Gods straf komt eraan
9 De Heer zegt: "Israël, vier maar niet zo uitbundig feest als de andere volken![a] Want jullie zijn ontrouw aan jullie God. Jullie zijn bij Hem weggelopen. Jullie hebben overal andere goden gedankt voor jullie oogsten. 2 Voor straf zullen de oogsten van graan en wijn mislukken. 3 En jullie zullen niet in het land van de Heer blijven wonen. Jullie zullen naar Egypte gaan.[b] En jullie zullen in Assur en Egypte onrein voedsel eten.[c] 4 Jullie zullen geen wijn-offers meer aan Mij offeren. Jullie zullen Mij niet meer blij maken met jullie offers. Jullie eten zal onrein zijn, zoals brood dat gegeten wordt bij een begrafenis. Door onrein eten zijn jullie zelf onrein geworden. Daarom zal het alleen voor jullie zelf zijn. Jullie mogen er niets van aan Mij geven, in mijn tempel. 5 En wat zullen jullie doen op mijn feestdagen? Wat zullen jullie doen op de feesten van de Heer?
6 Let op, jullie zullen naar Egypte gaan omdat je land verwoest wordt. Daar zullen jullie in de stad Nof begraven worden. Jullie zilver zal geroofd worden. Doornstruiken zullen op jullie akkers groeien. Distels zullen in jullie huizen staan.
7 De tijd van jullie straf is gekomen. De tijd is gekomen dat jullie krijgen wat jullie met je gedrag hebben verdiend. Israël zal dat merken! Jullie vinden de profeten maar dwazen. Jullie zeggen dat ze gek zijn. Omdat jullie zo slecht zijn, is jullie haat tegen Mij groot. 8 De profeet van Israël staat aan de kant van God. Maar voor jullie is hij als een vijand, iemand die tegen jullie goden is. 9 Jullie doen net zulke verschrikkelijke dingen als in de tijd van Gibea.[d] Maar jullie zullen de gevolgen ervan moeten dragen. Ik zal jullie ervoor straffen.
10 Toen Ik het volk Israël vond, was het voor Mij zo kostbaar als druiven in de woestijn. Jullie voorouders waren voor Mij zo kostbaar als de eerste vijgen van het seizoen. Maar ze aanbaden liever Baäl-Peor.[e] Daardoor vond Ik hen net zo walgelijk als de afgod die ze aanbaden. 11 Wat betreft het koninkrijk Israël: de welvaart zal er wegvliegen als een vogel. Er zullen geen kinderen meer worden geboren. 12 En zelfs als ze nu kinderen hebben, zal Ik hen toch kinderloos maken. Hun kinderen zullen niet blijven leven. Want het zal slecht met Israël aflopen als Ik hen verlaten heb. 13 Ik had Israël, net als Tyrus, een prachtig land gegeven. Maar nu zal Israël zijn bewoners moeten weggeven aan een moordenaar."
14 Hosea roept uit: – "Geef hun genade, Heer! Maar hoe? Geef de vrouwen doodgeboren baby's! Geef de moeders geen melk om hun baby's te voeden!"[f]
15 De Heer zegt: "In Gilgal werd duidelijk hoe slecht ze zijn.[g] Daar heb Ik hen gehaat. Want ze doen vreselijke dingen. Daarom zal Ik hen uit mijn huis wegjagen. Ik zal niet langer van hen houden. Al hun leiders zijn ongehoorzaam aan Mij. 16 Israël is als een dode boom geworden, met verdroogde wortels en zonder vruchten. Zelfs wanneer er nog kinderen geboren worden, zal Ik die kinderen waar hun ouders zoveel van houden, doden."
17 Hosea zegt: – "Mijn God zal niet meer naar hen omkijken, omdat ze niet naar Hem hebben willen luisteren. Ze zullen rondzwerven bij andere volken."

- Hosea 9:1 Het is heel waarschijnlijk dat Hosea hiermee de feesten voor de afgoden bedoelt. Dat waren wilde feesten met veel drank en seks.
- Hosea 9:3 Een klein deel van de bevolking van Israël zou naar Egypte vluchten. De rest zou worden gedood of meegenomen worden naar Assur.
- Hosea 9:3 God had in de wet regels gegeven over welke dieren de Israëlieten wel en niet mochten eten. De 'onreine' dieren mochten niet gegeten worden. Lees Deuteronomium 14:4-20. In Egypte en Assur zouden ze zich niet aan deze wetten (kunnen) houden.
- Hosea 9:9 Ditzelfde wordt gezegd in Hosea 10:9. De meeste uitleggers gaan er van uit dat dit slaat op een walgelijke misdaad in de tijd van de richters. Lees Richters 19.
- Hosea 9:10 Toen de Israëlieten door God uit Egypte waren bevrijd, gingen ze al heel gauw de god van Moab, Baäl-Peor, aanbidden. Lees Numeri 25:1-4.
- Hosea 9:14 Dit lijkt Hosea minder erg dan alle ellende die de kinderen anders zullen moeten meemaken.
- Hosea 9:15 In Gilgal had het volk Israël Saul tot koning gekroond. God had hun Koning willen zijn, maar ze wilden liever een 'gewone' koning, net als de andere volken. Lees 1 Samuel 8:1-9, 1 Samuel 11:15 en 1 Samuel 12:17.

