Efraims och Samariens ondska
7 När jag vill hela Israel, då avslöjas Efraims missgärning
och Samariens ondska.
Ty de handlar svekfullt,
tjuvar gör inbrott
och rövarskaror plundrar på vägarna.
2 I sina hjärtan tänker de inte på
att jag kommer ihåg all deras ondska.
De är nu omgivna av sina egna gärningar,
som är inför mitt ansikte.
3 Med sin ondska gläder de kungen
och med sina lögner furstarna.
4 Alla är de äktenskapsbrytare.
De liknar en ugn, som bagaren värmt upp.
När han har knådat degen upphör han att elda,
till dess att degen har jäst.
5 På vår kungs dag drack sig furstarna febersjuka av vin,
själv räckte han smädarna handen.
6 Ty de kommer honom nära.
Deras hjärtan är som en ugn
när de ligger i försåt.
Hela natten sover deras bagare,
men på morgonen brinner han som en flammande eld.
7 Alla är de heta som en ugn
och de förtär sina domare.
Alla deras kungar har fallit,
ingen bland dem åkallar mig.
8 Efraim blandar sig med andra folk.
Han är som en kaka
som inte har vänts.
9 Främlingar har förtärt hans kraft,
men han förstår det inte.
Trots att han har fått grått hår,
märker han det inte.
10 Israels stolthet vittnar emot honom.
De vänder inte om till Herren, sin Gud,
och söker inte hans hjälp trots allt detta.
11 Efraim har blivit som en dum duva utan förstånd.
De kallar på Egypten,
till Assur går de.
12 Men när de går
kastar jag ut mitt nät över dem,
som om de var fåglar under himlen
skall jag dra ner dem.
Jag skall straffa dem,
så som det är kungjort i deras församling.
13 Ve över dem,
ty de har flytt bort från mig!
Fördärv över dem,
ty de har avfallit från mig!
Jag ville friköpa dem,
men de har talat lögnaktigt mot mig.
14 De ropar inte till mig av hjärtat,
utan klagar på sina bäddar.
De oroar sig för sin säd och sitt vin,
men de vänder sig bort från mig.
15 Det var jag som undervisade dem
och stärkte deras armar,
men de har ont i sinnet mot mig.
16 De vänder om,
men inte till den som är därovan.
De är lika en båge som sviktar.
Deras furstar skall falla genom svärd,
därför att deras tungor är så hätska.
Detta skall bli dem till hån
i Egyptens land.

7 (A) När jag vill hela Israel,

Efraims missgärning
och Samariens ondska,
för de begår svek,
tjuvar gör inbrott
och rövarband plundrar
på vägarna.
2 (B) I sina hjärtan tänker de inte på
att jag kommer ihåg
all deras ondska.
Nu är de omringade
av sina gärningar,
de är inför mitt ansikte.
3 Med sin ondska gläder de kungen
och med sina lögner furstarna.
4 Alla är de äktenskapsbrytare.
De liknar en ugn
som bagaren värmt upp.
När han knådat degen
slutar han elda
tills degen har jäst.
5 (C) På vår kungs dag
drack sig furstarna
febriga av vin,
själv räckte han smädarna handen.
6 De kommer nära,
deras hjärtan är som en ugn
där de ligger i försåt.
Hela natten sover deras bagare,
men på morgonen brinner han
som en flammande eld.
7 (D) Alla är de heta som en ugn
och förtär sina domare.
Alla deras kungar har fallit,
ingen bland dem åkallar mig.
8 (E) Efraim blandar sig med andra folk,
han är som en brödkaka
som inte har vänts.
9 Främlingar har förtärt hans kraft
men han förstår det inte,
trots att han fått gråa hår
märker han det inte.
10 (F) Israels högmod vittnar
mot honom.
De vänder inte om
till Herren sin Gud
och söker inte hans hjälp
trots allt detta.
11 (G) Efraim har blivit som en duva,
naiv och utan vett.
De kallar på Egypten,
de går till Assur.
12 (H) Men när de går
kastar jag mitt nät över dem,
drar ner dem
som fåglar under himlen.
Jag ska straffa dem
så som de hört i sin församling[a].
13 Ve över dem,
för de har flytt bort från mig!
Fördärv över dem,
för de har gjort uppror
mot mig!
Jag ville friköpa dem,
men de har talat lögner
mot mig.
14 (I) De ropar inte till mig av hjärtat
utan klagar på sina bäddar.
De oroar sig[b] för säd och vin
men vänder sig bort från mig.
15 Det var jag som lärde dem
och stärkte[c] deras armar,
men de har ont i sinnet mot mig.
16 (J) De vänder om,
men inte till den som är därovan.
De liknar en båge som sviker.
Deras furstar ska falla för svärd
på grund av sina hätska tungor.
Det ska bli deras vanära
i Egyptens land.

