18 Jonathan said to him, “Tomorrow is the new moon; you will be missed, because your place will be empty. 19 On the day after tomorrow, you shall go a long way down; go to the place where you hid yourself earlier, and remain beside the stone there.[a] 20 I will shoot three arrows to the side of it, as though I shot at a mark. 21 Then I will send the boy, saying, ‘Go, find the arrows.’ If I say to the boy, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you, collect them,’ then you are to come, for, as the Lord lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger. 22 But if I say to the young man, ‘Look, the arrows are beyond you,’ then go; for the Lord has sent you away. 23 As for the matter about which you and I have spoken, the Lord is witness[b] between you and me forever.”
24 So David hid himself in the field. When the new moon came, the king sat at the feast to eat. 25 The king sat upon his seat, as at other times, upon the seat by the wall. Jonathan stood, while Abner sat by Saul’s side; but David’s place was empty.
26 Saul did not say anything that day; for he thought, “Something has befallen him; he is not clean, surely he is not clean.” 27 But on the second day, the day after the new moon, David’s place was empty. And Saul said to his son Jonathan, “Why has the son of Jesse not come to the feast, either yesterday or today?” 28 Jonathan answered Saul, “David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem; 29 he said, ‘Let me go; for our family is holding a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has commanded me to be there. So now, if I have found favor in your sight, let me get away, and see my brothers.’ For this reason he has not come to the king’s table.”
30 Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan. He said to him, “You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness? 31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.” 32 Then Jonathan answered his father Saul, “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” 33 But Saul threw his spear at him to strike him; so Jonathan knew that it was the decision of his father to put David to death. 34 Jonathan rose from the table in fierce anger and ate no food on the second day of the month, for he was grieved for David, and because his father had disgraced him.
35 In the morning Jonathan went out into the field to the appointment with David, and with him was a little boy. 36 He said to the boy, “Run and find the arrows that I shoot.” As the boy ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. 37 When the boy came to the place where Jonathan’s arrow had fallen, Jonathan called after the boy and said, “Is the arrow not beyond you?” 38 Jonathan called after the boy, “Hurry, be quick, do not linger.” So Jonathan’s boy gathered up the arrows and came to his master. 39 But the boy knew nothing; only Jonathan and David knew the arrangement. 40 Jonathan gave his weapons to the boy and said to him, “Go and carry them to the city.” 41 As soon as the boy had gone, David rose from beside the stone heap[c] and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. He bowed three times, and they kissed each other, and wept with each other; David wept the more.[d] 42 Then Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, since both of us have sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord shall be between me and you, and between my descendants and your descendants, forever.’” He got up and left; and Jonathan went into the city.[e]

Se dico al ragazzo: “Guarda, le frecce sono di qua da te, prendile!”, tu allora vieni, perché tutto va bene per te e non hai nulla da temere, come il Signore vive! 22 Ma se dico al giovane: “Guarda, le frecce sono di là da te!”, allora vattene, perché il Signore ti manda via. 23 Quanto a quel che abbiamo convenuto tu e io, ecco, il Signore ne è testimone per sempre».
