Hiob demütigt sich vor Gott
40 Weiter redete der Herr mit Hiob und sprach:
2 Will der Tadler mit dem Allmächtigen hadern? Wer Gott zurechtweisen will, der antworte nun!
3 Da antwortete Hiob dem Herrn und sprach:
4 Siehe, ich bin zu gering; was soll ich dir erwidern? Ich will meine Hand auf meinen Mund legen!
5 Ich habe einmal geredet und konnte nichts antworten, und noch ein zweites Mal, und ich will es nicht mehr tun!
Der Herr verweist Hiob auf seine Herrlichkeit und Macht
6 Und der Herr antwortete dem Hiob aus dem Gewittersturm und sprach:
7 Gürte doch deine Lenden wie ein Mann; ich will dich fragen, und du unterweise mich!
8 Willst du mein Rechtsurteil zunichtemachen, mich schuldig sprechen, damit du gerecht seist?
9 Ist denn dein Arm dem Arm Gottes gleich, oder sprichst du mit Donnerstimme wie er?
10 Schmücke dich doch mit Herrlichkeit und Hoheit, und bekleide dich mit Majestät und Pracht!
11 Gieße die Fluten deines Zornes aus; sieh jeden Hochmütigen an und demütige ihn!
12 Sieh jeden Hochmütigen an, erniedrige ihn; und zertrete die Gottlosen, wo sie stehen!
13 Begrabe sie miteinander im Staub, verhülle ihre Angesichter mit Finsternis!
14 Dann will auch ich dich preisen, dass deine Rechte dir zur Hilfe kommt.
Der Behemoth und seine Kraft
15 Sieh doch den Behemoth[a], den ich gemacht habe wie dich: Gras frisst er wie der Ochse!
16 Sieh doch, welche Kraft in seinen Lenden liegt und welche Stärke in seinen Bauchmuskeln!
17 Sein Schwanz streckt sich wie eine Zeder; die Sehnen seiner Schenkel sind fest verflochten.
18 Seine Knochen sind wie eherne Röhren, seine Gebeine wie Eisenstangen.
19 Er ist der Erstling der Wege Gottes; der ihn gemacht hat, reichte ihm sein Schwert.
20 Denn Futter tragen ihm die Berge, wo alle Tiere des Feldes spielen.
21 Unter Lotosgebüschen liegt er, versteckt im Rohr und Sumpf.
22 Lotosgebüsche bedecken ihn mit ihrem Schatten; die Bachweiden umgeben ihn.
23 Siehe, der Strom schwillt mächtig an — er fürchtet sich nicht; er bleibt auch ruhig, wenn ein Jordan sich in seinen Mund ergießt!
24 Kann man ihm in seine Augen greifen, kann man mit Fangseilen seine Nase durchbohren?
Der Leviathan ist für den Menschen unbezwingbar — »Wer aber kann vor mir bestehen?«
25 Ziehst du etwa den Leviathan[b] mit der Angel heraus, und kannst du seine Zunge mit einer Fangschnur fassen?
26 Kannst du ein Binsenseil durch seine Nase ziehen und einen Haken durch seine Kinnbacken stoßen?
27 Wird er dich lange anflehen oder dir freundliche Worte sagen?
28 Wird er einen Bund mit dir schließen, dass du ihn zum ewigen Knecht machst?
29 Kannst du mit ihm spielen wie mit einem Vögelchen oder ihn anbinden für deine Mädchen?
30 Feilschen etwa die Fischersleute um ihn, oder teilen ihn die Händler unter sich?
31 Kannst du seine Haut mit Spießen spicken und mit Fischharpunen seinen Kopf?
32 Lege doch deine Hand einmal an ihn — du wirst den Kampf nicht vergessen, wirst es nicht noch einmal tun!

40 El Señor dijo también a Job:
2 «¿Corregirá al Todopoderoso quien contra él contiende?
¡Que responda a Dios quien se atreve a acusarlo!».
3 Entonces Job respondió al Señor:
4 «¿Qué puedo responderte, si soy tan indigno?
¡Me tapo la boca con la mano!
5 Hablé una vez y no voy a responder;
hablé otra vez y no voy a insistir».
6 El Señor respondió a Job desde la tempestad. Le dijo:
7 «Prepárate a hacerme frente.
Yo te cuestionaré y tú me responderás.
8 »¿Vas acaso a invalidar mi justicia?
¿Me condenarás para justificarte?
9 ¿Tienes acaso un brazo como el mío?
¿Puede tu voz tronar como la mía?
10 Si es así, cúbrete de gloria y esplendor;
revístete de honra y majestad.
11 Da rienda suelta a la furia de tu ira;
mira a los orgullosos y humíllalos;
12 mira a los soberbios y somételos;
aplasta a los malvados donde se hallen.
13 Entiérralos a todos en el polvo;
amortaja sus rostros en la fosa.
14 Yo, por mi parte, reconoceré
que en tu mano derecha está la salvación.
15 »Mira a Behemot,[a] criatura mía igual que tú,
que se alimenta de hierba, como los bueyes.
16 ¡Cuánta fuerza hay en sus lomos!
¡Su poder está en los músculos de su vientre!
17 Su rabo se mece como un cedro;
los tendones de sus muslos se entrelazan.
18 Sus huesos son como barras de bronce;
sus piernas parecen barrotes de hierro.
19 Entre mis obras ocupa el primer lugar;
solo yo, su Hacedor, puedo acercármele con la espada.
20 Los montes le brindan sus frutos;
allí juguetean todos los animales salvajes.
21 Debajo de las plantas de lotos se tiende a descansar;
se oculta entre los juncos del pantano.
22 Los lotos le brindan su sombra;
los álamos junto al río lo envuelven.
23 No se alarma si brama el río;
vive tranquilo, aunque el Jordán le llegue al hocico.
24 ¿Quién ante sus ojos se atreve a capturarlo?
¿Quién puede atraparlo y perforarle la nariz?

