2 An-na cầu nguyện rằng:
“CHÚA ban cho lòng tôi đầy niềm hân hoan;
Tôi cảm thấy mạnh mẽ [a] trong Ngài.
Tôi dám cười kẻ thù tôi [b];
Tôi hớn hở vì Ngài giúp tôi!
2 Không có ai thánh thiện như CHÚA,
Không có thần nào ngoài Thượng Đế;
Không có Khối Đá nào như Thượng Đế chúng ta.
3 Đừng mãi khoác lác,
chớ nên nói những lời tự phụ.
CHÚA là Thượng Đế, Đấng biết mọi điều,
Ngài cân nhắc từng hành vi con người.
4 Cung của chiến sĩ có thể gãy,
nhưng kẻ yếu lại trở nên mạnh.
5 Những kẻ trước kia no đủ
nay phải làm lụng mới có ăn,
nhưng người trước kia bị đói khổ
nay lại được no đủ.
Người đàn bà trước kia không con
nay sinh bảy,
Còn người đàn bà có đông con
nay trở nên buồn thảm.
6 CHÚA sai sự chết,
và mang sự sống đến.
Ngài đưa người ta xuống huyệt,
Rồi khiến họ sống dậy.
7 CHÚA làm cho một số người trở nên nghèo khó,
và kẻ khác được giàu có.
Ngài hạ một số người xuống
và nâng kẻ khác lên.
8 CHÚA nhấc kẻ nghèo dậy khỏi bụi đất,
và nâng người khốn cùng lên từ đống tro [c].
Ngài để kẻ nghèo ngồi chung với quan trưởng
và nhận ngôi vinh dự.
Nền trái đất thuộc về CHÚA,
Ngài đặt thế giới trên nền đó.
9 Ngài bảo vệ những kẻ trung tín với Ngài,
nhưng kẻ ác phải nín lặng trong bóng tối.
Quyền hành không phải là bí quyết của thành công.
10 CHÚA tiêu diệt kẻ thù mình;
Từ trời Ngài làm sấm rền nghịch lại chúng.
CHÚA sẽ phân xử cả đất.
Ngài sẽ ban quyền lực cho vua Ngài
và khiến vua mà Ngài bổ nhiệm [d] được vững mạnh.”
Các con trai gian ác của Hê-li
11 Rồi Ên-ca-na trở về nhà ở Ra-ma còn cậu bé Sa-mu-ên ở lại phục vụ CHÚA dưới quyền của thầy tế lễ Hê-li.
12 Các con Hê-li rất gian ác; chúng nó chẳng hề biết CHÚA. 13 Chúng thường làm như sau: Mỗi khi có ai mang của lễ đến thì thịt thường được nấu trong nồi. Một đứa đầy tớ của thầy tế lễ đến cầm cái chĩa ba. 14 Nó thọc cái chĩa vào trong nồi. Hễ móc lên được miếng thịt nào thì thầy tế lễ lấy miếng đó. Họ đối xử với dân chúng đi đến Si-lô dâng của lễ như thế. 15 Có khi ngay cả trước khi thiêu mỡ, đầy tớ của thầy tế lễ đến bảo người dâng của lễ rằng, “Đưa cho thầy tế lễ một miếng thịt để nướng. Ông ta không chịu lấy thịt chín đâu, chỉ muốn thịt sống thôi.”
16 Nếu người dâng của lễ bảo, “Đợi thiêu mỡ [e] trước rồi sau đó anh muốn lấy gì thì lấy,” thì đầy tớ bảo, “Không, đưa tôi thịt sống ngay bây giờ, bằng không tôi giật đó.”
17 CHÚA thấy tội lỗi của các tên đầy tớ thật quá lắm vì chúng không kính trọng của lễ dâng lên cho Ngài.
Sa-mu-ên khôn lớn
18 Nhưng Sa-mu-ên vâng lời CHÚA. Lúc còn nhỏ, Sa-mu-ên mặc một áo cánh bằng vải. 19 Mỗi năm mẹ Sa-mu-ên may cho cậu một cái áo choàng nhỏ lúc nàng đi lên Si-lô với chồng để dâng của lễ. 20 Khi Hê-li chúc phước cho Ên-ca-na và vợ, ông nói, “Cầu CHÚA đền đáp lại cho ngươi, ban cho ngươi nhiều con qua An-na để thay thế cho đứa trẻ mà nàng đã cầu xin và dâng cho CHÚA.” 21 CHÚA tỏ lòng nhân từ với An-na, cho nên nàng sinh thêm ba con trai và hai con gái nữa, còn cậu bé Sa-mu-ên lớn lên phục vụ CHÚA.
