Hosea 4:10-14

New International Version

¹⁰“They will eat but not have enough;^(A)
    they will engage in prostitution^(B) but not flourish,
because they have deserted^(C) the Lord
    to give themselves ¹¹to prostitution;^(D)
old wine^(E) and new wine
    take away their understanding.^(F)
¹²My people consult a wooden idol,^(G)
    and a diviner’s rod speaks to them.^(H)
A spirit of prostitution^(I) leads them astray;^(J)
    they are unfaithful^(K) to their God.
¹³They sacrifice on the mountaintops
    and burn offerings on the hills,
under oak,^(L) poplar and terebinth,
    where the shade is pleasant.^(M)
Therefore your daughters turn to prostitution^(N)
    and your daughters-in-law to adultery.^(O)

¹⁴“I will not punish your daughters
    when they turn to prostitution,
nor your daughters-in-law
    when they commit adultery,
because the men themselves consort with harlots^(P)
    and sacrifice with shrine prostitutes^(Q)—
    a people without understanding^(R) will come to ruin!^(S)

They will ^(B)play the prostitute, but not ^[a]increase,
Because they ^(C)gave up devoting themselves to the Lord.

¹¹^[b]Infidelity, ^(D)wine, and new wine take away the ^[c]understanding.
¹²My people ^(E)consult their wooden idol, and their diviner’s wand informs them;
For a spirit of infidelity has led them astray,
And they have been unfaithful, departing ^[d]from their God.
¹³They offer sacrifices on the ^(F)tops of the mountains
And ^[e]^(G)burn incense on the hills,
^(H)Under oak, poplar, and terebinth,
Because their shade is pleasant.
Therefore your daughters play the prostitute,
And your ^[f]brides commit adultery.
¹⁴I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute,
Or your ^[g]brides when they commit adultery,
Because the men themselves slip away with the prostitutes
And offer sacrifices with ^(I)temple prostitutes;
So the people without understanding are ruined.
