65 CHÚA phán, “Ta đã tỏ mình cho những người không tìm kiếm ta. Những kẻ không xin ta cứu giúp thì đã tìm được ta. Ta phán, ‘Ta đây. Ta đây,’ cùng một dân không cầu nguyện cùng ta.
2 Suốt ngày ta chịu đựng một dân chống nghịch ta, nhưng lối sống của chúng không tốt đẹp; chúng hành động theo ý muốn mình.
3 Ngay trước mặt ta chúng vẫn làm những điều chọc giận ta. Chúng dâng sinh tế cho các thần ngay trong vườn mình [a], và đốt hương trên các bàn thờ bằng gạch. 4 Chúng ngồi giữa mồ mả và suốt đêm ngồi chờ người chết lên tiếng. Chúng ăn thịt heo, và nồi niêu chúng đầy thịt không tinh sạch. 5 Nhưng chúng bảo kẻ khác, ‘Hãy xê ra, đừng đến gần ta. Ta quá thánh khiết so với ngươi.’ Dân nầy như khói trong lỗ mũi ta. Như lửa cháy mãi, chúng cứ chọc giận ta hoài.
Ít-ra-en phải bị trừng phạt
6 Nầy, việc đó đã được ghi tại đây trước mặt ta. Ta sẽ không im lặng; ta sẽ đền đáp ngươi đúng mức. Ta sẽ trừng phạt ngươi về điều ngươi làm. 7 Ta sẽ trừng phạt ngươi vì tội lỗi ngươi và tội lỗi của tổ tiên ngươi,” CHÚA phán vậy. “Chúng đốt hương cho các thần trên núi và làm nhục ta trên các đồi núi đó. Cho nên ta sẽ trừng phạt chúng cho xứng với tội lỗi chúng làm.”
8 CHÚA phán như sau: “Khi trái nho còn nước, người ta bảo ‘Đừng ném bỏ, vì còn dùng được.’” Cho nên ta cũng sẽ đối với các đầy tớ như vậy: Ta sẽ không hoàn toàn tiêu diệt chúng. 9 Ta sẽ để lại một số con cái của Gia-cốp, và một số người trong Giu-đa sẽ nhận núi của ta. Ta sẽ chọn dân sống ở đó; các đầy tớ ta sẽ định cư nơi đó. 10 Rồi Bình nguyên Sa-rôn sẽ làm đồng cỏ cho gia súc, và Thung lũng A-cô [b] sẽ là nơi cho các bầy gia súc nghỉ ngơi. Chúng sẽ là nơi dành cho những kẻ muốn theo ta.
11 “Nhưng riêng về phần các ngươi là những kẻ đã lìa bỏ CHÚA, những kẻ đã quên núi thánh ta [c], những kẻ thờ thần May Mắn, những kẻ giữ lễ cho thần Định Mạng. [d] 12 Chính ta định phần số cho ngươi, ta sẽ dùng gươm trừng phạt ngươi. Tất cả các ngươi đều sẽ bị giết, vì khi ta kêu các ngươi không thèm trả lời. Ta nói nhưng các ngươi không thèm nghe. Các ngươi làm điều ác và làm những việc ta ghét.”
13 Nên CHÚA phán như sau:
“Các đầy tớ ta sẽ ăn,
nhưng các ngươi là những kẻ gian ác sẽ đói.
Các đầy tớ ta sẽ uống,
nhưng các ngươi là những kẻ gian ác sẽ khát.
Các đầy tớ ta sẽ vui mừng,
nhưng các ngươi là những kẻ gian ác sẽ bị hổ nhục.
14 Các đầy tớ ta sẽ reo vui,
nhưng các ngươi sẽ kêu la vì đau đớn [e].
Các ngươi sẽ kêu khóc thảm thiết
vì tinh thần ngươi tan vỡ.
15 Tên các ngươi sẽ là vật nguyền rủa cho đầy tớ ta,
CHÚA sẽ giết các ngươi.
