The Lord’s Word Against the Leaders

“Listen, you priests.
    Pay attention, people of Israel.
Listen, royal family.
    You will all be judged.
You have been like a trap at Mizpah.
You have been like a net spread out at Mount Tabor.
You have done many bad things.
So I will punish you all.
I know all about Israel.
What they have done is not hidden from me.
They all act like prostitutes.
    Israel has made itself unclean.

“And those bad things they have done
keep them from returning to their God.
They are determined to be unfaithful to me.
They do not know the Lord.
Israel’s pride testifies against them.
The people of Israel will stumble because of their sin.
The people of Judah will also stumble with them.
The people will come to worship the Lord.
They will come with their sheep and cattle.
But they will not be able to find him,
    because he has left them.
They have not been true to the Lord.
Their children do not belong to him.
So their false worship
will destroy them and their land.

“Blow the horn in Gibeah.
    Blow the trumpet in Ramah.
Give the warning at Beth Aven.
Be first into battle, people of Benjamin.
A time of punishment is coming.
    Israel will be destroyed.
I warn the tribes of Israel
    that this will surely happen.
10 The leaders of Judah are like thieves.
They try to steal the property of others.
My punishment will overwhelm them
    like a flood of water.
11 Israel will be crushed by the punishments,
because they decided to follow idols.
12 I will destroy Israel
    as a moth destroys clothing.
I will destroy Judah
    as rot destroys wood.

13 “Israel saw how weak she was.
Judah saw the wounds she suffered.
So Israel turned to Assyria for help.
She sent to the great king of Assyria for help.
But he cannot heal you.
    He cannot cure your wound.
14 I will be like a lion to Israel.
I will be like a young lion to Judah.
I will attack them
    and tear them to pieces.
I will drag them off,
and no one will be able to save them.
15 Then I will go back to my place
until the people admit they are guilty.
At that time they must look for me.
In their trouble they must turn to me.”

Hear ye this, O kohanim; and pay heed, ye Bais Yisroel; and give ye ear, O Bais HaMelech; for hamishpat (the judgment) is against you, because ye have been a pach (snare, bird trap) at Mitzpah, and a reshet (net) spread upon Tavor.

And the revolters have deepened their slaughter, and I will be musar (punishment; see regarding Moshiach, Isa.53:5) of them all.

I know Ephrayim, and Yisroel is not hid from Me; for now, O Ephrayim, thou committest whoredom, and Yisroel is tameh (unclean, defiled).

Their doings do not permit them to turn unto Eloheihem; for the ruach zenunim is in the midst of them, and they have not known Hashem.

And the ga’on Yisroel (pride of Yisroel) doth testify to his face; therefore shall Yisroel and Ephrayim stumble and fall in their avon (iniquity); Yehudah also shall fall with them.

They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Hashem; but they shall not find Him; He hath withdrawn Himself from them.

They have dealt treacherously against Hashem; for they have begotten banim zarim (strange, illegitimate children); now shall a [Rosh] Chodesh devour them with their fields.

Blow ye the shofar in Giveah, and the trumpet in Ramah; cry aloud at Beit-Aven; after thee, O Binyamin!

Ephrayim shall be desolate in the Yom Tokheichah (Day of Rebuke): among the Shivtei Yisroel have I made known that which is certain.

10 The sarim (princes) of Yehudah were like them that remove the gevul (boundary stone); therefore I will pour out My wrath upon them like mayim.

11 Ephrayim is oppressed and crushed in mishpat (judgment), because he willingly walked after tzav (human statute [Isa 28:10,13]).

12 Therefore will I be unto Ephrayim like maggots, and to the Bais Yehudah like rottenness.

13 When Ephrayim saw his sickness, and Yehudah saw his sores, then went Ephrayim to the Assyrian, and sent to the great king; yet he was not able to heal you, nor cure you of your wound.

14 For I will be unto Ephrayim like a lion, and as a great lion to the Bais Yehudah; I, even I, will tear and go away; I will carry off, and there will be no one rescuing.

15 I will go and return to My place, till they acknowledge their guilt, and seek My face; in their tzar (affliction, distress) they will beg My favor.