Ê-li không kiểm soát được hai con của mình
22 Lúc đó Hê-li đã già lắm. Ông nghe biết hết những chuyện các con mình làm cho toàn dân Ít-ra-en cùng chuyện chúng nó ăn nằm với các phụ nữ phục vụ nơi cửa Lều Họp. 23 Hê-li hỏi các con, “Tại sao chúng bay làm chuyện bậy bạ mà người ta kể cho tao nghe vậy? 24 Không được đâu, các con! Dân sự CHÚA đã đồn tiếng xấu về các con. 25 Nếu các con phạm tội cùng người khác, CHÚA có thể tha thứ được. Còn nếu các con phạm tội cùng CHÚA, thì sẽ không ai tha thứ được đâu!” Nhưng các con Hê-li không thèm nghe cha mình vì CHÚA nhất định giết chúng nó.
26 Cậu bé Sa-mu-ên khôn lớn. Cậu làm vui lòng CHÚA và dân chúng.
Lời tiên tri đáng sợ về gia đình Hê-li
27 Có một người của Thượng Đế đến bảo Hê-li, “CHÚA phán như sau: Ta hiện ra cùng gia đình của tổ tiên [f] ngươi là A-rôn khi họ còn là nô lệ cho vua Ai-cập. 28 Ta đã chọn họ từ trong các chi tộc Ít-ra-en để làm thầy tế lễ cho ta. Ta muốn họ đi đến bàn thờ ta, dâng hương, và mặc áo ngắn thánh. Ta cũng để cho gia đình tổ tiên ngươi có phần trong các của lễ do dân Ít-ra-en cung hiến. 29 Sao ngươi khinh thường các của lễ dân chúng mang đến cho ta mà trọng các con mình hơn ta? Ngươi hành động như thế khi chiếm lấy cho mình những phần tốt nhất trong số thịt dân Ít-ra-en đem đến cho ta.
30 Cho nên CHÚA là Thượng Đế của Ít-ra-en phán: ‘Thật thế, ta đã hứa rằng gia đình ngươi và gia đình tổ tiên ngươi sẽ mãi mãi phục vụ ta.’ Nhưng bây giờ CHÚA phán: Chuyện đó sẽ không còn nữa! Ta tôn trọng kẻ nào tôn trọng ta và sỉ nhục kẻ nào sỉ nhục ta. 31 Ngươi phải biết rằng đã đến lúc ta tiêu diệt dòng dõi ngươi và dòng dõi tổ tiên ngươi. Trong gia đình ngươi sẽ không có ai sống lâu. 32 Ngươi sẽ nhìn thấy chuyện khốn đốn trong nhà mình [g]. Dù có bao nhiêu chuyện tốt đẹp trong Ít-ra-en, gia đình ngươi sẽ không có ai sống lâu. 33 Ta sẽ không hoàn toàn cắt đứt gia đình ngươi khỏi bàn thờ ta nhưng mắt ngươi sẽ khóc và lòng ngươi sẽ buồn thảm vì tất cả dòng dõi ngươi sẽ chết.
34 Ta sẽ cho ngươi một dấu hiệu. Cả hai con trai ngươi, Hóp-ni và Phi-nê-a đều sẽ chết cùng một ngày. 35 Ta sẽ chọn cho ta một thầy tế lễ trung thành, nghe ta và làm theo ý ta. Ta sẽ khiến gia đình người còn mãi, và người sẽ phục vụ ta trước mặt vua ta bổ nhiệm. 36 Rồi ai còn sót lại trong gia đình ngươi sẽ đến quì lạy trước mặt người xin tiền và thức ăn rằng, ‘Làm ơn cho tôi được làm thầy tế lễ để nuôi thân.’”

2 Y Ana oró y dijo:
Mi corazón se regocija en Jehová:
Jehová ha levantado mi frente;
Mi boca se ensancha sobre mis enemigos,
Por cuanto me alegré en tu salvación.
2 No hay santo como Jehová;
Porque no hay ninguno fuera de ti,
Y no hay refugio como el Dios nuestro.
3 No multipliquéis palabras de grandeza y altanería;
Cesen las palabras arrogantes de vuestra boca;
Porque el Dios de todo saber es Jehová,
Y a él toca el pasar las acciones.
4 Los arcos de los fuertes fueron quebrantados,
Y los débiles se ciñeron de poder.
5 Los hartos se alquilaron por pan,
Y los hambrientos dejaron de tener hambre;
Parió la estéril siete hijos,
Y la que tenía muchos hijos languidece.
6 Jehová mata, y él da vida;
Él hace descender al Seol, hace subir.
7 Jehová empobrece, y él enriquece;
Abate, y enaltece.
8 Él levanta del polvo al pobre,
Y del muladar exalta al menesteroso,
Para hacerle sentarse con príncipes y heredar un sitio de honor.
Porque de Jehová son las columnas de la tierra,
Y él afirmó sobre ellas el mundo.
9 Él guarda los pies de sus santos,
Mas los impíos perecen en tinieblas;
Porque nadie será fuerte por su propia fuerza.
10 Delante de Jehová serán quebrantados sus adversarios,
Y sobre ellos tronará desde los cielos;
Jehová juzgará los confines de la tierra,
Dará poder a su Rey,
Y exaltará el poderío de su Ungido.
