⁷ “They^(A) sow the wind,
And reap the whirlwind.
The stalk has no bud;
It shall never produce meal.
If it should produce,
^(B)Aliens would swallow it up.
^8 (C)Israel is swallowed up;
Now they are among the Gentiles
^(D)Like a vessel in which is no pleasure.
⁹ For they have gone up to Assyria,
Like ^(E)a wild donkey alone by itself;
Ephraim ^(F)has hired lovers.
¹⁰ Yes, though they have hired among the nations,
Now ^(G)I will gather them;
And they shall ^[a]sorrow a little,
Because of the ^[b]burden of ^(H)the king of princes.

^(C)“I will call them My people, who were not My people,
And her beloved, who was not beloved.”
²⁶ “And^(D) it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,
‘You are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of the living God.”

^(E)“Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea,
^(F)The remnant will be saved.
²⁸ For ^[a]He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness,
^(G)Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”

^(H)“Unless the Lord of ^[b]Sabaoth had left us a seed,
^(I)We would have become like Sodom,
And we would have been made like Gomorrah.”
