Hoffnung für Alle
2 Doch es kommt die Zeit, da werden die Israeliten so zahlreich sein wie der Sand am Meer; man wird sie nicht zählen können. Ich habe ihnen gesagt: Ihr seid nicht mein Volk. Dann aber werden sie ›Kinder des lebendigen Gottes‹ heißen. 2 Alle Männer aus Juda und Israel werden sich versammeln und ein gemeinsames Oberhaupt wählen. Sie werden das ganze Land in Besitz nehmen. Was für ein großer Tag wird das sein, wenn meine Saat aufgeht![a] 3 Dann sollt ihr euren Schwestern und Brüdern in meinem Auftrag verkünden: ›Ihr seid mein Volk, ich habe Erbarmen mit euch.‹«
Die untreue Frau – ein Gleichnis für Israel
4 »Klagt euer Land an, ihr Israeliten! Bringt euer Volk vor Gericht! Schon lange ist eure Mutter Israel nicht mehr meine Frau, und darum will auch ich nicht länger ihr Mann sein! Sie soll die Zeichen ihrer Hurerei entfernen, die sie im Gesicht und an den Brüsten trägt. 5 Sonst werde ich sie nackt ausziehen und sie so hilflos machen wie bei ihrer Geburt. Ihr Land verwandle ich in eine Wüste, in eine dürre Einöde, ja, ich will sie verdursten lassen! 6 Auch mit ihren Kindern werde ich kein Mitleid haben, denn sie sind Hurenkinder. 7 Ihre Mutter hat sich mit fremden Männern eingelassen und Schande über sich gebracht. Sie dachte: ›Es lohnt sich, bei meinen Liebhabern zu bleiben, denn sie geben mir, was ich brauche: Brot und Wasser, Wolle und Flachs, Öl und Wein.‹
8 Darum versperre ich ihr den Weg mit Mauern und lasse ihn mit Dornengestrüpp überwuchern, so dass sie nicht mehr weiterweiß. 9 Vergeblich läuft sie dann hinter ihren Liebhabern her. Sie wird sie suchen, aber nicht finden. Zuletzt wird sie sich besinnen: ›Ich will nach Hause zurückkehren, zu meinem ersten Mann; denn bei ihm ging es mir besser.‹ 10 Sie hat nicht erkannt, dass ich es war, der ihr Getreide, Most und Öl gegeben hat. Mit Silber und Gold habe ich sie überschüttet, sie aber hat alles ihrem Götzen Baal zu Füßen gelegt. 11 Darum soll sie zur Erntezeit kein Getreide und keinen Wein mehr von mir bekommen. Auch die Wolle und den Flachs für ihre Kleider nehme ich ihr wieder weg. 12 Vor den Augen ihrer Liebhaber ziehe ich sie nackt aus und stelle sie öffentlich zur Schau; niemand kann sie vor meiner Strafe bewahren. 13 Ihren Freudenfesten mache ich ein Ende, sie wird keinen Neumond oder Sabbat und kein anderes großes Fest mehr feiern. 14 Ich verwüste ihre Weinstöcke und Feigenbäume, von denen sie sagte: ›Das habe ich von meinen Freunden für meine Liebesdienste bekommen.‹ Alles, was sie gepflanzt hat, lasse ich von Gestrüpp überwuchern und von wilden Tieren abfressen.
15 Denn sie hat mich vergessen. Statt für mich hat sie für ihre Götzen Feste gefeiert und ihnen Opfer dargebracht. Sie hat sich mit Ringen und Ketten geschmückt und ist ihren Liebhabern nachgelaufen. Deshalb werde ich sie bestrafen. Darauf gebe ich, der Herr, mein Wort.«
Gott bleibt treu
16 »Doch dann werde ich versuchen, sie wiederzugewinnen: Ich will sie in die Wüste bringen und in aller Liebe mit ihr reden. 17 Dort wird sie auf meine Worte hören. Sie wird mich lieben wie damals in ihrer Jugend, als sie Ägypten verließ. Dann will ich ihr die Weinberge zurückgeben; das Achor-Tal (›Unglückstal‹)[b] soll für sie ein Tor der Hoffnung sein.
18 Ja, ich, der Herr, verspreche: An diesem Tag wird sie nicht mehr zu mir sagen: ›Mein Baal[c]‹, sondern sie wird mich wieder ihren Mann nennen. 19 Ich sorge dafür, dass sie den Namen Baal nicht mehr in den Mund nimmt; nie wieder wird sie die Namen anderer Götter erwähnen. 20 Ich will einen Bund schließen mit den wilden Tieren, den Vögeln und den Kriechtieren, damit sie ihr keinen Schaden zufügen. Ich werde die Kriege beenden und alle Bogen und Schwerter zerbrechen. Das alles werde ich tun, damit sie in Frieden und Sicherheit leben kann.
21 Die Ehe, die ich an diesem Tag mit dir, Israel, schließe, wird ewig bestehen. Ich schenke dir Liebe und Barmherzigkeit, ich gehe gut und gerecht mit dir um 22 und bleibe dir für immer treu. Dann wirst du erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin!
23 In jener Zeit werde ich die Bitten Israels erhören. Aus dem Himmel lasse ich Regen auf die Erde fallen, 24 und die Erde wird Getreide, Weintrauben und Oliven hervorbringen. Dann werden die Israeliten[d] genug zu essen haben und satt werden. 25 Sie sind die Saat, die ich ins Land zurückbringe, damit sie dort aufgeht und wächst. Israel wurde als eine Nation bezeichnet, ›die kein Erbarmen findet‹; doch die Zeit kommt, in der ich mich über mein Volk erbarmen werde. Es war einst ›nicht mein Volk‹; nun aber sage ich zu ihm: ›Du bist mein Volk‹, und Israel wird antworten: ›Du bist mein Gott!‹«