Nhưng Ngài sẽ gọi đầy tớ Ngài bằng một tên khác.
16 Dân cư trong xứ sẽ xin được phước
họ sẽ cầu xin phước lành từ Thượng Đế thành tín.
Còn dân trong xứ hứa nguyện
sẽ nhân danh Thượng Đế thành tín mà hứa nguyện,
vì những khốn khổ xưa kia
sẽ không còn được ai nhớ tới nữa.
Ta sẽ cất những khốn khổ đó đi khỏi các ngươi.
Thời kỳ mới sắp đến
17 Nầy ta sẽ lập một trời mới và đất mới,
dân chúng sẽ không nhớ những việc đã qua
hay suy nghĩ đến những việc đó nữa.
18 Dân ta sẽ vui vẻ muôn đời
vì những điều ta làm.
Ta sẽ làm cho Giê-ru-sa-lem đầy tiếng vui mừng,
Ta sẽ khiến dân cư thành đó trở nên một niềm hớn hở.
19 Ta sẽ vui về Giê-ru-sa-lem
và hớn hở cùng với dân ta.
Trong thành đó người ta sẽ không còn nghe
tiếng kêu khóc và thảm sầu nữa.
20 Trong thành đó sẽ không còn hài nhi chết non.
Cùng sẽ không có người già nào mà không sống lâu.
Ai sống đến trăm tuổi vẫn xem như còn trẻ,
Còn ai qua đời trước trăm tuổi
được xem như là kẻ có tội.
21 Trong thành đó ai cất nhà sẽ được ở trong đó.
Ai trồng vườn nho sẽ được ăn trái.
22 Không còn có cảnh kẻ cất nhà mà người khác ở.
Không còn có cảnh người trồng vườn mà kẻ khác ăn trái.
Dân ta sẽ sống lâu, như cây cối.
Dân chọn lựa của ta sẽ sống ở đó
và vui hưởng điều mình làm ra.
23 Họ sẽ không còn làm việc không công.
Cũng sẽ không còn sinh con chết non.
Tất cả dân ta đều sẽ được CHÚA ban phước;
con cái họ cũng được phước.
24 Trước khi họ xin, ta sẽ ban cho họ điều họ cần,
ta sẽ giúp đỡ khi họ xin ta.
25 Chó sói và sư tử sẽ ăn cùng nhau bình yên,
Sư tử sẽ ăn cỏ khô như bò,
và rắn trên đất sẽ không làm hại ai.
Chúng sẽ không cắn giết nhau,
trên tất cả các núi thánh ta,” CHÚA phán vậy.

65 “Những kẻ vốn chẳng hỏi Ta thì Ta sẵn sàng để cho cầu khẩn.
Những kẻ vốn không tìm kiếm Ta thì Ta sẵn sàng cho gặp.
Ta đã phán cùng một nước không được gọi[a] bằng danh Ta:
‘Ta đây, Ta đây này.’
2 Suốt ngày Ta đưa tay hướng về
Một dân tộc phản nghịch,
Là những người đi trong đường lối không tốt,
Theo ý riêng của mình;
3 Một dân cứ tiếp tục chọc giận
Vào mặt Ta.
Chúng tế lễ trong các vườn,
Dâng hương trên những đống gạch.
4 Chúng ngồi nơi mồ mả;
Ở đêm trong những nơi bí ẩn;
Ăn thịt heo,
Đựng nước canh của đồ ô uế trong chén bát mình.
5 Chúng nói: ‘Hãy tránh ra, đừng đến gần Ta
Vì Ta quá thánh đối với ngươi.’
Những điều này như khói phun ra từ mũi Ta,[b]
Như lửa cháy suốt ngày.
6 Này, đây là điều đã được chép trước mặt Ta:
Ta sẽ không nín lặng nhưng Ta sẽ báo trả,
Ta sẽ báo trả vào lòng chúng nó những tội lỗi
7 Của chúng lẫn tội lỗi tổ tiên chúng,”
CHÚA phán.
