Elihu verkündet das Heilswerk Gottes
33 Doch höre nun, Hiob, meine Rede,
und fasse alle meine Worte!
2 Siehe doch, ich öffne meinen Mund,
es redet die Zunge an meinem Gaumen;
3 Meine Reden kommen aus aufrichtigem Herzen,
und meine Lippen sprechen lautere Wahrheit aus.
4 Der Geist Gottes hat mich gemacht,
und der Odem des Allmächtigen belebt mich.
5 Kannst du es, so widerlege mich;
rüste dich, tritt vor mich hin!
6 Siehe, ich stehe zu Gott, gleich wie du;
auch ich bin vom Lehm genommen.
7 Siehe, Furcht vor mir soll dich nicht schrecken,
und ich will dir nicht lästig sein.
8 Nun hast du vor meinen Ohren gesagt,
und ich habe deine eigenen Worte gehört:
9 „Rein bin ich, ohne Vergehen,
unbefleckt und ohne Schuld!
10 Siehe, er erfindet Beschuldigungen gegen mich,
er hält mich für seinen Feind;
11 er legt meine Füße in den Stock
und lauert auf alle meine Schritte.“
12 Siehe, das sagst du nicht mit Recht, darauf muß ich dir antworten;
denn Gott ist größer als der Mensch.
13 Warum haderst du denn mit ihm,
da er doch keine seiner Taten zu verantworten hat?
14 Sondern Gott redet einmal
und zum zweitenmal, aber man beachtet es nicht.
15 Im Traum, im Nachtgesicht,
wenn tiefer Schlaf die Menschen befällt
und sie in ihren Betten schlafen,
16 da öffnet er das Ohr der Menschen
und besiegelt seine Warnung an sie,
17 damit der Mensch von seinem Tun abstehe
und er den Mann vor Übermut beschütze,
18 daß er seine Seele von der Grube zurückhalte,
und sein Leben, daß er nicht renne ins Geschoß.
19 Er züchtigt ihn mit Schmerzen auf seinem Lager,
ein hartes Gericht geht über seinen Leib,
20 daß ihm das Brot zum Ekel wird,
seiner Seele die Lieblingsspeise;
21 sein Fleisch schwindet dahin, man sieht es nicht mehr,
und seine Gebeine, die man sonst nicht sah, werden bloß;
22 seine Seele naht sich der Grube
und sein Leben den Todesmächten.
23 Wenn es dann für ihn einen Engel gibt, einen Mittler,
einen aus Tausenden,
der dem Menschen verkündigt seine Gerechtigkeit;
24 wenn er sich über ihn erbarmt und spricht:
„Erlöse ihn, daß er nicht zur Grube hinabfahre;
ich habe ein Lösegeld gefunden!“
25 Alsdann wird sein Fleisch wieder grünen von Jugendfrische,
er wird wiederkehren zu den Tagen seiner Jugend;
26 er wird zu Gott bitten, der wird ihm gnädig sein,
ihn sein Angesicht mit Jauchzen sehen lassen
und dem Menschen seine Gerechtigkeit wiedergeben.
27 Er wird singen vor den Menschen und sagen:
Ich hatte gesündigt und das Recht verkehrt;
aber er hat mir nicht vergolten nach Verdienst;
28 er hat meine Seele erlöst, daß sie nicht in die Grube gefahren ist,
so daß mein Leben das Licht wieder sieht!
29 Siehe, dies alles tut Gott
zwei- oder dreimal mit dem Menschen,
30 daß er seine Seele vom Verderben herumhole
und ihn erleuchte mit dem Lichte der Lebendigen.
31 Merke auf, Hiob, höre mir zu,
schweige, und ich will reden!
32 Hast du aber Worte, so antworte mir,
sage her, denn ich wünsche deine Rechtfertigung;
33 wo aber nicht, so höre mir zu, schweige,
und ich will dich Weisheit lehren!

33 “But now, Job, listen(A) to my words;
pay attention to everything I say.(B)
2 I am about to open my mouth;
my words are on the tip of my tongue.
3 My words come from an upright heart;(C)
my lips sincerely speak what I know.(D)
4 The Spirit(E) of God has made me;(F)
the breath of the Almighty(G) gives me life.(H)
5 Answer me(I) then, if you can;
stand up(J) and argue your case before me.(K)
6 I am the same as you in God’s sight;(L)
I too am a piece of clay.(M)
7 No fear of me should alarm you,
nor should my hand be heavy on you.(N)
8 “But you have said in my hearing—
I heard the very words—
9 ‘I am pure,(O) I have done no wrong;(P)
I am clean and free from sin.(Q)
10 Yet God has found fault with me;
he considers me his enemy.(R)
11 He fastens my feet in shackles;(S)
he keeps close watch on all my paths.’(T)
12 “But I tell you, in this you are not right,
for God is greater than any mortal.(U)
13 Why do you complain to him(V)
that he responds to no one’s words[a]?(W)
14 For God does speak(X)—now one way, now another(Y)—
though no one perceives it.(Z)
15 In a dream,(AA) in a vision(AB) of the night,(AC)
when deep sleep(AD) falls on people
as they slumber in their beds,
16 he may speak(AE) in their ears
and terrify them(AF) with warnings,(AG)
17 to turn them from wrongdoing
and keep them from pride,(AH)
18 to preserve them from the pit,(AI)
their lives from perishing by the sword.[b](AJ)
19 “Or someone may be chastened(AK) on a bed of pain(AL)
with constant distress in their bones,(AM)
20 so that their body finds food(AN) repulsive
and their soul loathes the choicest meal.(AO)
21 Their flesh wastes away to nothing,
and their bones,(AP) once hidden, now stick out.(AQ)
22 They draw near to the pit,(AR)
and their life to the messengers of death.[c](AS)
23 Yet if there is an angel at their side,
a messenger,(AT) one out of a thousand,
sent to tell them how to be upright,(AU)
24 and he is gracious to that person and says to God,
‘Spare them from going down to the pit;(AV)
I have found a ransom for them(AW)—
25 let their flesh be renewed(AX) like a child’s;
let them be restored as in the days of their youth’(AY)—
26 then that person can pray to God and find favor with him,(AZ)
they will see God’s face and shout for joy;(BA)
he will restore them to full well-being.(BB)
27 And they will go to others and say,
‘I have sinned,(BC) I have perverted what is right,(BD)
but I did not get what I deserved.(BE)
28 God has delivered(BF) me from going down to the pit,(BG)
and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’(BH)

