Det nya templets tjänare
44 Därefter förde han mig tillbaka mot helgedomens yttre port, den som vette åt öster. Den var nu stängd. 2 Herren sade till mig: "Denna port skall förbli stängd och inte mer öppnas, och ingen skall gå in genom den, ty Herren, Israels Gud, har gått in genom den. Därför skall den vara stängd. 3 Dock skall fursten, eftersom han är furste, få sitta där och äta sitt bröd inför Herrens ansikte. Han skall då gå in genom portens förhus, och samma väg skall han gå ut igen."
4 Sedan förde han mig genom norra porten till platsen framför huset. Jag fick då se hur Herrens härlighet uppfyllde Herrens hus. Då föll jag ner på mitt ansikte. 5 Herren sade till mig: "Du människobarn, ge akt på och se med dina ögon och hör med dina öron allt vad jag nu säger till dig om alla stadgar angående Herrens hus och om alla lagar som rör det. Lägg märke till ingången till huset och helgedomens alla utgångar. 6 Säg till Israels hus, det upproriska: Så säger Herren, Herren: Nu får det vara nog med alla vidrigheter ni har bedrivit, ni av Israels hus. 7 Ni har låtit främlingar med oomskuret hjärta och oomskuret kött komma in i min helgedom och vara där, så att mitt hus har blivit vanhelgat, medan ni bar fram min mat, fett och blod. Mitt förbund har därmed brutits, för att inte tala om alla era andra vidrigheter. 8 Ni har inte själva utfört tjänsten vid mina heliga föremål, utan ni har satt andra att göra tjänst åt er i min helgedom.
9 Men så säger Herren, Herren: Ingen främling med oomskuret hjärta och oomskuret kött får komma in i min helgedom, ingen av de främlingar som finns bland Israels barn. 10 Också de leviter som gick bort ifrån mig när Israel for vilse, de som då själva for vilse och gick bort ifrån mig och följde sina avgudar, de måste bära sin missgärning. 11 De skall i min helgedom svara för vakttjänstgöringen vid husets portar och annan tjänstgöring i huset. De skall slakta brännoffer och slaktoffer åt folket och skall stå inför dem och betjäna dem. 12 Eftersom de betjänade dem inför deras avgudar och därmed var en orsak till synd för Israels folk, därför har jag svurit med upplyft hand, säger Herren, Herren, att de skall få bära sin missgärning. 13 De skall inte få komma mig nära för att tjäna som präster inför mig eller för att komma nära mina heliga föremål, de högheliga, utan de skall bära sin skam och de avskyvärda synder som de har bedrivit. 14 Jag skall låta dem sköta om tempelbyggnaden och utföra allt arbete i den och allt som där skall göras.
15 Men de levitiska präster, nämligen Sadoks söner, som tjänstgjorde vid min helgedom, när de övriga israeliterna for vilse och gick bort ifrån mig, de skall få träda fram till mig för att göra tjänst inför mig. De skall stå inför mitt ansikte för att offra fett och blod åt mig, säger Herren, Herren. 16 De skall gå in i min helgedom, och de skall träda fram till mitt bord för att tjänstgöra inför mig och utföra vad som skall utföras åt mig. 17 När de kommer in i den inre förgårdens portar, skall de ta på sig linnekläder. De får inte ha på sig något av ylle, när de gör tjänst i den inre förgårdens portar och inne i templet. 18 De skall ha huvudbonader av linne på huvudet och benkläder av linne runt höfterna. De får inte klä sig i något som gör att de svettas. 19 När de sedan går ut på den yttre förgården, till folket på den yttre förgården, skall de ta av sig de kläder som de gjort tjänst i och lämna kvar dem i helgedomens tempelkamrar och klä sig i andra kläder, så att de inte gör folket heligt med sina kläder.
20 De skall inte raka huvudet, men inte heller låta håret växa fritt utan klippa sitt huvudhår kort. 21 Vin får ingen präst dricka när han har kommit in på den inre förgården. 22 En änka eller en frånskild kvinna får han inte ta till hustru utan endast en jungfru av Israels släkt. Men han får ta en änka, om hon är änka efter en präst. 23 De skall lära mitt folk att skilja mellan heligt och oheligt och undervisa dem om skillnaden mellan orent och rent. 24 I rättstvister skall de uppträda som domare och skall döma efter mina bud. Mina lagar och stadgar skall de iaktta vid alla mina högtider, och mina sabbater skall de hålla heliga.
