12 Efra'im har omringet mig med løgn, og Israels hus med svik; og Juda er ennu gjenstridig mot Gud, mot den trofaste Hellige.
2 Efra'im higer efter vind, han jager efter østenvær; hele dagen dynger han op løgn og ødeleggelse; de inngår pakt med Assur, de fører olje til Egypten.
3 Herren har trette med Juda, og han skal hjemsøke Jakob for hans ferds skyld, betale ham efter hans gjerninger.
4 I mors liv holdt han sin bror i hælen, og i sin manndomskraft kjempet han med Gud.
5 Han kjempet med engelen og vant; han gråt og bad ham om nåde; i Betel møtte han ham, og der talte han med oss.
6 Og Herren, hærskarenes Gud - Herren er det navn han skal kalles med.
7 Og du - til din Gud skal du vende om; hold fast ved miskunnhet og rett, og bi stadig på din Gud!
8 I Kana'ans[a] hånd er det falsk vekt; å gjøre urett er hans lyst.
9 Og Efra'im sier: Ja, jeg er blitt rik, har vunnet mig gods; men i alt mitt strev skal ingen kunne finne nogen urett - nogen synd.
10 Men jeg er Herren din Gud fra Egyptens land; jeg vil ennu la dig bo i telt likesom i høitidsdagene.
11 Jeg har talt til profetene, og jeg har latt dem se syner i mengde, og gjennem profetene har jeg talt i lignelser.
12 Er Gilead fullt av misgjerninger, så skal de også bli rent til intet; har de ofret okser i Gilgal, så skal og deres altere bli som stenrøser langsmed markens furer.
13 Jakob flyktet til Arams land[b], Israel tjente for å vinne en hustru - for å vinne en hustru voktet han får.
14 Men ved en profet førte Herren Israel op fra Egypten, og ved en profet voktet han det.
15 Efra'im har vakt bitter harme; derfor skal hans Herre la hans blodskyld komme over ham, og hans hån skal han gjengjelde ham.

12 “Efraim desperdiça o seu tempo:
persegue o vento o dia inteiro.
Cada vez mente mais e rouba mais.
Tem feito alianças com a Assíria
e envia do seu azeite ao Egito”.
2 O SENHOR tem algo contra Judá;
castigará Jacó como ele merece
e lhe dará segundo as suas obras.
3 Desde que estava no ventre da sua mãe,
Jacó começou a enganar ao seu irmão.[a]
Sendo adulto, enfrentou a Deus.
4 Lutou contra um anjo e ganhou dele,[b]
chorou e lhe pediu um favor.
Ele achou a Deus em Betel
e lhe falou.
5 Era o SENHOR Deus Todo-Poderoso.
O seu nome é YAVÉ.
6 Quanto a você, retorne ao seu Deus,
ame fielmente, seja justo
e confie sempre nele.
7 Canaã adora enganar às pessoas;
usa balanças que foram alteradas.
8 Efraim disse: “Sou rico!
Tenho encontrado um tesouro!
Ninguém ficará sabendo dos meus crimes;
ninguém conhecerá os meus pecados”.
9 “Mas eu tenho sido o SENHOR, seu Deus,
desde que você vivia no Egito.
Farei com que você viva em tendas no deserto,
como na época da Tenda Sagrada.[c]
10 Falei aos profetas e muitas vezes
lhes dei a conhecer a minha vontade por meio de visões.
Por meio dos profetas contei histórias
para ensinar as minhas lições às pessoas”.
11 Mas as pessoas de Gileade pecaram
e em Gilgal fazem coisas piores:
sacrificam touros e constroem muitíssimos altares
como fileiras de rochas perto dos campos próprios para o cultivo.
12 Jacó fugiu para Arã.[d]
Ali Israel trabalhou para conseguir uma esposa
e tomou conta de ovelhas para conseguir outra esposa.
13 Por meio de um profeta,
o SENHOR tirou Israel do Egito;
e por meio de um profeta o protegeu.
14 Mas Efraim fez com que ele ficasse irado.
O Senhor o castigará
e o fará pagar pela maldade que fez.

12 [a]1 Ephraim(A) feeds on the wind;(B)
he pursues the east wind all day
and multiplies lies and violence.(C)
He makes a treaty with Assyria(D)
and sends olive oil to Egypt.(E)
2 The Lord has a charge(F) to bring against Judah;(G)
he will punish(H) Jacob[b] according to his ways
and repay him according to his deeds.(I)
3 In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel;(J)
as a man he struggled(K) with God.
4 He struggled with the angel and overcame him;
he wept and begged for his favor.
He found him at Bethel(L)
and talked with him there—
5 the Lord God Almighty,
the Lord is his name!(M)
6 But you must return(N) to your God;
maintain love and justice,(O)
and wait for your God always.(P)
7 The merchant uses dishonest scales(Q)
and loves to defraud.
8 Ephraim boasts,(R)
“I am very rich; I have become wealthy.(S)
With all my wealth they will not find in me
any iniquity or sin.”
9 “I have been the Lord your God
ever since you came out of Egypt;(T)
I will make you live in tents(U) again,
as in the days of your appointed festivals.
10 I spoke to the prophets,
gave them many visions
and told parables(V) through them.”(W)
11 Is Gilead wicked?(X)
Its people are worthless!
Do they sacrifice bulls in Gilgal?(Y)
Their altars will be like piles of stones
on a plowed field.(Z)
12 Jacob fled to the country of Aram[c];(AA)
Israel served to get a wife,
and to pay for her he tended sheep.(AB)
13 The Lord used a prophet to bring Israel up from Egypt,(AC)
by a prophet he cared for him.(AD)
14 But Ephraim has aroused his bitter anger;
his Lord will leave on him the guilt of his bloodshed(AE)
and will repay him for his contempt.(AF)