“Vì chúng đã dâng hương trên các núi,
Xúc phạm Ta tại các đồi
Nên Ta sẽ đong đầy vào lòng chúng
Sự báo trả về những công việc trước kia của chúng.”
8 CHÚA phán như vầy:
“Như người ta thấy nước cốt nho còn trong chùm nho,
Nên bảo: ‘Đừng phá hủy đi,
Vì có phúc lành trong đó.’
Ta cũng sẽ làm như thế vì cớ các tôi tớ Ta;
Ta sẽ không hủy diệt tất cả.
9 Ta sẽ cho một dòng dõi xuất phát từ Gia-cốp;
Một người từ Giu-đa sẽ sở hữu các núi của Ta.
Những kẻ Ta lựa chọn sẽ sở hữu chúng
Và các tôi tớ Ta sẽ ở đó.
10 Và cho dân Ta, là những người đã tìm kiếm Ta thì Sa-rôn[c] sẽ thành đồng cỏ cho chiên;
Và thung lũng A-cô[d] sẽ là nơi bày bò nằm nghỉ.
11 Còn các ngươi là những kẻ từ bỏ CHÚA,
Quên núi thánh Ta;
Các ngươi đã bày bàn tiệc cho thần May Mắn,[e]
Đã rót đầy rượu pha dâng cho thần Định Mệnh.[f]
12 Ta sẽ định cho các ngươi bị gươm giáo,
Tất cả các ngươi sẽ phải cúi đầu cho người ta giết.
Vì Ta đã gọi nhưng các ngươi không đáp,
Ta đã phán nhưng các ngươi không nghe.
Các ngươi đã làm điều ác trước mắt Ta,
Và chọn những điều Ta không đẹp lòng.”
13 Cho nên CHÚA phán như vầy:
“Này, các tôi tớ Ta sẽ ăn,
Nhưng các ngươi sẽ đói.
Này, các tôi tớ Ta sẽ uống,
Nhưng các ngươi sẽ khát.
Này, các tôi tớ Ta sẽ vui mừng,
Nhưng các ngươi sẽ hổ thẹn.
14 Này, các tôi tớ Ta sẽ ca hát
Vì lòng vui vẻ
Nhưng các ngươi sẽ kêu gào
Vì lòng đau đớn;
Các ngươi sẽ than khóc
Vì tâm thần thống khổ.
15 Các ngươi sẽ lưu danh lại
Để những người được chọn của Ta làm lời nguyền rủa,
Và CHÚA sẽ giết các ngươi,[g]
Nhưng Ngài sẽ ban một tên khác cho các tôi tớ Ngài.
16 Cho nên, ở trong xứ ai cầu phúc cho mình
Thì sẽ nhân danh Đức Chúa Trời chân thật mà cầu;
Ai thề thì sẽ nhân danh
Đức Chúa Trời chân thật mà thề.
Vì những nỗi khốn khổ trước kia
Đã bị quên lãng và đã ẩn tàng khỏi mắt Ta.
17 Vì này, Ta đã sáng tạo
Trời mới và đất mới.
Những điều trước kia sẽ không còn được nhớ đến,
Cũng không được nhắc đến trong tâm trí.[h]
18 Nhưng hãy hân hoan và vui mừng mãi mãi
Vì những gì Ta sáng tạo.
Vì này, Ta tạo nên Giê-ru-sa-lem như một nguồn vui,
Ta dựng nên dân thành ấy như một niềm hoan hỉ.
19 Ta sẽ vui mừng vì Giê-ru-sa-lem,
Ta sẽ hoan hỉ vì dân Ta.
Nơi đó sẽ không còn nghe
Tiếng khóc la, than vãn.
20 Tại đó sẽ không còn
Trẻ con chết yểu,
Cũng chẳng có người già mà không sống đầy tuổi thọ.