7 1 whenever I would heal Israel,
the sins of Ephraim are exposed
and the crimes of Samaria revealed.(A)
They practice deceit,(B)
thieves break into houses,(C)
bandits rob in the streets;(D)
2 but they do not realize
that I remember(E) all their evil deeds.(F)
Their sins engulf them;(G)
they are always before me.
3 “They delight the king with their wickedness,
the princes with their lies.(H)
4 They are all adulterers,(I)
burning like an oven
whose fire the baker need not stir
from the kneading of the dough till it rises.
5 On the day of the festival of our king
the princes become inflamed with wine,(J)
and he joins hands with the mockers.(K)
6 Their hearts are like an oven;(L)
they approach him with intrigue.
Their passion smolders all night;
in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.
7 All of them are hot as an oven;
they devour their rulers.
All their kings fall,(M)
and none of them calls(N) on me.
8 “Ephraim mixes(O) with the nations;
Ephraim is a flat loaf not turned over.
9 Foreigners sap his strength,(P)
but he does not realize it.
His hair is sprinkled with gray,
but he does not notice.
10 Israel’s arrogance testifies against him,(Q)
but despite all this
he does not return(R) to the Lord his God
or search(S) for him.
11 “Ephraim is like a dove,(T)
easily deceived and senseless—
now calling to Egypt,(U)
now turning to Assyria.(V)
12 When they go, I will throw my net(W) over them;
I will pull them down like the birds in the sky.
When I hear them flocking together,
I will catch them.
13 Woe(X) to them,
because they have strayed(Y) from me!
Destruction to them,
because they have rebelled against me!
I long to redeem them
but they speak about me(Z) falsely.(AA)
14 They do not cry out to me from their hearts(AB)
but wail on their beds.
They slash themselves,[a] appealing to their gods
for grain and new wine,(AC)
but they turn away from me.(AD)
15 I trained(AE) them and strengthened their arms,
but they plot evil(AF) against me.
16 They do not turn to the Most High;(AG)
they are like a faulty bow.(AH)
Their leaders will fall by the sword
because of their insolent(AI) words.
For this they will be ridiculed(AJ)
in the land of Egypt.(AK)

7 When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, and the troop of robbers spoileth without.
2 And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.
3 They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
4 They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.
5 In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
6 For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.
7 They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.
8 Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
10 And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek him for all this.
11 Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
12 When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.
13 Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.
14 And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me.
15 Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.
16 They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

and the evil deeds of (B)Samaria,
for (C)they deal falsely;
the thief breaks in,
and the bandits raid outside.
2 But they do not consider
that (D)I remember all their evil.
Now (E)their deeds surround them;
(F)they are before my face.
3 By their evil (G)they make (H)the king glad,
and the princes by their treachery.
4 (I)They are all adulterers;
they are like a heated oven
whose baker ceases to stir the fire,
from the kneading of the dough
until it is leavened.
5 On the day of (J)our king, the princes
became sick with the heat of wine;
he stretched out his hand with mockers.
6 For with hearts like an oven (K)they approach their intrigue;
