Faith in the Incarnate Son of God

5 Everyone who believes^(A) that Jesus is the Christ^(B) is born of God,^(C) and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.^{(D) 2} This is how we know^(E) that we love the children of God:^(F) by loving God and carrying out his commands. ³ In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.^(G) And his commands are not burdensome,^{(H) 4} for everyone born of God^(I) overcomes^(J) the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. ⁵ Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.^(K)

⁶ This is the one who came by water and blood^(L)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.^{(M) 7} For there are three^(N) that testify: ⁸ the^[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

³⁵ You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other.^(A)

³⁹ Acknowledge^(A) and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.^(B)

²⁹ “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.^{[a] 30} Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’^{[b](A) 31} The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^[c](B) There is no commandment greater than these.”

³² “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.^(C)

³ and which now at his appointed season^(A) he has brought to light^(B) through the preaching entrusted to me^(C) by the command of God^(D) our Savior,^(E)

⁴ To Titus,^(F) my true son^(G) in our common faith:

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.^(H)

³ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan^(A) has so filled your heart^(B) that you have lied to the Holy Spirit^(C) and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?^{(D) 4} Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal?^(E) What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”^(F)

²⁷ Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures^(A) to eternal life,^(B) which the Son of Man^(C) will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal^(D) of approval.”

²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”^(A)

²⁸ Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

²⁹ Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed;^(B) blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”^(C)