Vì người chết lúc trăm tuổi
Là chết trẻ
Và kẻ chỉ sống đến trăm tuổi
Sẽ bị coi như bị rủa sả.[i]
21 Người ta sẽ xây dựng nhà cửa và được ở trong đó,
Sẽ trồng vườn nho và được ăn quả.
22 Họ sẽ không xây nhà cho người khác ở,
Không trồng nho cho người khác ăn trái.
Vì tuổi thọ của dân Ta
Sẽ như số năm của cây;
Những người được chọn của Ta
Sẽ hưởng công lao của tay mình làm.
23 Họ sẽ không làm việc vất vả vô ích,
Không sinh con cái để gặp tai họa bất ngờ,
Vì là dòng dõi được CHÚA ban phước;
Họ cùng con cháu của họ.
24 Trước khi họ gọi, chính Ta đã đáp lời;
Khi họ còn đang nói, chính Ta đã nghe.
25 Chó sói và chiên con sẽ ăn chung,
Sư tử sẽ ăn rơm như bò,
Bụi đất sẽ là thức ăn cho rắn.
Sẽ không có ai làm tổn hại hay tàn phá
Trên khắp núi thánh Ta,”

God zal niet iedereen van zijn volk straffen
65 De Heer zegt: "Ik ben gevonden door mensen die niet naar Mij vroegen. Ik zei aldoor 'Kijk, hier ben Ik, hier ben Ik!'[a] tegen het volk dat Mij niet aanbad. 2 De hele dag strek Ik mijn armen uit naar een ongehoorzaam volk. Naar een volk dat doet wat het zelf wil. Naar een volk dat verkeerde dingen doet. 3 Aldoor maken ze Mij kwaad met wat ze doen. Ze offeren in hun tuinen vlees en wierook aan allerlei goden. 4 Ze gaan op de begraafplaatsen zitten om met de doden te spreken. Ze blijven slapen bij de graven omdat ze hopen dat de geesten daar tot hen zullen spreken. Ze eten varkensvlees en allerlei andere dingen die Ik verboden heb. 5 Ze zeggen: 'Kom niet te dicht bij mij, want ik ben veel heiliger dan jij.' Ze irriteren Mij zoals rook je neus irriteert, rook van een vuur dat de hele dag smeult. 6 Maar hun schuld staat opgeschreven in het boek dat vóór Mij ligt. Ik zal hun schuld niet verzwijgen. Ik zal hen ervoor straffen. 7 Ik zal in één keer afrekenen met hun schuld en met die van hun voorouders. Ik zal hen straffen voor alle offers die ze hebben gebracht op de heuvels en de bergen. Want ze hebben Mij daarmee zwaar beledigd. Ik zal hun de straf geven die ze verdienen.
8 De Heer zegt: De mensen gooien een slechte druiventros niet in zijn geheel weg, omdat in sommige druiven nog wel sap zit. Net zo zal Ik mijn volk niet in zijn geheel vernietigen, omdat een aantal mensen Mij nog dient. 9 Een aantal mensen van mijn volk Israël zal overblijven. Een overblijfsel van Juda zal mijn bergen bezitten. Zij zullen mijn dienaren zijn, de mensen die Ik heb uitgekozen. En zij zullen daar wonen. 10 De Saron-vlakte zal een grasland worden voor de schapen. In het Achor-dal zullen koeien rusten. Het zal zijn voor mijn volk dat naar Mij verlangt.
11 Maar er zijn ook mensen die Mij en mijn heilige berg vergeten. Die voor Gad en Meni[b] offers brengen en feesten houden. Ze gieten zich vol met drank voor hun goden. 12 Zij verdienen allemaal de doodstraf. Jullie zullen allemaal moeten neerknielen om onthoofd te worden. Want toen Ik riep, wilden jullie niet antwoorden. En toen Ik tegen jullie sprak, wilden jullie niet naar Mij luisteren. Jullie deden liever slechte dingen. Jullie deden alles wat Ik verschrikkelijk vind.