24 Davide dunque si nascose nella campagna; e quando venne il novilunio, il re si mise a tavola per mangiare. 25 Il re, come al solito, si sedette sulla sedia che era vicina al muro; Gionatan si mise di fronte. Abner si sedette accanto a Saul, ma il posto di Davide rimase vuoto. 26 Tuttavia Saul non disse nulla quel giorno, perché pensava: «Gli è successo qualcosa per cui non è puro; certo egli non è puro». 27 Ma l’indomani, il secondo giorno della luna nuova, il posto di Davide era ancora vuoto; allora Saul disse a Gionatan suo figlio: «Perché il figlio d’Isai non è venuto a mangiare né ieri né oggi?» 28 Gionatan rispose a Saul: «Davide mi ha chiesto con insistenza di lasciarlo andare a Betlemme; 29 e ha detto: “Ti prego, lasciami andare, perché abbiamo in città un sacrificio di famiglia e mio fratello mi ha raccomandato di andarvi; ora dunque, se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, ti prego, lasciami fare una corsa per andare a vedere i miei fratelli”. Per questa ragione egli non è venuto alla mensa del re». 30 Allora l’ira di Saul si accese contro Gionatan, e gli disse: «Figlio perverso e ribelle, non so io forse che tu prendi le difese del figlio d’Isai, a tua vergogna e a vergogna di tua madre? 31 Poiché fintanto che il figlio d’Isai avrà vita sulla terra non vi sarà stabilità per te né per il tuo regno. Dunque mandalo a cercare e fallo venire da me, perché deve morire». 32 Gionatan rispose a Saul suo padre e gli disse: «Perché dovrebbe morire? Che ha fatto?» 33 Saul brandì la lancia contro di lui per colpirlo. 35 La mattina dopo, Gionatan andò nei campi a incontrare Davide, e aveva con sé un ragazzo. 36 Disse al ragazzo: «Corri a cercare le frecce che tiro». Mentre il ragazzo correva, tirò una freccia che passò di là da lui. 37 Quando il ragazzo fu giunto al luogo dov’era la freccia che Gionatan aveva tirata, Gionatan gli gridò dietro: «La freccia non è forse di là da te?» 38 Gionatan gridò ancora dietro al ragazzo: «Via, fa’ presto, non ti trattenere!» Il ragazzo raccolse le frecce e tornò dal suo padrone. 39 Or il ragazzo non sapeva nulla; Gionatan e Davide erano i soli a sapere di che si trattava. 40 Gionatan diede le sue armi al ragazzo e gli disse: «Va’, portale in città». 41 E come il ragazzo se ne fu andato, Davide si alzò dal lato sud, si gettò con la faccia a terra e si prostrò tre volte; poi i due si baciarono e piansero insieme; Davide soprattutto pianse a dirotto. 42 Gionatan disse a Davide: «Va’ in pace, ora che abbiamo fatto tutti e due questo giuramento nel nome del Signore. 19 Am dritten Tag aber komm rasch herab und begib dich an den Ort, wo du dich am Tag der Tat verborgen hattest, und bleibe neben dem Stein Asel.
20 Ich aber will drei Pfeile daran vorbeischießen, als ob ich nach einem Ziel schießen würde.
21 Und siehe, dann werde ich den Burschen schicken: »Geh, suche die Pfeile!« Rufe ich dann dem Burschen zu: »Siehe, die Pfeile liegen diesseits von dir, hole sie!«, so komm; denn das bedeutet Frieden für dich und keine Gefahr, so wahr der Herr lebt.
22 Wenn ich aber zu dem jungen Mann sage: »Siehe, die Pfeile liegen jenseits von dir!«, so geh; denn dann sendet dich der Herr fort.
23 Von dem aber, was wir beredet haben, ich und du, siehe, davon ist der Herr [Zeuge] zwischen dir und mir ewiglich!
24 So verbarg sich David auf dem Feld. Als aber der Neumond kam, setzte sich der König zum Mahl, um zu essen.
25 Und zwar saß der König an seinem gewohnten Platz an der Wand; Jonathan aber stand auf, und Abner setzte sich neben Saul; und Davids Platz blieb leer.
26 Saul aber sagte an diesem Tag nichts; denn er dachte: Es ist ein Zufall; er ist nicht rein; gewiss ist er nicht rein!
27 Es geschah aber am Tag nach dem Neumond, als Davids Platz wieder leer blieb, dass Saul seinen Sohn Jonathan fragte: Warum ist der Sohn Isais weder gestern noch heute zum Essen gekommen?