2 ¿Es sabiduría contender con el Omnipotente?
El que disputa con Dios, responda a esto.
3 Entonces respondió Job a Jehová, y dijo:
4 He aquí que yo soy vil; ¿qué te responderé?
Mi mano pongo sobre mi boca.
5 Una vez hablé, mas no responderé;
Aun dos veces, mas no volveré a hablar.
Manifestaciones del poder de Dios
6 Respondió Jehová a Job desde el torbellino, y dijo:
7 Cíñete ahora como varón tus lomos;
Yo te preguntaré, y tú me responderás.
8 ¿Invalidarás tú también mi juicio?
¿Me condenarás a mí, para justificarte tú?
9 ¿Tienes tú un brazo como el de Dios?
¿Y truenas con voz como la suya?
10 Adórnate ahora de majestad y de alteza,
Y vístete de honra y de hermosura.
11 Derrama el ardor de tu ira;
Mira a todo altivo, y abátelo.
12 Mira a todo soberbio, y humíllalo,
Y quebranta a los impíos en su sitio.
13 Encúbrelos a todos en el polvo,
Encierra sus rostros en la oscuridad;
14 Y yo también te confesaré
Que podrá salvarte tu diestra.
15 He aquí ahora behemot, el cual hice como a ti;
Hierba come como buey.
16 He aquí ahora que su fuerza está en sus lomos,
Y su vigor en los músculos de su vientre.
17 Su cola mueve como un cedro,
Y los nervios de sus muslos están entretejidos.
18 Sus huesos son fuertes como bronce,
Y sus miembros como barras de hierro.
19 Él es el principio de los caminos de Dios;
El que lo hizo, puede hacer que su espada a él se acerque.
20 Ciertamente los montes producen hierba para él;
Y toda bestia del campo retoza allá.
21 Se echará debajo de las sombras,
En lo oculto de las cañas y de los lugares húmedos.
22 Los árboles sombríos lo cubren con su sombra;
Los sauces del arroyo lo rodean.
23 He aquí, sale de madre el río, pero él no se inmuta;
Tranquilo está, aunque todo un Jordán se estrelle contra su boca.
24 ¿Lo tomará alguno cuando está vigilante,
Y horadará su nariz?

2 “Will the one who contends with the Almighty(B) correct him?(C)
Let him who accuses God answer him!”(D)
3 Then Job answered the Lord:
4 “I am unworthy(E)—how can I reply to you?
I put my hand over my mouth.(F)
5 I spoke once, but I have no answer(G)—
twice, but I will say no more.”(H)
6 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm:(I)
7 “Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.(J)
8 “Would you discredit my justice?(K)
Would you condemn me to justify yourself?(L)
9 Do you have an arm like God’s,(M)
and can your voice(N) thunder like his?(O)
10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,
and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.(P)
11 Unleash the fury of your wrath,(Q)
look at all who are proud and bring them low,(R)
12 look at all who are proud(S) and humble them,(T)
crush(U) the wicked where they stand.
13 Bury them all in the dust together;(V)
shroud their faces in the grave.(W)
14 Then I myself will admit to you
that your own right hand can save you.(X)
15 “Look at Behemoth,
which I made(Y) along with you
and which feeds on grass like an ox.(Z)
16 What strength(AA) it has in its loins,
what power in the muscles of its belly!(AB)
17 Its tail sways like a cedar;
the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.(AC)
18 Its bones are tubes of bronze,
its limbs(AD) like rods of iron.(AE)
19 It ranks first among the works of God,(AF)
yet its Maker(AG) can approach it with his sword.(AH)
20 The hills bring it their produce,(AI)
and all the wild animals play(AJ) nearby.(AK)
21 Under the lotus plants it lies,
hidden among the reeds(AL) in the marsh.(AM)
22 The lotuses conceal it in their shadow;
the poplars by the stream(AN) surround it.
23 A raging river(AO) does not alarm it;
it is secure, though the Jordan(AP) should surge against its mouth.
24 Can anyone capture it by the eyes,
or trap it and pierce its nose?(AQ)
