] ungodly;

and having reduced [the] cities of Sodom and Gomorrha to ashes, condemned [them] with an overthrow, setting [them as] an example to those that should [afterwards] live an ungodly life;