28 Da antwortete Jonathan dem Saul: David hat mich dringend gebeten, nach Bethlehem gehen zu dürfen;
29 und er sagte: Lass mich doch hingehen; denn wir halten ein Familienopfer in der Stadt, und mein Bruder selbst hat es mir geboten; habe ich nun Gnade vor deinen Augen gefunden, so gib mir doch Urlaub, dass ich meine Brüder sehen kann! Darum ist er nicht an den Tisch des Königs gekommen.
30 Da entbrannte Sauls Zorn gegen Jonathan, und er sprach zu ihm: Du missratener, widerspenstiger Sohn! Meinst du, ich wüsste nicht, dass du den Sohn Isais erwählt hast, zu deiner Schande und zur Scham und Schande deiner Mutter?
31 Denn solange der Sohn Isais auf Erden lebt, kannst weder du bestehen noch dein Königtum! So sende nun hin und lass ihn herbringen zu mir; denn er ist ein Kind des Todes!
32 Und Jonathan antwortete seinem Vater Saul und sprach zu ihm: Warum soll er sterben? Was hat er getan?
33 Da warf Saul den Speer nach ihm, um ihn zu durchbohren. Da erkannte Jonathan, dass es bei seinem Vater fest beschlossen war, David zu töten.
34 Und Jonathan stand vom Tisch auf in glühendem Zorn und aß an jenem zweiten Tag des Neumonds keine Speise; denn es tat ihm weh um Davids willen, weil sein Vater ihn beschimpft hatte.
35 Und es geschah am Morgen, da ging Jonathan aufs Feld hinaus, zu der mit David verabredeten Zeit, und ein junger Bursche war mit ihm.
36 Und er sprach zu seinem Burschen: Lauf, suche doch die Pfeile, die ich abschieße! Als nun der Bursche lief, schoss er einen Pfeil über ihn weg.
37 Und als der Bursche zu der Stelle lief, wohin Jonathan den Pfeil geschossen hatte, rief ihm Jonathan nach und sprach: Liegt nicht der Pfeil jenseits von dir?
38 Und Jonathan rief dem Burschen und sprach: »Schnell! Beeile dich! Steh nicht still!« Und Jonathans Bursche hob den Pfeil auf und brachte ihn zu seinem Herrn.
39 Doch wusste der Bursche von nichts; nur Jonathan und David wussten um die Sache.
40 Da gab Jonathan dem Burschen, der bei ihm war, seine Waffen und sprach zu ihm: Geh und bringe sie in die Stadt!
41 Sobald nun der Bursche weg war, erhob sich David von der südlichen Seite her und fiel auf sein Angesicht und verneigte sich dreimal; danach küssten sie einander und weinten zusammen, David aber am allermeisten.
42 Und Jonathan sprach zu David: Geh hin in Frieden! Wie wir beide im Namen des Herrn geschworen und gesagt haben, so sei der Herr [Zeuge] zwischen mir und dir, zwischen meinem Samen und deinem Samen ewiglich!

Te pedig menj el arra a helyre, ahol először elrejtőztél! Ott várakozz, annál a kőrakásnál. 20 Akkor majd én is odamegyek, és három nyílvesszőt fogok kilőni, mintha csak célba lőnék. 21 Velem lesz egy fiatal apród is, akinek ezt mondom: »Eredj, keresd meg a nyílvesszőket!«
A te számodra, Dávid, ez lesz a jel: ha azt mondom a fiúnak: »Túl messze mentél, a nyílvesszők itt vannak, hozzám közelebb!« — akkor az Örökkévalóra esküszöm, ez azt jelenti, hogy nyugodtan előjöhetsz a rejtekhelyedről, mert biztonságban vagy! 22 Azonban, ha azt mondom a fiúnak: »Menj csak messzebbre, mert a nyílvesszők még előtted vannak!« — ez azt jelenti, hogy el kell menned messzire, mert az Örökkévaló küld téged máshová. 23 Amit most megbeszéltünk, arra nézve az Örökkévaló legyen a tanúnk örökre!”
