¹³ Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when their slain are among their idols all around their altars, ^(A)on every high hill, ^(B)on all the mountaintops, ^(C)under every green tree, and under every thick oak, wherever they offered sweet incense to all their idols.

A Call to Repentance

⁶ The Lord said also to me in the days of Josiah the king: “Have you seen what ^(A)backsliding Israel has done? She has ^(B)gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there played the harlot.

¹⁷ “Therefore^(A) thus says the Lord:

²³ and changed the glory of the ^(A)incorruptible ^(B)God into an image made like ^[a]corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

^24 (C)Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, ^(D)to dishonor their bodies ^(E)among themselves, ²⁵ who exchanged ^(F)the truth of God ^(G)for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

²⁶ For this reason God gave them up to ^(H)vile passions. For even their ^[b]women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. ²⁷ Likewise also the ^[c]men, leaving the natural use of the ^[d]woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things ^(I)which are not fitting;

²⁸ When I brought them into the land concerning which I had raised My hand in an oath to give them, and ^(A)they saw all the high hills and all the thick trees, there they offered their sacrifices and provoked Me with their offerings. There they also sent up their ^(B)sweet aroma and poured out their drink offerings. ²⁹ Then I said to them, ‘What is this ^[a]high place to which you go?’ So its name is called ^[b]Bamah to this day.” ’
