Thượng Đế sẽ trừng phạt các kẻ thù Ngài
34 Hỡi các dân, hãy đến gần nghe.
Hỡi các dân hãy chú ý!
Đất và mọi người trên đất hãy lắng tai,
thế gian và mọi vật trong đó cũng vậy.
2 CHÚA nổi giận cùng các dân;
Ngài nổi thịnh nộ cùng quân đội của họ.
Ngài sẽ tiêu diệt và giết hết tất cả.
3 Thây chúng nó sẽ bị ném ra ngoài.
Mùi hôi thúi sẽ xông lên từ các xác chết,
và huyết sẽ chảy ròng ròng xuống núi.
4 Mặt trời, mặt trăng, và các ngôi sao sẽ tiêu tan,
và bầu trời sẽ cuốn lại như quyển sách [a].
Các ngôi sao [b] sẽ rơi như lá úa rụng xuống
từ dây nho hay trái vả khô rơi xuống khỏi cây vả.
5 Gươm của Chúa trên trời dính đầy máu.
Nó sẽ chặt qua Ê-đôm và sẽ tiêu diệt hết dân đó
làm của lễ dâng lên cho CHÚA [c].
6 Gươm của Chúa sẽ vấy máu;
gươm đó sẽ dính đầy mỡ,
cùng máu của chiên con và dê,
với mỡ của các trái cật của dê đực [d].
Vì CHÚA đã muốn rằng sẽ có sinh tế ở Bốt-ra [e]
và sẽ có giết chóc lớn ở Ê-đôm.
7 Trâu rừng sẽ bị giết,
cùng với các bò đực mạnh mẽ.
Cả xứ sẽ đầy máu chúng nó,
và đất sẽ ngập mỡ của chúng nó.
8 CHÚA đã chọn thì giờ báo thù.
Ngài đã chọn năm mà dân chúng phải trả giá
về những điều ác chúng làm nghịch lại Xi-ôn.
9 Các sông Ê-đôm sẽ giống như nhựa nóng.
Đất nó sẽ như lưu hoàng đang cháy.
Xứ nó sẽ như nhựa cháy.
10 Lửa sẽ cháy cả ngày lẫn đêm;
khói sẽ bốc lên từ Ê-đôm cho đến đời đời.
Thế hệ nầy sang thế hệ khác, đất sẽ hoang vu;
Chẳng còn ai qua lại xứ đó nữa.
11 Chim chóc và các thú nhỏ sẽ chiếm đất ấy,
chim cú và quạ sẽ sống ở đó.
Dân chúng sẽ gọi nơi ấy là “Sa mạc Hoang Vu.” [f]
12 Các kẻ quyền quí [g] sẽ chẳng còn ai mà cai trị;
các lãnh tụ sẽ không còn.
13 Gai gốc sẽ mọc choán hết các tháp canh,
và các bụi cỏ dại sẽ mọc trên các thành có vách.
Nó sẽ trở thành nơi ở của chó sói
và chỗ trú ngụ của chim đà điểu.
14 Muông thú trong sa mạc
sẽ sống chung với chó rừng [h],
và dê hoang [i] sẽ kêu nhau nơi đó.
Các loài thú sống ban đêm [j]
sẽ lấy nơi đó làm chỗ ở
và dùng đất đó làm chỗ nghỉ ngơi.
15 Rắn sống trên cây sẽ làm tổ
và đẻ trứng ở đó.
Khi trứng nở, rắn mẹ sẽ ấp con mình
dưới bóng của nó.
Kên kên sẽ tụ lại từng đoàn.
16 Hãy nhìn cuốn sách của Chúa
và đọc những lời viết bên trong:
Sẽ không thiếu con nào;
con nào cũng có đôi có cặp.
Thượng Đế đã ra lệnh,
cho nên Thần linh Ngài tập họp chúng lại.
17 Thượng Đế đã chia đất cho chúng,
Ngài đã ban cho mỗi con một phần.
Để chúng chiếm hữu đất đó đời đời
và sẽ cư ngụ ở đó,
từ thế hệ nầy sang thế hệ khác.

Judgment on the Nations
34 Draw near, (A)O nations, to hear,
and give attention, O peoples!
Let the earth hear, and all that fills it;
the world, and all that comes from it.
2 For the Lord is enraged against all the nations,
and furious against all their host;
he has (B)devoted them to destruction,[a] has given them over for slaughter.