Gottes Züchtigung für Israel und seine Wiederannahme
2 Und doch wird die Zahl der Kinder Israels werden wie der Sand am Meer, den man nicht messen noch zählen kann; und es soll geschehen, an dem Ort, wo zu ihnen gesagt wurde:[a] »Ihr seid nicht mein Volk«,[b] da sollen sie »Söhne des lebendigen Gottes« genannt werden.
2 Dann werden die Söhne Judas und die Söhne Israels sich einmütig versammeln und über sich ein einziges Oberhaupt setzen und werden aus dem Land heraufziehen; denn der Tag von Jesreel wird groß sein.
3 Nennt eure Brüder »Mein Volk«, und eure Schwestern: »Begnadigte«[c]!
4 Weist eure Mutter zurecht; weist sie zurecht — denn sie ist nicht meine Frau, und ich bin nicht ihr Mann —, damit sie ihre Hurerei[d] von ihrem Angesicht wegschaffe und ihre Ehebrecherei von ihren Brüsten!
5 Sonst werde ich sie nackt ausziehen und sie hinstellen, wie sie war am Tag ihrer Geburt, und sie der Wüste gleichmachen, einem dürren Land, und sie sterben lassen vor Durst!
6 Und über ihre Kinder werde ich mich nicht erbarmen, weil sie Hurenkinder sind.
7 Denn ihre Mutter hat Hurerei getrieben; die sie geboren hat, bedeckte sich mit Schande; denn sie sprach: »Ich will doch meinen Liebhabern nachlaufen, die mir mein Brot und Wasser geben, meine Wolle, meinen Flachs, mein Öl und meinen Trank!«
8 Darum siehe, ich will deinen Weg mit Dornen verzäunen; ja, ich will eine Mauer für sie errichten, damit sie ihre Pfade nicht mehr finden soll.
9 Wenn sie dann ihren Liebhabern nachjagt und sie nicht mehr einholt, wenn sie sie sucht, aber nicht findet, so wird sie sagen: »Ich will hingehen und wieder zu meinem ersten Mann zurückkehren; denn damals hatte ich es besser als jetzt!«
10 Sie erkannte ja nicht, dass ich es war, der ihr das Korn, den Most und das Öl gab und ihr das Silber und Gold mehrte, das sie für den Baal verwendet haben.
11 Darum will ich mein Korn zurücknehmen zu seiner Zeit und meinen Most zu seiner Frist und will ihr meine Wolle und meinen Flachs entziehen, womit sie ihre Blöße bedeckt.
12 Und ich will nun ihre Schande enthüllen vor den Augen ihrer Liebhaber; und niemand wird sie aus meiner Hand erretten.
13 Und ich will aller ihrer Freude ein Ende machen, ihren Festen, ihren Neumondfeiern und ihren Sabbaten und allen ihren Feiertagen.
14 Ich will auch ihren Weinstock und ihren Feigenbaum verwüsten, von denen sie sagt: »Das ist der Lohn, den mir meine Liebhaber gegeben haben!« Ja, ich will sie in eine Wildnis verwandeln, dass sich die Tiere des Feldes davon nähren sollen.
15 Ich will sie strafen für die Festtage der Baale[e], an denen sie ihnen räucherte und sich mit ihren Ohrringen und ihrem Geschmeide schmückte und ihren Liebhabern nachlief und mich vergaß!, spricht der Herr.
16 Darum siehe, ich will sie locken und in die Wüste führen und ihr zu Herzen reden;
17 und ich will ihr von dort aus ihre Weinberge wiedergeben und ihr das Tal Achor[f] zu einer Tür der Hoffnung machen, dass sie dort singen soll wie in den Tagen ihrer Jugend und wie an dem Tag,[g] als sie aus dem Land Ägypten zog.
18 An jenem Tag wird es geschehen, spricht der Herr, dass du mich »mein Mann« und nicht mehr »mein Baal« nennen wirst;
19 und ich werde die Namen der Baale aus ihrem Mund entfernen, dass an ihre Namen nicht mehr gedacht werden soll.
20 An jenem Tag will ich auch zu ihren Gunsten einen Bund schließen mit den Tieren des Feldes und mit den Vögeln des Himmels und mit allem, was auf Erden kriecht; und ich will Bogen, Schwert und alles Kriegsgerät[h] im Land zerbrechen und sie sicher wohnen lassen.
21 Und ich will dich mir verloben auf ewig, ich will dich mir verloben in Gerechtigkeit und Recht[i], in Gnade und Erbarmen;
22 ja, ich will dich mir verloben in Treue, und du wirst den Herrn erkennen!
23 Und es soll geschehen an jenem Tag, spricht der Herr, da will ich antworten; ich will dem Himmel antworten, und er soll der Erde antworten;
24 und die Erde wird antworten mit Korn, Most und Öl, und diese werden Jesreel antworten.
25 Und ich will sie mir im Land ansäen und mich über die »Unbegnadigte«[j] erbarmen und zu »Nicht-mein-Volk«[k] sagen: »Du bist mein Volk!«, und es wird sagen: »Du bist mein Gott!«