13 Daarom zegt de Heer: De mensen die Mij dienen, zullen te eten hebben, maar jullie zullen honger lijden. Mijn dienaren zullen te drinken hebben, maar jullie zullen dorst lijden. Mijn dienaren zullen blij zijn, maar jullie zullen voor schut staan. 14 Mijn dienaren zullen juichen van blijdschap, maar jullie zullen schreeuwen van verdriet en huilen van wanhoop. 15 Mijn dienaren zullen jullie naam gebruiken om andere mensen te vervloeken. Ze zullen zeggen: 'Ik hoop dat het met jullie net zo slecht zal aflopen als met hen.' Jullie zal Ik doden. Maar mijn dienaren zal Ik een nieuwe naam geven. 16 Iedereen die gezegend wil worden, zal aan de God van de Waarheid vragen om hem te zegenen. En iedereen die zweert, zal zweren bij de God van de Waarheid. Want de ellende van vroeger zal vergeten zijn. Ik zal er niet meer aan denken."
God belooft een nieuwe hemel en een nieuwe aarde
17 De Heer zegt: "Want let op, Ik maak een nieuwe hemel[c] en een nieuwe aarde. Alles wat vroeger gebeurd is, zal vergeten zijn. Niemand zal er nog aan denken. 18 Wees voor eeuwig blij over de nieuwe dingen die Ik doe. Juich erover! Want let op, Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat Jeruzalem en mijn volk weer blij zullen zijn. 19 En Ik zal blij zijn over Jeruzalem en over mijn volk. Er zal in Jeruzalem geen gehuil of geschreeuw meer te horen zijn. 20 Geen baby zal kort na zijn geboorte sterven. Alle mensen zullen oud worden. Iemand van honderd jaar zal zelfs nog jong worden genoemd. Als een slecht mens op zijn honderdste sterft, zal er van hem gezegd worden dat hij jong gestorven is doordat hij door God vervloekt was.
21 De mensen zullen zelf wonen in de huizen die ze hebben gebouwd. Ze zullen zelf de wijn drinken van de wijngaarden die ze hebben geplant. 22 Ze zullen geen huizen bouwen waar niet zij, maar anderen in zullen wonen. Ze zullen geen wijngaarden planten waar niet zij, maar anderen de wijn van zullen drinken. Want de mensen van mijn volk zullen zo oud worden als bomen. Ze zullen genieten van dat waar ze zelf zo hard voor hebben gewerkt. 23 Ze zullen niet voor niets hard gewerkt hebben. Ze zullen geen kinderen krijgen die jong sterven. Want zij zijn de nakomelingen van het volk dat door de Heer gezegend is. En hun familie ná hen ook. 24 En Ik zal antwoorden, nog vóórdat ze Mij om hulp hebben geroepen. Ik zal hun al antwoorden terwijl ze nog tegen Mij spreken. 25 Wolven en schapen zullen samen grazen. Leeuwen zullen net als koeien gras eten. Slangen zullen stof eten. Ze zullen niemand kwaad doen. Op mijn heilige berg zal niemand een ander nog kwaad doen, zegt de Heer."

1 [a]I was ready to respond to those who did not ask,
to be found by those who did not seek me.
I said: Here I am! Here I am!
To a nation that did not invoke my name.(A)
2 I have stretched out my hands all day
to a rebellious people,
Who walk in a way that is not good,
following their own designs;(B)
3 A people who provoke me
continually to my face,
Offering sacrifices in gardens
and burning incense on bricks,
4 Sitting in tombs
and spending the night in caves,
Eating the flesh of pigs,
with broth of unclean meat in their dishes;
5 Crying out, “Hold back,
do not come near me, lest I render you holy!”[b]
These things are smoke in my nostrils,
a fire that burns all the day.
