¹³ Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.

Amos Accused

¹⁰ Then Amaziah ^(C)the priest of Bethel sent to ^(D)Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has ^(E)conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. ¹¹ For thus Amos has said,

¹² And Amaziah said to Amos, ^(G)“O seer, go, flee away ^(H)to the land of Judah, and ^(I)eat bread there, and prophesy there, ¹³ but ^(J)never again prophesy at Bethel, for ^(K)it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, ^(L)“I was^[a] no prophet, nor a prophet's son, but ^(M)I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. ^15 (N)But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ ^16 (O)Now therefore hear the word of the Lord.

^17 (S)Therefore thus says the Lord:

¹⁴ But now the Lord has spoken, saying, “In three years, ^(A)like the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, in spite of all his great multitude, and those who remain will be ^(B)very few and feeble.”
