Yet I have been the (A)Lord your God
Since the land of Egypt;
And you were not to know (B)any god except Me,
For there is no savior (C)besides Me.
I [a](D)cared for you in the wilderness,
(E)In the land of drought.
As they had their pasture, they became (F)satisfied,
And as they became satisfied, their (G)heart became proud;
Therefore they (H)forgot Me.
So I will be (I)like a lion to them;
Like a (J)leopard I will [b]lie in wait by the wayside.
I will confront them (K)like a bear deprived of her cubs,
And I will tear open [c]their chests;
I will also (L)devour them there like a lioness,
As a wild animal would tear them to pieces.

The Lord is Israel’s God

“I am the Lord your God
    from the land of Egypt,
and you have known no god except for me,
    because except for me there is no savior.
I took care of[a] you in the wilderness,
    in a waterless land.
As their pastures flourished,
    all their desires were met.[b]
As they were satiated,
    they became arrogant
        and therefore ignored me.

“So I will be like a lion to them.
    Like a leopard I will stalk them along the road.
I will confront them like a bear deprived of her cubs;[c]
    I will tear open their ribs.
I will devour them like a lion—
    the wild beasts will rip them apart.