6 See, it stands written before me;
I will not remain quiet until I have repaid in full
7 Your crimes and the crimes of your ancestors as well,
says the Lord.
Since they burned incense on the mountains,
and insulted me on the hills,
I will at once pour out in full measure
their recompense into their laps.
Fate of the Just and Unjust in Israel
8 [c]Thus says the Lord:
As when the juice is pressed from a cluster,
and someone says, “Do not destroy it,
for there is still good in it,”
So will I do for the sake of my servants:
I will not destroy them all.
9 From Jacob I will bring forth offspring,
from Judah, those who are to possess my mountains;
My chosen ones shall possess the land,
my servants shall dwell there.
10 Sharon shall become a pasture for the flocks,
the Valley of Achor a resting place for the cattle,
for my people who have sought me.(C)
11 But you who forsake the Lord,
who forget my holy mountain,
Who spread a table for Fortune
and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny,[d]
12 You I will destine for the sword;
you shall all bow down for slaughter;
Because I called and you did not answer,
I spoke and you did not listen,
But did what is evil in my sight
and things I do not delight in, you chose,(D)
13 therefore thus says the Lord God:
My servants shall eat,
but you shall go hungry;
My servants shall drink,
but you shall be thirsty;
My servants shall rejoice,
but you shall be put to shame;
14 My servants shall shout
for joy of heart,
But you shall cry out for grief of heart,
and howl for anguish of spirit.
15 You will leave your name for a curse to my chosen ones
when the Lord God slays you,
and calls his servants by another name.
16 Whoever invokes a blessing in the land
shall bless by the God of truth;[e]
Whoever takes an oath in the land
shall swear by the God of truth;
For the hardships of the past shall be forgotten
and hidden from my eyes.
A World Renewed
17 [f]See, I am creating new heavens
and a new earth;
The former things shall not be remembered
nor come to mind.(E)
18 Instead, shout for joy and be glad forever
in what I am creating.
Indeed, I am creating Jerusalem to be a joy
and its people to be a delight;
19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem
and exult in my people.
No longer shall the sound of weeping be heard there,
or the sound of crying;
20 No longer shall there be in it
an infant who lives but a few days,
nor anyone who does not live a full lifetime;
One who dies at a hundred years shall be considered a youth,
and one who falls short of a hundred shall be thought accursed.(F)
21 They shall build houses and live in them,
they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit;
22 They shall not build and others live there;
they shall not plant and others eat.
As the years of a tree, so the years of my people;
and my chosen ones shall long enjoy
the work of their hands.
23 They shall not toil in vain,
nor beget children for sudden destruction;
For they shall be a people blessed by the Lord
and their descendants with them.
24 Before they call, I will answer;
while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
25 [g]The wolf and the lamb shall pasture together,
and the lion shall eat hay like the ox—
but the serpent’s food shall be dust.(G)
None shall harm or destroy
on all my holy mountain, says the Lord.

- 65:1–7 These verses serve as a response to the preceding questions about God’s inaction (64:6, 11). It is not God who has been absent, but the people who have walked away from God by idolatrous acts and rituals (vv. 3–4). That is the reason for their punishment (vv. 6–7).
- 65:5 Render you holy: unclean food is what these people claim has made them sacred! The prophet ridicules them. Sacredness was understood as something communicable (cf. Ex 19:9–15).
- 65:8 This verse reflects the remnant theology found elsewhere in the Book of Isaiah: 1:8–9; 4:3; 6:11–13; etc.
- 65:11–12 Destiny: the play on words is found in the Hebrew, in which “destiny” and “destine” are menî and manîthî.
- 65:16 God of truth: lit., “God of Amen,” i.e., the one who keeps his word.
- 65:17–18 The new creation (cf. 66:22) is described with apocalyptic exuberance: long life, material prosperity, and so forth. As the former events in 43:18 are to be forgotten, so also the new creation wipes out memory of the first creation.