9 No te alegres, Israel, con gran júbilo(A) como las naciones,
Porque te has prostituido, abandonando a tu Dios(B);
Has amado el salario de ramera sobre todas las eras de trigo.
2 Ni la era ni el lagar los alimentarán(C),
Y el vino nuevo les faltará.
3 No permanecerán en la tierra del Señor(D),
Sino que Efraín volverá a Egipto(E),
Y en Asiria(F) comerán cosas inmundas(G).
4 No harán libaciones de vino al Señor(H),
Ni le serán gratos sus sacrificios(I).
Su pan les será como pan de duelo,
Todos los que lo coman se contaminarán(J),
Porque su pan será solo para ellos,
No entrará en la casa del Señor.
5 ¿Qué harán el día de la fiesta señalada(K)
Y el día de la fiesta del Señor(L)?
6 Pues se irán a causa de la destrucción;
Egipto los recogerá, Menfis los sepultará(M).
La ortiga poseerá sus tesoros de plata;
Cardos crecerán en sus tiendas(N).
7 ¶Han llegado los días del castigo(O),
Han llegado los días de la retribución(P);
¡Que lo sepa Israel!
Un insensato es el profeta(Q),
Un loco el hombre inspirado(R),
A causa de la magnitud de tu culpa(S),
Y por tu mucha hostilidad.
8 Vigía con mi Dios era Efraín, un profeta;
Sin embargo, el lazo de cazador está en todos sus caminos,
Y en la casa de su Dios solo hay hostilidad.
9 Se han corrompido profundamente(T)
Como en los días de Guibeá(U);
Él se acordará de su iniquidad(V),
Castigará sus pecados.
10 ¶Como uvas en el desierto(W) hallé a Israel;
Como las primicias de la higuera en su primera cosecha(X) vi a sus padres.
Pero fueron a Baal Peor(Y) y se consagraron a la vergüenza(Z),
Y se hicieron tan abominables como lo que amaban(AA).
11 Como un ave volará de Efraín su gloria(AB):
No habrá nacimiento, ni embarazo, ni concepción.
12 Aunque críen a sus hijos,
Se los quitaré hasta que no quede hombre alguno.
Sí, ¡ay de ellos también cuando de ellos me aparte(AC)!
13 Efraín, según he visto,
Está como Tiro(AD), plantado en pradera hermosa;
Pero Efraín sacará a sus hijos al verdugo.
14 Dales, oh Señor, ¿qué les darás?
Dales matriz que aborte(AE) y pechos secos.
15 ¶Toda su maldad está en Gilgal(AF);
Allí, pues, los aborrecí.
Por la maldad de sus hechos(AG)
Los expulsaré de Mi casa,
No los amaré más;
Todos sus príncipes son rebeldes(AH).
16 Efraín está herido, su raíz está seca(AI);
No darán más fruto(AJ).
Aunque den a luz,
Yo mataré el fruto de su vientre(AK).
17 Mi Dios los desechará
Porque no lo han escuchado(AL),
Y andarán errantes entre las naciones(AM).

