11 whoredom, wine, and new wine,
    which (A)take away the understanding.
12 My people (B)inquire of a piece of wood,
    and their walking staff gives them oracles.
For (C)a spirit of whoredom has led them astray,
    and they have left their God to play the whore.
13 (D)They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains
    and burn offerings on the hills,
(E)under oak, poplar, and terebinth,
    because their shade is good.
Therefore your daughters play the whore,
    and your brides commit adultery.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the whore,
    nor your brides when they commit adultery;
for (F)the men themselves go aside with prostitutes
    and sacrifice with (G)cult prostitutes,
and a people (H)without understanding shall come to ruin.

15 Though you play the whore, O (I)Israel,
    let not (J)Judah become guilty.
(K)Enter not into (L)Gilgal,
    nor go up to (M)Beth-aven,
    and swear not, “As the Lord lives.”
16 Like a stubborn heifer,
    Israel is stubborn;
can the Lord now feed them
    like a lamb in a broad pasture?

17 (N)Ephraim is joined to idols;
    (O)leave him alone.
18 When their drink is gone, they give themselves to whoring;
    (P)their rulers[a] dearly love shame.
19 (Q)A wind has wrapped them[b] in its wings,
    and they shall (R)be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

Punishment Coming for Israel and Judah

(S)Hear this, O priests!
    Pay attention, O house of Israel!
Give ear, O house of the king!
    For the judgment is for you;
for (T)you have been a snare at Mizpah
    and a net spread upon (U)Tabor.
And (V)the revolters (W)have gone deep into slaughter,
    but (X)I will discipline all of them.

(Y)I know Ephraim,
    and Israel is not hidden from me;
for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore;
    Israel is defiled.
(Z)Their deeds do not permit them
    to return to their God.
For (AA)the spirit of whoredom is within them,
    and they know not the Lord.

(AB)The pride of Israel testifies to his face;[c]
    Israel and (AC)Ephraim shall stumble in his guilt;
    (AD)Judah also shall stumble with them.
(AE)With their flocks and herds they shall go
    to seek the Lord,
(AF)but they will not find him;
    (AG)he has withdrawn from them.
(AH)They have dealt faithlessly with the Lord;
    for they have borne alien children.
    Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields.

(AI)Blow the horn in (AJ)Gibeah,
    the trumpet in (AK)Ramah.
Sound the alarm at (AL)Beth-aven;
    we follow you,[d] O Benjamin!
Ephraim shall become a desolation
    in the day of punishment;
among the tribes of Israel
    I make known what is sure.
10 The princes of Judah have become
    like (AM)those who move the landmark;
upon them I will pour out
    my wrath like water.
11 Ephraim is (AN)oppressed, crushed in judgment,
    because he was determined to go after filth.[e]
12 But I am (AO)like a moth to Ephraim,
    and (AP)like dry rot to the house of Judah.

13 When Ephraim saw his sickness,
    and Judah (AQ)his wound,
then Ephraim went (AR)to Assyria,
    and sent to the great king.[f]
(AS)But he is not able to cure you
    or heal (AT)your wound.
14 For I will be (AU)like a lion to (AV)Ephraim,
    and like a young lion to the house of (AW)Judah.
(AX)I, even I, will tear and go away;
    I will carry off, and no one shall rescue.

15 (AY)I will return again to my place,
    until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face,
    and (AZ)in their distress earnestly seek me.

Give Ear to My Voice

A Psalm of David.

141 O Lord, I call upon you; (A)hasten to me!
    Give ear to my voice when I call to you!
Let (B)my prayer be counted as incense before you,
    and (C)the lifting up of my hands as (D)the evening sacrifice!

(E)Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
    (F)keep watch over the door of my lips!
(G)Do not let my heart incline to any evil,
    to busy myself with wicked deeds
in company with men who (H)work iniquity,
    and (I)let me not eat of their delicacies!

The Throne in Heaven

After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me (A)like a trumpet, said, (B)“Come up here, and (C)I will show you what must take place after this.” At once (D)I was in the Spirit, and behold, (E)a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of (F)jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was (G)a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were (H)twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, (I)clothed in white garments, with (J)golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came (K)flashes of lightning, and rumblings[a] and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning (L)seven torches of fire, (M)which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was (N)as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.

And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are (O)four living creatures, (P)full of eyes in front and behind: (Q)the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. And the four living creatures, (R)each of them with six wings, are (S)full of eyes all around and within, and (T)day and night they never cease to say,

(U)“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
    (V)who was and is and is to come!”

And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, (W)who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders (X)fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast (Y)their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 (Z)“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
    to receive glory and honor and power,
for (AA)you created all things,
    and (AB)by your will they existed and were created.”
