⁸ Also the ^(A)high places of ^[a]Aven, ^(B)the sin of Israel,
Shall be destroyed.
The thorn and thistle shall grow on their altars;
^(C)They shall say to the mountains, “Cover us!”
And to the hills, “Fall on us!”

⁶ For indeed they are gone because of destruction.
Egypt shall gather them up;
Memphis shall bury them.
^(A)Nettles shall possess their valuables of silver;
Thorns shall be in their tents.

¹⁴ Those who ^(A)swear by ^(B)the ^[a]sin of Samaria,
Who say,
‘As your god lives, O Dan!’
And, ‘As the way of ^(C)Beersheba lives!’
They shall fall and never rise again.”

^13 (A)On the land of my people will come up thorns and briers,
Yes, on all the happy homes in ^(B)the joyous city;

¹³ O inhabitant of ^(A)Lachish,
Harness the chariot to the swift steeds
(She was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion),
For the transgressions of Israel were ^(B)found in you.
