¹² Anyone who shows contempt^(A) for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering^(B) there to the Lord your God is to be put to death.^(C) You must purge the evil from Israel.^(D)

³ “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ⁴ How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? ⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

⁶ “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

¹⁰ And if the relative who comes to carry the bodies out of the house to burn them^[a](A) asks anyone who might be hiding there, “Is anyone else with you?” and he says, “No,” then he will go on to say, “Hush!^(B) We must not mention the name of the Lord.”

²⁶ I will make your tongue stick to the roof^(A) of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious people.^(B)

¹⁸ They said, “Come, let’s make plans^(A) against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest^(B) will not cease, nor will counsel from the wise,^(C) nor the word from the prophets.^(D) So come, let’s attack him with our tongues^(E) and pay no attention to anything he says.”