on leur dira :

seront unis
et ils établiront sur eux ╵un chef unique,
ils sortiront ╵du pays de l’exil,

3 Vous direz à vos frères ╵qu’ils seront appelés : « Mon peuple »,
et à vos sœurs : « les Bien-Aimées ».

4 Intentez un procès ╵à votre mère[c], ╵faites-lui un procès,
car elle n’est pas mon épouse
et je ne suis pas son mari.
Qu’elle ôte de sa face ╵les marques des prostitutions ╵qu’elle a commises,
d’entre ses seins ╵les signes de ses adultères.
5 Sinon, je la dévêtirai, ╵et je la mettrai toute nue,
comme elle était au jour de sa naissance[d] ;
je la transformerai en un désert,
je ferai d’elle un pays desséché,
je la ferai mourir de soif.
6 Et quant à ses enfants, ╵je n’aurai plus d’amour pour eux,
car ce sont des enfants ╵prostitués[e].
7 Oui, leur mère s’est adonnée ╵à la prostitution,
la femme qui les a conçus ╵s’est couverte de honte,
puisqu’elle a affirmé : ╵« Moi, j’irai après mes amants
qui me fournissent ╵mon pain, mon eau,
mon lin, ma laine,
mon huile et mes boissons. »
8 Voilà pourquoi
je vais barrer ╵son chemin avec des épines,
je l’obstrue par un mur,
et elle ne trouvera plus sa route.
9 Elle poursuivra ses amants
sans pouvoir les atteindre,
elle les cherchera ╵sans pouvoir les trouver.
Puis elle se dira :
« Je vais m’en retourner ╵chez mon premier mari,
car j’étais alors plus heureuse ╵que maintenant. »
10 Or, elle n’avait pas compris ╵que c’était moi qui lui donnais
le blé, le vin nouveau et l’huile,
et de l’argent en abondance, ╵ainsi que l’or
dont ils ont fait ╵une offrande à Baal[f].
11 C’est pourquoi je viendrai reprendre
mon blé au temps de la moisson,
mon vin au temps de la vendange,
je leur retirerai ╵ma laine avec mon lin
dont elle s’habillait.
12 Mais maintenant, ╵je vais mettre au grand jour ╵son infamie
aux yeux de ses amants.
Et nul ne la délivrera ╵de mon emprise.
13 Et je ferai cesser ╵toutes ses réjouissances :
ses fêtes, ses nouvelles lunes ╵et ses sabbats,
oui, tous ses jours ╵de fête cultuelle.
14 Et je dévasterai ╵sa vigne et son figuier
dont elle a dit :
« Voyez, c’est le salaire ╵donné par mes amants. »
Je les réduirai en broussailles
et les bêtes sauvages ╵en feront leur pâture.
15 Je lui ferai payer
tout le temps qu’elle a consacré ╵au culte des Baals ╵lorsqu’elle leur offrait ╵du parfum en hommage,
parée d’anneaux et de bijoux
pour courir après ses amants,
et quant à moi, ╵elle m’a oublié,
l’Eternel le déclare.
La fidélité de Dieu triomphe de l’infidélité d’Israël
16 C’est pourquoi, je vais la reconquérir,
la mener au désert,
et parler à son cœur.
17 C’est là que je lui donnerai ╵ses vignobles d’antan
et la vallée d’Akor[g]
deviendra une porte d’espérance ;
là, elle répondra ╵tout comme au temps de sa jeunesse,
au temps de sa sortie d’Egypte.
18 Et il arrivera en ce temps-là,
l’Eternel le déclare,
que tu me diras : « Mon époux »
et tu ne m’appelleras plus : ╵« Mon maître[h] ».
19 J’ôterai de sa bouche ╵les noms des Baals,
et le souvenir même ╵de ces noms se perdra.
20 Je conclurai, en ce temps-là, ╵une alliance pour eux
avec les animaux sauvages
et les oiseaux du ciel,