El castigo de Israel anunciado por Oseas
9 No te alegres, Israel;
no saltes de contento como otros pueblos,
pues te has prostituido
al abandonar a tu Dios.
En las eras donde se trilla el grano,
te gusta recibir el pago de tus prostituciones.
2 El pueblo de Israel no tendrá trigo ni vino;
su vino nuevo no será suficiente.
3 Efraín regresará a Egipto,
y en Asiria comerá alimentos impuros.
No vivirán más en el país del Señor:
4 no beberán vino en honor del Señor,
ni le ofrecerán allí sus sacrificios.
El pan que coman será como pan de duelo,
y quienes lo coman quedarán impuros.
Ellos se comerán ese pan,
pero no podrán llevarlo al templo del Señor.
5 ¿Qué harán ustedes en el día de la fiesta,
de la solemne fiesta del Señor?
6 Ellos han huido de la destrucción;
Egipto los recogerá,
y en Menfis serán enterrados.
Sus tesoros de plata se llenarán de ortigas,
y en su campamento crecerán los espinos.
7 ¡Ya han llegado los días del castigo!
¡Ya han llegado los días del pago merecido!
¡Israel va a saber que ya han llegado!
Ustedes dicen: «El profeta es un necio.
El hombre inspirado es un loco.»
Pero lo dicen porque están llenos de maldad,
porque su odio es grande.
8 Dios ha puesto a su profeta por centinela de Efraín,
pero ustedes tienden trampas a su paso;
¡hasta en el templo de Dios le odian!
9 Se corrompieron completamente,
como en los tiempos de Guibeá.
Pero el Señor se acordará de su maldad
y castigará sus pecados.
Israel sufrirá las consecuencias de su pecado
10 Dice el Señor:
«Cuando encontré a Israel, me alegré
como el que encuentra uvas en el desierto.
Los antepasados de ustedes fueron a mis ojos
como los higos tempranos.
Pero cuando llegaron a Baal-peor
se consagraron a los dioses falsos,
y se hicieron tan despreciables
como los ídolos que ellos amaban.
11 La grandeza de Efraín volará como un ave.
No nacerán más niños,
no habrá más mujeres embarazadas,
no se concebirán más hijos.
12 Y aun si lograran criar a sus hijos,
yo se los quitaría sin dejarles ninguno.
¡Ay de esta gente cuando me aparte de ella!
13 Veo que Efraín trata a sus hijos
como si fueran presa de cazadores:
los saca para entregarlos a la matanza.»
14 ¡Dales, Señor, lo que hayas de darles!
¡Dales vientres estériles y pechos sin leche!
Enojo del Señor contra Efraín
15 Dice el Señor:
«En Guilgal hicieron todo lo malo,
y allí comencé a odiarlos.
Por la maldad de sus acciones
los voy a echar de mi casa;
no voy a seguir amándolos,
pues todos sus jefes son rebeldes.
16 Efraín está herido;
es como un árbol de raíces secas
que ha dejado de dar fruto.
Aunque tenga hijos,
yo los haré morir.»
17 Este pueblo no ha querido
hacerle caso a mi Dios;
por eso mi Dios va a rechazarlo,
y andarán errantes entre las naciones.

Punishment for Israel
9 Do not rejoice, Israel;
do not be jubilant(A) like the other nations.
For you have been unfaithful(B) to your God;
you love the wages of a prostitute(C)
at every threshing floor.
2 Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people;
the new wine(D) will fail them.
3 They will not remain(E) in the Lord’s land;
Ephraim will return to Egypt(F)
and eat unclean food in Assyria.(G)
4 They will not pour out wine offerings(H) to the Lord,
nor will their sacrifices please(I) him.
Such sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners;(J)
all who eat them will be unclean.(K)
This food will be for themselves;
it will not come into the temple of the Lord.(L)
5 What will you do(M) on the day of your appointed festivals,(N)
on the feast days of the Lord?
6 Even if they escape from destruction,
Egypt will gather them,(O)
and Memphis(P) will bury them.(Q)
Their treasures of silver(R) will be taken over by briers,
and thorns(S) will overrun their tents.
7 The days of punishment(T) are coming,
the days of reckoning(U) are at hand.
Let Israel know this.
Because your sins(V) are so many
and your hostility so great,
the prophet is considered a fool,(W)
the inspired person a maniac.(X)
8 The prophet, along with my God,
is the watchman over Ephraim,[a]
yet snares(Y) await him on all his paths,
and hostility in the house of his God.(Z)
9 They have sunk deep into corruption,(AA)
as in the days of Gibeah.(AB)
God will remember(AC) their wickedness
and punish them for their sins.(AD)
10 “When I found Israel,
it was like finding grapes in the desert;
when I saw your ancestors,
it was like seeing the early fruit(AE) on the fig(AF) tree.
But when they came to Baal Peor,(AG)
they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol(AH)
and became as vile as the thing they loved.
11 Ephraim’s glory(AI) will fly away like a bird(AJ)—
no birth, no pregnancy, no conception.(AK)
12 Even if they rear children,
I will bereave(AL) them of every one.
Woe(AM) to them
when I turn away from them!(AN)
13 I have seen Ephraim,(AO) like Tyre,
planted in a pleasant place.(AP)
But Ephraim will bring out
their children to the slayer.”(AQ)
14 Give them, Lord—
what will you give them?
Give them wombs that miscarry
and breasts that are dry.(AR)
15 “Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal,(AS)
I hated them there.
Because of their sinful deeds,(AT)
I will drive them out of my house.
I will no longer love them;(AU)
all their leaders are rebellious.(AV)
16 Ephraim(AW) is blighted,
their root is withered,
they yield no fruit.(AX)
Even if they bear children,
I will slay(AY) their cherished offspring.”

9 Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.
2 The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.
3 They shall not dwell in the Lord's land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
4 They shall not offer wine offerings to the Lord, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the Lord.
5 What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the Lord?
6 For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.
7 The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
8 The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.
9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.
10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.
11 As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.
12 Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!
13 Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.
14 Give them, O Lord: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.
16 Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.
17 My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