24 Ezután elváltak, és Dávid elrejtőzött a városon kívül.
Saul elárulja gyilkos szándékát
Amikor az Újhold ünnepe eljött, a király helyet foglalt az ünnepi étkezésnél. 25 Szokott helyén ült, a fal mellett. Vele szemben[a] Jonatán, Saul mellett pedig Abner foglalt helyet, de Dávid helye üresen maradt. 26 Ekkor Saul még nem szólt semmit, mert ezt gondolta: „Biztosan történt valami Dáviddal, és rituálisan tisztátalanná vált, emiatt nem vehetett részt az ünnepen. Igen, biztosan ezért nem jött el.”
27 A következő napon, vagyis az ünnep második napján azonban Dávid helye ismét üresen maradt. Ekkor Saul megkérdezte Jonatánt: „Miért nem jött el az ünnepre Isai fia sem tegnap, sem ma?”
28 Jonatán így felelt: „Dávid engedélyt kért tőlem, hogy hazamehessen Betlehembe. 29 Azt mondta: »Kérlek, hadd menjek most haza a szüleimhez, mert ilyenkor tartjuk Betlehemben a nemzetségünk évenkénti közös áldozatát, és a bátyám rám parancsolt, hogy nekem is ott a helyem. Engedj el tehát, ha jóindulattal vagy irántam, hadd látogassam meg a családomat!« Emiatt nem jött Dávid a király asztalához.”
30 Saul ekkor éktelen haragra gerjedt, és Jonatánra támadt: „Te is olyan lázadó és elvetemült vagy, mint anyád! Azt hiszed, nem tudom, hogy összejátszol Isai fiával! Micsoda szégyen ez rád nézve! Gyalázatot hozol anyádra is! 31 Tudd meg, hogy amíg Isai fia él, belőled sohasem lesz király, és királyságodból sem lesz semmi! Azonnal küldj érte, és hozasd elém, mert meg kell halnia!”
32 „De miért kell meghalnia, mit követett el?” — kérdezte Jonatán.
33-34 Válasz helyett Saul Jonatán felé hajította a lándzsáját, hogy megölje. Jonatán azonban felugrott az asztaltól és nagy haraggal elrohant. Nem evett egy falatot sem az ünnep második napján, mivel annyira bánkódott Dávid miatt, és mert apja így megszégyenítette. Azonban megértette, hogy Saul valóban Dávid életére tör.
Jonatán és Dávid elbúcsúznak egymástól
35 Másnap reggel a megbeszélt időben Jonatán, apródja kíséretében kiment a városból. 36 Amikor arra a helyre ért, ahol Dávid rejtőzött, előre küldte a fiút. „Szaladj, keresd meg a nyilakat, amelyeket lövök!” — mondta neki, és előre lőtt egy nyílvesszőt a fiú feje fölött. 37 Amikor a fiú oda ért, ahová Jonatán a nyílvesszőt lőtte, még utána kiáltott: „Menj messzebbre, mert még előtted van! 38 Siess, menj tovább, ne állj meg!” A fiú fölvette a nyilakat, és visszavitte Jonatánnak, 39 de nem vett észre semmit, csak Jonatán és Dávid értette, hogy ez mit jelent. 40 Majd Jonatán odaadta a fiúnak az íját meg a nyilakat, és visszaküldte a városba.

18 Jonathan reprit : Demain, c’est la fête de la nouvelle lune, on remarquera ton absence à table, car ta place restera vide. 19 Après-demain, tu descendras vite jusqu’à l’endroit où tu t’étais caché le jour où tout cela a commencé ; tu te tiendras près de la pierre d’Ezel. 20 Je viendrai et je tirerai trois flèches dans cette direction, sur une cible que j’aurai choisie, 21 puis j’enverrai mon jeune serviteur les chercher. Si je lui crie : « Regarde, les flèches sont derrière toi, reviens les ramasser ! » alors tu peux revenir, car tout va bien pour toi. Aussi vrai que l’Eternel est vivant, tu n’auras rien à craindre. 22 Mais si je crie au jeune homme : « Va plus loin, les flèches sont plus loin que toi ! » alors pars, car l’Eternel te fait partir. 23 Mais l’Eternel restera à jamais le garant pour moi et toi de notre engagement l’un envers l’autre.