et les animaux qui se meuvent ╵au ras du sol.
Je briserai l’arc et l’épée, ╵et je mettrai fin à la guerre : ╵ils disparaîtront du pays.
Et je les ferai reposer ╵dans la sécurité.
21 Puis, pour toujours, ╵je te fiancerai à moi.
Je te fiancerai à moi ╵en donnant comme dot[i] ╵et la justice et la droiture,
l’amour et la tendresse ╵que je mettrai en toi.
22 Je te fiancerai à moi ╵en mettant en toi la fidélité,
et tu connaîtras l’Eternel.
23 En ce temps-là, ╵je répondrai,
l’Eternel le déclare,
je répondrai à l’attente du ciel,
et le ciel répondra ╵à ce qu’attend la terre.
24 La terre répondra au blé,
au vin nouveau ╵ainsi qu’à l’huile fraîche,
et ceux-ci répondront ╵à l’attente de Jizréel[j].
25 Et je les répandrai ╵comme de la semence ╵pour moi dans le pays,
je prodiguerai mon amour ╵à celle qu’on nommait ╵Lo-Rouhama,
et je dirai à Lo-Ammi : ╵« Tu es mon peuple »,
et il dira : « Tu es mon Dieu[k]. »

for she is not my wife,
and I am not her husband.
Let her remove the adulterous(C) look from her face
and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.
3 Otherwise I will strip(D) her naked
and make her as bare as on the day she was born;(E)
I will make her like a desert,(F)
turn her into a parched land,
and slay her with thirst.
4 I will not show my love to her children,(G)
because they are the children of adultery.(H)
5 Their mother has been unfaithful
and has conceived them in disgrace.
She said, ‘I will go after my lovers,(I)
who give me my food and my water,
my wool and my linen, my olive oil and my drink.’(J)
6 Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes;
I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way.(K)
7 She will chase after her lovers but not catch them;
she will look for them but not find them.(L)

14 “Therefore I am now going to allure her;

and speak tenderly to her.
15 There I will give her back her vineyards,

16 “In that day,” declares the Lord,

2 Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;
3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.
4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.
5 For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.
7 And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
8 For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.
9 Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.
11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.
12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.
13 And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord.
14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.
15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
16 And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.
17 For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.
18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.
19 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.
20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the Lord, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;
22 And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.
23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.