3 Their slain shall be cast out,
and (C)the stench of their corpses shall rise;
(D)the mountains shall flow with their blood.
4 (E)All the host of heaven shall rot away,
and the skies roll up like a scroll.
All their host shall fall,
as leaves fall from the vine,
like leaves falling from the fig tree.
5 For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens;
behold, it descends for judgment upon (F)Edom,
upon the people (G)I have devoted to destruction.
6 The Lord has a sword; it is sated with blood;
it is gorged with fat,
with the blood of lambs and goats,
with the fat of the kidneys of rams.
(H)For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
7 (I)Wild oxen shall (J)fall with them,
and (K)young steers with (L)the mighty bulls.
Their land shall drink its fill of blood,
and their soil shall be gorged with fat.
8 (M)For the Lord has a day of vengeance,
a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
9 (N)And the streams of Edom[b] shall be turned into pitch,
and her soil into sulfur;
her land shall become burning pitch.
10 Night and day (O)it shall not be quenched;
(P)its smoke shall go up forever.
(Q)From generation to generation it shall lie waste;
none shall pass through it forever and ever.
11 (R)But the hawk and the porcupine[c] shall possess it,
the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
(S)He shall stretch the line of (T)confusion[d] over it,
and the plumb line of emptiness.
12 Its nobles—there is no one there to call it a kingdom,
and all its princes shall be nothing.
13 (U)Thorns shall grow over its strongholds,
nettles and thistles in its fortresses.
It shall be the haunt of (V)jackals,
an abode for ostriches.[e]
14 (W)And wild animals shall meet with hyenas;
the wild goat shall cry to his fellow;
indeed, there the night bird[f] settles
and finds for herself a resting place.
15 There the owl nests and lays
and hatches and gathers her young in her shadow;
indeed, there (X)the hawks are gathered,
each one with her mate.
16 Seek and read from the book of the Lord:
Not one of these shall be missing;
none shall be without her mate.
For the mouth of the Lord has commanded,
and his Spirit has gathered them.
17 (Y)He has cast the lot for them;
his hand has portioned it out to them with the line;
they shall possess it forever;
from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.

34 Come (A)near, you nations, to hear;
And heed, you people!
(B)Let the earth hear, and all that is in it,
The world and all things that come forth from it.
2 For the indignation of the Lord is against all nations,
And His fury against all their armies;
He has utterly destroyed them,
He has given them over to the (C)slaughter.
3 Also their slain shall be thrown out;
(D)Their stench shall rise from their corpses,
And the mountains shall be melted with their blood.
4 (E)All the host of heaven shall be dissolved,
And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll;
(F)All their host shall fall down
As the leaf falls from the vine,
And as (G)fruit falling from a fig tree.
5 “For (H)My sword shall be bathed in heaven;
Indeed it (I)shall come down on Edom,
And on the people of My curse, for judgment.
6 The (J)sword of the Lord is filled with blood,
It is made [a]overflowing with fatness,
With the blood of lambs and goats,
With the fat of the kidneys of rams.
For (K)the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
7 The wild oxen shall come down with them,
And the young bulls with the mighty bulls;
Their land shall be soaked with blood,
And their dust [b]saturated with fatness.”
8 For it is the day of the Lord’s (L)vengeance,
The year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
9 (M)Its streams shall be turned into pitch,
And its dust into brimstone;
Its land shall become burning pitch.
10 It shall not be quenched night or day;
(N)Its smoke shall ascend forever.
(O)From generation to generation it shall lie waste;
No one shall pass through it forever and ever.
11 (P)But the [c]pelican and the [d]porcupine shall possess it,
Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
And (Q)He shall stretch out over it
The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.
12 They shall call its nobles to the kingdom,
But none shall be there, and all its princes shall be nothing.
13 And (R)thorns shall come up in its palaces,
Nettles and brambles in its fortresses;
(S)It shall be a habitation of jackals,
A courtyard for ostriches.
14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the [e]jackals,
And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion;
Also [f]the night creature shall rest there,
And find for herself a place of rest.
15 There the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs
And hatch, and gather them under her shadow;
There also shall the hawks be gathered,
Every one with her mate.
16 “Search from (T)the book of the Lord, and read:
Not one of these shall fail;
Not one shall lack her mate.
For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.
17 He has cast the lot for them,
And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line.
They shall possess it forever;
From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”