33 »Job, te ruego que escuches lo que voy a decir: 2 Ya comencé a hablar; ahora déjame proseguir. 3 Diré la verdad desnuda. 4 Porque el espíritu de Dios me hizo: el hálito del Todopoderoso me da vida. 5 Si puedes responderme, no te detengas. 6 Mira, yo soy el que anhelabas: el intermediario entre tú y Dios, para actuar en representación de él y de ti. 7 No tienes por qué temerme. No soy persona famosa, que pueda ponerte nervioso o intimidarte. Yo también estoy hecho del barro común.
8 »Has dicho ante mis oídos; y varias veces, por cierto: 9 “Soy puro, soy inocente; no he pecado”. 10 Dices que Dios emplea un rastrillo muy fino tratando de hallar aunque sólo sea una falta, para tenerte por enemigo suyo. 11 “El mete mis pies en el cepo”, dices tú, “y vigila cada uno de mis movimientos”.
12 »Pues bien, esta es mi respuesta: Precisamente has pecado al hablar así de Dios. Porque Dios es más grande que el hombre. 13 ¿Por qué tienes que luchar contra él sólo porque no te rinde cuentas de lo que hace? 14 Porque Dios habla repetidamente 15 en sueños, en visiones nocturnas, cuando el sueño profundo cae sobre los hombres mientras yacen en sus lechos. 16 En tales ocasiones Dios les abre los oídos y les da sabiduría e instrucción, 17-18 haciéndoles cambiar de opinión, guardándolos del orgullo, y previniéndolos sobre los castigos del pecado, y evitando que caigan en algún lazo.
19 »A veces, Dios envía la enfermedad y el dolor, aunque no rompa ningún hueso, 20 de modo que el hombre pierde el gusto y el apetito, sin que le llame la atención ni el más delicioso manjar. 21 Se enflaquece; se vuelve huesos y pellejo, 22 y llega al borde de la muerte.
23-24 »Pero si hay un mensajero del cielo que interceda por él como amigo, para mostrarle lo que es recto, entonces Dios se compadece de él y dice: “Pónganlo en libertad; no lo hagan morir, pues he hallado un sustituto”. 25 Entonces el cuerpo se le volverá sano como el de un niño, robusto y juvenil otra vez. 26 Y cuando ore, Dios lo escuchará; contestará su oración y lo recibirá gozoso, y lo hará volver a sus deberes. 27 Y el hombre le declarará a sus amigos: “Pequé, pero Dios me dejó libre. 28 No me hizo morir. Continuaré viviendo en el mundo de la luz”.
29 »Sí, Dios suele hacer esto en favor del hombre. 30 Saca del hoyo su alma, para que pueda vivir bajo la luz de los vivientes.
31 »Fíjate bien en esto, Job, escúchame y déjame decir algo más. 32 Pero si ahora tienes algo que decir, dilo. Quiero escucharlo, pues estoy deseoso de justificarte. 33 De lo contrario, escúchame. ¡Mantén silencio, y yo te enseñaré sabiduría!».

33 Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4 The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5 If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8 Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
20 So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24 Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27 He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29 Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32 If thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33 If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

33 “But please, Job, hear my speech,
And listen to all my words.
2 Now, I open my mouth;
My tongue speaks in my mouth.
3 My words come from my upright heart;
My lips utter pure knowledge.
4 (A)The Spirit of God has made me,
And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
5 If you can answer me,
Set your words in order before me;
Take your stand.
6 (B)Truly I am [a]as your spokesman before God;
I also have been formed out of clay.
7 (C)Surely no fear of me will terrify you,
Nor will my hand be heavy on you.
8 “Surely you have spoken [b]in my hearing,
And I have heard the sound of your words, saying,
9 ‘I(D) am pure, without transgression;
I am innocent, and there is no iniquity in me.
10 Yet He finds occasions against me,
(E)He counts me as His enemy;

12 “Look, in this you are not righteous.
I will answer you,

29 “Behold, God works all these things,
Twice, in fact, three times with a man,