25 Ingen av dem får orena sig genom att gå in till en död. Endast genom far eller mor, son eller dotter eller bror, eller genom en syster som inte har tillhört någon man får han orena sig. 26 Men när han därefter har blivit ren, måste han vänta ytterligare sju dagar, 27 och den dag, då han går in i helgedomen, på den inre förgården, för att göra tjänst i helgedomen, skall han bära fram ett syndoffer för sig, säger Herren, Herren.
28 Detta skall vara deras arvedel, att jag själv är deras arvedel. Ni skall inte ge dem någon egendom i Israel, ty jag själv är deras egendom. 29 Matoffret, syndoffret och skuldoffret skall de äta, och allt tillspillogivet i Israel skall tillhöra dem. 30 Det första av förstlingsfrukterna och alla slags offergåvor, vad ni än bär fram som offergåva, skall tillhöra prästerna. Det första av ert mjöl skall ni ge åt prästen, för att välsignelse skall vila över ditt hus. 31 Inget självdött eller ihjälrivet djur får prästerna äta, vare sig fågel eller boskapsdjur.

Förhållningsorder för prästerna
44 Sedan förde Herren mig tillbaka till den yttre murens östra port, men den var stängd.
2 Han sa till mig:Den här porten ska förbli stängd. Den kommer aldrig att öppnas. Ingen människa ska gå genom den, för Herren, Israels Gud, kom in genom den, och därför ska den förbli stängd.
3 Bara fursten, därför att han är en furste, kan få sitta inne i porthuset och delta i en festmåltid inför Herren. Men han får bara gå och komma genom portens entréhall.
4 Därefter ledde han mig genom den norra porten till templets framsida. Därifrån såg jag hur Herrens härlighet fyllde templet. Då kastade jag mig ner med ansiktet mot marken.
5 Herren sa till mig:Du människa, lägg noga märke till allt! Använd både ögon och öron! Hör noga på när jag redogör för de lagar och förordningar som gäller för Herrens tempel. Lägg noga märke till vem som har tillträde till templet och vem som är utestängd från det.
6 Tala också om för upprorsmakarna, Israels folk, vad Herren Gud säger: Israel, du har syndat svårt
7 då du låtit dessa oomskurna, som inte har något hjärta för mig, få komma in i min helgedom under det att du offrade kött, fett och blod till mig. På så sätt har du genom att bryta mitt förbund lagt ett nytt brott till alla dina andra synder.
8 Du har inte hållit de lagar jag gav dig beträffande de heliga tingen, för du har lejt främlingar till att ta hand om min helgedom i stället för att utföra din tjänst.
9 Herren Gud säger: Ingen främling bland er ska få gå in i min helgedom, om han inte har låtit omskära sig och lärt sig älska både Herren och medmänniskor.
10 De män av Levi stam som övergav mig när Israel vände sig bort från Gud för att tillbe avgudar måste straffas för sin otrohet.
11 De kan få bli tempelvakter och dörrvaktare. De kan få slakta offerdjuren och vara där för att hjälpa folket,
12 men därför att de uppmuntrade folket att tillbe andra gudar och fick Israel att synda så svårt, har jag lyft min hand och bestämt att de ska straffas, säger Herren Gud.
13 De ska inte få komma i min närhet för att tjäna mig som präster. De får inte röra några av mina heliga ting, för de måste bära skammen för alla de synder de har begått.
14 De ska få vara vaktmästare i templet, sköta underhållet där och hjälpa folket i största allmänhet.
15 Men Sadoks barn av Levi stam fortsatte som mina präster i templet när Israel övergav mig för att tillbe avgudar. De ska vara mina tjänare. De ska stå inför mig och offra fettet och blodet från offren, säger Herren Gud.
16 Bara de får gå in i min helgedom och komma till mitt bord för att tjäna inför mig. De ska uträtta vad de får i uppdrag av mig att göra.
17 De ska bära linnekläder när de går in genom porten till den inre förgården. De får inte ha något av ull på sig när de gör tjänst på inre förgården eller i templet.
18 De måste ha linneturbaner och linnebyxor. De får inte bära något som kan få dem att svettas.
19 När de går tillbaka till den yttre förgården måste de ta av sig tjänstekläderna och lämna dem i de heliga rummen och byta till andra kläder, för om de kommer i beröring med någon av folket när de har dessa kläder på sig blir denne helgad genom detta.