- 65:25 The imagery reflects the ideal era described in 11:6–9; see note there.

65 “I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me;
I was found by those who did not seek me.(A)
To a nation(B) that did not call on my name,(C)
I said, ‘Here am I, here am I.’
2 All day long I have held out my hands
to an obstinate people,(D)
who walk in ways not good,
pursuing their own imaginations(E)—
3 a people who continually provoke me
to my very face,(F)
offering sacrifices in gardens(G)
and burning incense(H) on altars of brick;
4 who sit among the graves(I)
and spend their nights keeping secret vigil;
who eat the flesh of pigs,(J)
and whose pots hold broth of impure meat;
5 who say, ‘Keep away; don’t come near me,
for I am too sacred(K) for you!’
Such people are smoke(L) in my nostrils,
a fire that keeps burning all day.
6 “See, it stands written before me:
I will not keep silent(M) but will pay back(N) in full;
I will pay it back into their laps(O)—
7 both your sins(P) and the sins of your ancestors,”(Q)
says the Lord.
“Because they burned sacrifices on the mountains
and defied me on the hills,(R)
I will measure into their laps
the full payment(S) for their former deeds.”
8 This is what the Lord says:
“As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes(T)
and people say, ‘Don’t destroy it,
there is still a blessing in it,’
so will I do in behalf of my servants;(U)
I will not destroy them all.
9 I will bring forth descendants(V) from Jacob,
and from Judah those who will possess(W) my mountains;
my chosen(X) people will inherit them,
and there will my servants live.(Y)
10 Sharon(Z) will become a pasture for flocks,(AA)
and the Valley of Achor(AB) a resting place for herds,
for my people who seek(AC) me.
11 “But as for you who forsake(AD) the Lord
and forget my holy mountain,(AE)
who spread a table for Fortune
and fill bowls of mixed wine(AF) for Destiny,
12 I will destine you for the sword,(AG)
and all of you will fall in the slaughter;(AH)
for I called but you did not answer,(AI)
I spoke but you did not listen.(AJ)
You did evil in my sight
and chose what displeases me.”(AK)
13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“My servants will eat,(AL)
but you will go hungry;(AM)
my servants will drink,(AN)
but you will go thirsty;(AO)
my servants will rejoice,(AP)
but you will be put to shame.(AQ)
14 My servants will sing(AR)
out of the joy of their hearts,
but you will cry out(AS)
from anguish of heart
and wail in brokenness of spirit.
15 You will leave your name
for my chosen ones to use in their curses;(AT)
the Sovereign Lord will put you to death,
but to his servants he will give another name.(AU)
16 Whoever invokes a blessing(AV) in the land
will do so by the one true God;(AW)
whoever takes an oath in the land
will swear(AX) by the one true God.
For the past troubles(AY) will be forgotten
and hidden from my eyes.
New Heavens and a New Earth
17 “See, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.(AZ)
The former things will not be remembered,(BA)
nor will they come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice(BB) forever
in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem(BC) to be a delight
and its people a joy.
19 I will rejoice(BD) over Jerusalem
and take delight(BE) in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying(BF)
will be heard in it no more.
20 “Never again will there be in it
an infant(BG) who lives but a few days,
or an old man who does not live out his years;(BH)
the one who dies at a hundred
will be thought a mere child;
the one who fails to reach[a] a hundred
will be considered accursed.
21 They will build houses(BI) and dwell in them;
they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.(BJ)
22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them,(BK)
or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree,(BL)
so will be the days(BM) of my people;
my chosen(BN) ones will long enjoy
the work of their hands.
23 They will not labor in vain,(BO)
nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune;(BP)
for they will be a people blessed(BQ) by the Lord,
they and their descendants(BR) with them.
24 Before they call(BS) I will answer;(BT)
while they are still speaking(BU) I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb(BV) will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox,(BW)
and dust will be the serpent’s(BX) food.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,”(BY)
says the Lord.