Saül est résolu à faire mourir David
24 David alla donc se cacher dans la campagne. Le soir de la célébration de la nouvelle lune, le roi se mit à table pour le repas. 25 Il s’assit comme d’habitude sur le siège adossé au mur qui lui était réservé. Jonathan se mit en face[a], et Abner[b] à côté de lui. La place de David resta vide. 26 Saül ne fit aucune remarque ce jour-là. Il pensait qu’il avait dû contracter accidentellement quelque impureté rituelle.
– Certainement il n’est pas pur, se disait-il[c].
27 Mais le second jour de la nouvelle lune, comme la place de David restait encore inoccupée, Saül demanda à son fils Jonathan : Pourquoi le fils d’Isaï n’est-il pas venu au repas ni hier, ni aujourd’hui ?
28 Jonathan répondit à Saül : David m’a demandé avec insistance la permission d’aller jusqu’à Bethléhem. 29 Il m’a dit : « Laisse-moi partir, je te prie, car nous devons célébrer un sacrifice de famille à la ville, et mon frère m’a ordonné d’y assister. Veuille donc m’accorder la faveur de pouvoir m’absenter pour voir mes frères. » C’est pour cela qu’il n’est pas venu à la table du roi.
30 Alors Saül se mit en colère contre Jonathan et lui cria : Fils de chienne, fils de rebelle ! Crois-tu que je ne sais pas que tu as pris parti pour le fils d’Isaï, à ta honte et à celle de ta mère ? 31 Aussi longtemps que le fils d’Isaï sera en vie, tu ne pourras pas t’imposer ni établir ta royauté. C’est pourquoi, fais-le chercher et ordonne qu’on me l’amène sans retard, car il mérite la mort.
32 Jonathan répliqua à Saül son père : Pourquoi devrait-il mourir ? Qu’a-t-il fait ?
33 Alors Saül brandit sa lance contre lui pour le frapper. Jonathan comprit que son père avait fermement décidé de faire mourir David. 34 Il se leva de table dans une grande colère et ne mangea rien ce jour-là, car il était trop affligé à cause de la manière injurieuse dont son père avait traité David.
Jonathan prévient David des intentions hostiles de son père
35 Le lendemain matin, Jonathan se rendit dans la campagne à l’endroit convenu avec David. Un jeune serviteur l’accompagnait. 36 Il lui dit : Cours ramasser les flèches que je vais tirer !
Le garçon courut en avant et Jonathan tira une flèche au-delà du garçon. 37 Quand le serviteur s’approcha de l’endroit où la flèche s’était plantée, Jonathan lui cria : La flèche n’est-elle pas plus loin que toi ? 38 Vite, dépêche-toi ! Ne reste pas là !
Le serviteur de Jonathan ramassa la flèche et revint vers son maître 39 sans se douter de rien. Seuls Jonathan et David comprenaient la chose. 40 Jonathan remit son arc et ses flèches à son serviteur et lui dit : Va les rapporter dans la ville !
41 Après son départ, David sortit de sa cachette du côté du sud et se prosterna trois fois devant Jonathan, le visage contre terre, puis ils s’embrassèrent longuement en pleurant, David encore plus que Jonathan. 42 Alors Jonathan lui dit : Va en paix, puisque nous nous sommes engagés l’un envers l’autre par serment au nom de l’Eternel en disant : Que l’Eternel soit garant entre toi et moi, entre tes descendants et les miens, à tout jamais.
