7 (A)when I would heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim is revealed, and the evil deeds of (B)Samaria, for (C)they deal falsely; the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid outside.
13 (A)Woe to them, for they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me! (B)I would redeem them, but (C)they speak lies against me.
4 What shall I do with you, (A)O (B)Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O (C)Judah? Your love is (D)like a morning cloud, (E)like the dew that goes early away.
3 (A)Their hands are on what is evil, to do it well; (B)the prince and (C)the judge ask for a bribe, and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul; thus they weave it together. 4 The best of them is (D)like a brier, the most upright of them a thorn hedge. The day of (E)your watchmen, of your punishment, has come; (F)now their confusion is at hand. 5 (G)Put no trust in a neighbor; have no confidence in a friend; guard (H)the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your arms;[a] 6 for (I)the son treats the father with contempt, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; (J)a man's enemies are the men of his own house. 7 But as for me, I will look to the Lord; (K)I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.
34 (A)O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that (B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! (C)How often would I have (D)gathered (E)your children together (F)as a hen gathers her brood (G)under her wings, and (H)you were not willing!
37 (A)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that (B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have (C)gathered (D)your children together (E)as a hen gathers her brood (F)under her wings, and (G)you were not willing!
16 For you have kept the statutes of (A)Omri,[a] and all the works of the house of (B)Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels, that I may make you (C)a desolation, and your[b] inhabitants (D)a hissing; so you shall bear (E)the scorn of my people.”
14 Those who swear by (A)the Guilt of Samaria, and say, ‘As your god lives, O Dan,’ and, ‘As (B)the Way of (C)Beersheba lives,’ they shall fall, and never rise again.”
12 [a] Ephraim (A)has surrounded me with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit, but Judah still walks with God and is faithful to the Holy One. 12 Ephraim feeds on the wind and pursues (B)the east wind all day long; they multiply (C)falsehood and violence; (D)they make a covenant with Assyria, and (E)oil is carried to Egypt.
5 The inhabitants of Samaria tremble for (A)the calf[a] of (B)Beth-aven. Its people mourn for it, and so do its idolatrous priests— those who rejoiced over it and (C)over its glory— for it has departed[b] from them.