11 Y Elcaná se volvió a su casa en Ramá; y el niño ministraba a Jehová delante del sacerdote Elí.
El pecado de los hijos de Elí
12 Los hijos de Elí eran hombres impíos, y no tenían conocimiento de Jehová.
13 Y era costumbre de los sacerdotes con el pueblo, que cuando alguno ofrecía sacrificio, venía el criado del sacerdote mientras se cocía la carne, trayendo en su mano un garfio de tres dientes,
14 y lo metía en el perol, en la olla, en el caldero o en la marmita; y todo lo que sacaba el garfio, el sacerdote lo tomaba para sí. De esta manera hacían con todo israelita que venía a Silo.
15 Asimismo, antes de quemar la grosura, venía el criado del sacerdote y decía al que sacrificaba: Da carne para asársela al sacerdote; porque no tomará de ti carne cocida, sino cruda.
16 Y si el hombre le respondía: Quemen la grosura primero, y después toma tanto como quieras; él respondía: No, sino dámela ahora mismo; de otra manera, yo la tomaré por la fuerza.
17 Era, pues, muy grande delante de Jehová el pecado de los jóvenes; porque los hombres menospreciaban las ofrendas de Jehová.
18 Y el joven Samuel ministraba en la presencia de Jehová, vestido de un efod de lino.
19 Y le hacía su madre una túnica pequeña y se la traía cada año, cuando subía con su marido para ofrecer el sacrificio acostumbrado.
20 Y Elí bendijo a Elcaná y a su mujer, diciendo: Jehová te dé hijos de esta mujer en lugar del que pidió a Jehová. Y se volvieron a su casa.
21 Y visitó Jehová a Ana, y ella concibió, y dio a luz tres hijos y dos hijas. Y el joven Samuel crecía delante de Jehová.
22 Pero Elí era muy viejo; y oía de todo lo que sus hijos hacían con todo Israel, y cómo dormían con las mujeres que velaban a la puerta del tabernáculo de reunión.
23 Y les dijo: ¿Por qué hacéis cosas semejantes? Porque yo oigo de todo este pueblo vuestros malos procederes.
24 No, hijos míos, porque no es buena fama la que de vosotros oigo; pues hacéis pecar al pueblo de Jehová.
25 Si peca el hombre contra el hombre, los jueces le juzgarán; mas si alguno peca contra Jehová, ¿quién rogará por él? Pero ellos no oyeron la voz de su padre, porque Jehová había resuelto hacerlos morir.
26 Y el joven Samuel iba creciendo, y era acepto delante de Dios y delante de los hombres.
27 Y vino un varón de Dios a Elí, y le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: ¿No me manifesté yo claramente a la casa de tu padre, cuando los hijos estaban en Egipto en casa de Faraón?
28 Y yo le escogí por mi sacerdote entre todas las tribus de Israel, para que ofreciese sobre mi altar, y quemase incienso, y llevase efod delante de mí; y di a la casa de tu padre todas las ofrendas de los hijos de Israel.
29 ¿Por qué habéis hollado mis sacrificios y mis ofrendas, que yo mandé ofrecer en el tabernáculo; y has honrado a tus hijos más que a mí, engordándoos de lo principal de todas las ofrendas de mi pueblo Israel?
30 Por tanto, Jehová el Dios de Israel dice: Yo había dicho que tu casa y la casa de tu padre andarían delante de mí perpetuamente; mas ahora ha dicho Jehová: Nunca yo tal haga, porque yo honraré a los que me honran, y los que me desprecian serán tenidos en poco.
31 He aquí vienen días en que cortaré tu brazo y el brazo de la casa de tu padre, de modo que no haya anciano en tu casa.
32 Verás tu casa humillada, mientras Dios colma de bienes a Israel; y en ningún tiempo habrá anciano en tu casa.
33 El varón de los tuyos que yo no corte de mi altar, será para consumir tus ojos y llenar tu alma de dolor; y todos los nacidos en tu casa morirán en la edad viril.
34 Y te será por señal esto que acontecerá a tus dos hijos, Ofní y Fineés: ambos morirán en un día.
35 Y yo me suscitaré un sacerdote fiel, que haga conforme a mi corazón y a mi alma; y yo le edificaré casa firme, y andará delante de mi ungido todos los días.
36 Y el que haya quedado en tu casa vendrá a postrarse delante de él por una moneda de plata y un bocado de pan, diciéndole: Te ruego que me agregues a alguno de los ministerios, para que pueda comer un bocado de pan.

2 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
2 There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.
5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
6 The Lord killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.
7 The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.
8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and he hath set the world upon them.
9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the Lord before Eli the priest.
12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the Lord.
13 And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;
14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.
18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the Lord. And they went unto their own home.
21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.
22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.
24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the Lord's people to transgress.
25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the Lord would slay them.
26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men.
27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?
28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
30 Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.
32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.
34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.
35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.
36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