20 De får inte låta sitt hår växa för långt, men inte heller raka av det fullständigt. Håret ska vara välvårdat.
21 Ingen präst får dricka vin innan han ska gå in på den inre förgården.
22 En präst får bara gifta sig med en judisk flicka eller änkan efter en präst. Han får inte gifta sig med en annan änka eller med en frånskild kvinna.
23 Prästerna ska lära mitt folk skillnaden mellan det som är heligt och det som är oheligt, mellan vad som är rätt och vad som är fel.
24 De ska tjäna som domare och lösa tvister bland mitt folk. Deras beslut måste vara grundade på mina lagar, och själva måste de följa mina lagar och föreskrifter vid alla de heliga högtiderna och se till att sabbaten hålls helig.
25 En präst får inte orena sig genom att komma i närheten av en död, om det inte är hans far, mor, barn, bror eller ogifta syster.
26 Men efteråt måste han vänta i sju dagar, innan han är ren och kan fullgöra sina plikter i templet.
27 Första dagen han är tillbaka i tjänst och går in på den inre förgården, ska han bära fram ett syndoffer för sig, säger Herren Gud.
28 En präst ska inte äga mark. Jag, Herren, är prästernas arv.
29 Deras mat ska bestå av de gåvor och offer som folket bär fram i templet: spisoffer, syndoffer och skuldoffer. Det som ges till Herren tillfaller prästerna.
30 Det bästa av den första frukten och alla gåvor till Herren ska tillfalla prästerna. Det första av varje spannmålsskörd ska skänkas till prästerna, så att Herren kan välsigna era hem.
31 Präster får aldrig äta kött av en fågel eller av ett djur som dött en naturlig död eller dödats av rovdjur.

44 Then the man brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, the one facing east,(A) and it was shut. 2 The Lord said to me, “This gate is to remain shut. It must not be opened; no one may enter through it.(B) It is to remain shut because the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered through it. 3 The prince himself is the only one who may sit inside the gateway to eat in the presence(C) of the Lord. He is to enter by way of the portico of the gateway and go out the same way.(D)”
4 Then the man brought me by way of the north gate(E) to the front of the temple. I looked and saw the glory of the Lord filling the temple(F) of the Lord, and I fell facedown.(G)
5 The Lord said to me, “Son of man, look carefully, listen closely and give attention to everything I tell you concerning all the regulations and instructions regarding the temple of the Lord. Give attention to the entrance(H) to the temple and all the exits of the sanctuary.(I) 6 Say to rebellious Israel,(J) ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Enough of your detestable practices, people of Israel! 7 In addition to all your other detestable practices, you brought foreigners uncircumcised in heart(K) and flesh into my sanctuary, desecrating my temple while you offered me food, fat and blood, and you broke my covenant.(L) 8 Instead of carrying out your duty in regard to my holy things, you put others in charge of my sanctuary.(M) 9 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: No foreigner uncircumcised in heart and flesh is to enter my sanctuary, not even the foreigners who live among the Israelites.(N)
10 “‘The Levites who went far from me when Israel went astray(O) and who wandered from me after their idols must bear the consequences of their sin.(P) 11 They may serve in my sanctuary, having charge of the gates of the temple and serving in it; they may slaughter the burnt offerings(Q) and sacrifices for the people and stand before the people and serve them.(R) 12 But because they served them in the presence of their idols and made the people of Israel fall(S) into sin, therefore I have sworn with uplifted hand(T) that they must bear the consequences of their sin, declares the Sovereign Lord.(U) 13 They are not to come near to serve me as priests or come near any of my holy things or my most holy offerings; they must bear the shame(V) of their detestable practices.(W) 14 And I will appoint them to guard the temple for all the work that is to be done in it.(X)
15 “‘But the Levitical priests, who are descendants of Zadok(Y) and who guarded my sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from me, are to come near to minister before me; they are to stand before me to offer sacrifices of fat(Z) and blood, declares the Sovereign Lord.(AA) 16 They alone are to enter my sanctuary; they alone are to come near my table(AB) to minister before me and serve me as guards.(AC)
17 “‘When they enter the gates of the inner court, they are to wear linen clothes;(AD) they must not wear any woolen garment while ministering at the gates of the inner court or inside the temple. 18 They are to wear linen turbans(AE) on their heads and linen undergarments(AF) around their waists. They must not wear anything that makes them perspire.(AG) 19 When they go out into the outer court where the people are, they are to take off the clothes they have been ministering in and are to leave them in the sacred rooms, and put on other clothes, so that the people are not consecrated(AH) through contact with their garments.(AI)
20 “‘They must not shave(AJ) their heads or let their hair grow long, but they are to keep the hair of their heads trimmed.(AK) 21 No priest is to drink wine when he enters the inner court.(AL) 22 They must not marry widows or divorced women; they may marry only virgins of Israelite descent or widows of priests.(AM) 23 They are to teach my people the difference between the holy and the common(AN) and show them how to distinguish between the unclean and the clean.(AO)
24 “‘In any dispute, the priests are to serve as judges(AP) and decide it according to my ordinances. They are to keep my laws and my decrees for all my appointed festivals,(AQ) and they are to keep my Sabbaths holy.(AR)
25 “‘A priest must not defile himself by going near a dead person; however, if the dead person was his father or mother, son or daughter, brother or unmarried sister, then he may defile himself.(AS) 26 After he is cleansed, he must wait seven days.(AT) 27 On the day he goes into the inner court of the sanctuary(AU) to minister in the sanctuary, he is to offer a sin offering[a](AV) for himself, declares the Sovereign Lord.
28 “‘I am to be the only inheritance(AW) the priests have. You are to give them no possession in Israel; I will be their possession. 29 They will eat(AX) the grain offerings, the sin offerings and the guilt offerings; and everything in Israel devoted[b] to the Lord(AY) will belong to them.(AZ) 30 The best of all the firstfruits(BA) and of all your special gifts will belong to the priests. You are to give them the first portion of your ground meal(BB) so that a blessing(BC) may rest on your household.(BD) 31 The priests must not eat anything, whether bird or animal, found dead(BE) or torn by wild animals.(BF)

2 Then said the Lord unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the Lord, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.
3 It is for the prince; the prince, he shall sit in it to eat bread before the Lord; he shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate, and shall go out by the way of the same.
4 Then brought he me the way of the north gate before the house: and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord: and I fell upon my face.
5 And the Lord said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
6 And thou shalt say to the rebellious, even to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; O ye house of Israel, let it suffice you of all your abominations,
7 In that ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers, uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to pollute it, even my house, when ye offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant because of all your abominations.
8 And ye have not kept the charge of mine holy things: but ye have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for yourselves.
9 Thus saith the Lord God; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
10 And the Levites that are gone away far from me, when Israel went astray, which went astray away from me after their idols; they shall even bear their iniquity.
11 Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister unto them.
12 Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord God, and they shall bear their iniquity.
13 And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
14 But I will make them keepers of the charge of the house, for all the service thereof, and for all that shall be done therein.
15 But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord God:
16 They shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near to my table, to minister unto me, and they shall keep my charge.
17 And it shall come to pass, that when they enter in at the gates of the inner court, they shall be clothed with linen garments; and no wool shall come upon them, whiles they minister in the gates of the inner court, and within.
18 They shall have linen bonnets upon their heads, and shall have linen breeches upon their loins; they shall not gird themselves with any thing that causeth sweat.
19 And when they go forth into the utter court, even into the utter court to the people, they shall put off their garments wherein they ministered, and lay them in the holy chambers, and they shall put on other garments; and they shall not sanctify the people with their garments.
20 Neither shall they shave their heads, nor suffer their locks to grow long; they shall only poll their heads.
21 Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.
22 Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.
23 And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
24 And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to my judgments: and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine assemblies; and they shall hallow my sabbaths.
25 And they shall come at no dead person to defile themselves: but for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may defile themselves.
26 And after he is cleansed, they shall reckon unto him seven days.
27 And in the day that he goeth into the sanctuary, unto the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, he shall offer his sin offering, saith the Lord God.
28 And it shall be unto them for an inheritance: I am their inheritance: and ye shall give them no possession in Israel: I am their possession.
29 They shall eat the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering: and every dedicated thing in Israel shall be theirs.
30 And the first of all the firstfruits of all things, and every oblation of all, of every sort of your oblations, shall be the priest's: ye shall also give unto the priest the first of your dough, that he may cause the blessing to rest in thine house.
31 The priests shall not eat of any thing that is dead of itself, or torn, whether it be fowl or beast.
