Gud kallar Hesekiel till profet
2 (A) Han sade till mig: ”Människobarn,[a] res dig på dina fötter så ska jag tala med dig.” 2 (B) När han talade till mig, kom Anden in i mig och reste upp mig på mina fötter. Och jag hörde honom tala till mig, 3 han sade: ”Människobarn, jag sänder dig till Israels barn, till de avfälliga folken som har gjort uppror mot mig. De och deras fäder har syndat mot mig ända till i dag. 4 (C) Till barnen med fräck uppsyn och hårda hjärtan sänder jag dig, och du ska säga till dem: Så säger Herren Gud[b]. 5 (D) Vare sig de lyssnar eller inte – för de är ett upproriskt släkte – ska de ändå inse att en profet har varit ibland dem.
6 (E) Och du människobarn, var inte rädd för dem och var inte rädd för deras ord, trots att du omges av tistlar och törnen och bor bland skorpioner. Bli inte rädd för deras ord och tappa inte modet, för de är ett upproriskt släkte. 7 (F) Du ska tala mina ord till dem vare sig de lyssnar eller inte, för de är upproriska.

8 (G) Men du människobarn, hör vad jag talar till dig. Var inte upprorisk som detta upproriska släkte. Öppna din mun och ät vad jag ger dig.” 9 Och jag såg en hand räckas ut mot mig, och i den såg jag en bokrulle. 10 Han bredde ut den framför mig. Den var fullskriven på insidan och utsidan, och där stod skrivet sorgesånger, suckan och jämmerrop.

2 Rösten sa: Stå upp, du människa, så ska jag tala till dig.
2 Och medan han talade kom anden in i mig och reste upp mig på fötterna, och jag hörde honom säga:
3 Du människa, jag sänder dig till Israels folk, ett folk som gör uppror mot mig. De och deras förfäder har syndat mot mig fram till denna stund.
4 De är ett hårdhjärtat och envist folk. Men jag sänder dig till dem för att ge dem budskap från mig.
5 Och vare sig dessa rebeller lyssnar eller inte, kommer de i alla fall att få veta att de har en profet ibland sig.
6 Du människa, var inte rädd för dem! Var inte rädd ens när deras hotelser är skarpa och hätska och sticker som skorpioner. Bli inte förskräckt när du hör deras ord, för kom ihåg att de är upproriska!
7 Du måste låta dem få höra mina ord vare sig de lyssnar eller inte.
8 Lyssna nu på vad jag säger till dig. Du får inte också bli upprorisk som de! Öppna munnen och ät vad jag ger dig!
9-10 När jag tittade upp fick jag se en hand som höll fram en bokrulle åt mig, och det var skrivet på båda sidor av den. Handen rullade ut den, och jag såg att den var full av varningar, sorgebud och förutsägelser om dom.

2 It said, “Son of man, stand up. I have something to say to you.”
2 The moment I heard the voice, the Spirit entered me and put me on my feet. As he spoke to me, I listened.
3-7 He said, “Son of man, I’m sending you to the family of Israel, a rebellious nation if there ever was one. They and their ancestors have fomented rebellion right up to the present. They’re a hard case, these people to whom I’m sending you—hardened in their sin. Tell them, ‘This is the Message of God, the Master.’ They are a defiant bunch. Whether or not they listen, at least they’ll know that a prophet’s been here. But don’t be afraid of them, son of man, and don’t be afraid of anything they say. Don’t be afraid when living among them is like stepping on thorns or finding scorpions in your bed. Don’t be afraid of their mean words or their hard looks. They’re a bunch of rebels. Your job is to speak to them. Whether they listen is not your concern. They’re hardened rebels.
8 “Only take care, son of man, that you don’t rebel like these rebels. Open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
9-10 When I looked he had his hand stretched out to me, and in the hand a book, a scroll. He unrolled the scroll. On both sides, front and back, were written lamentations and mourning and doom.

Ezekiel’s Call to Be a Prophet
2 He said to me, “Son of man,[a](A) stand(B) up on your feet and I will speak to you.(C)” 2 As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me(D) to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me.
3 He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day.(E) 4 The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn.(F) Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’(G) 5 And whether they listen or fail to listen(H)—for they are a rebellious people(I)—they will know that a prophet has been among them.(J) 6 And you, son of man, do not be afraid(K) of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns(L) are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people.(M) 7 You must speak(N) my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious.(O) 8 But you, son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not rebel(P) like that rebellious people;(Q) open your mouth and eat(R) what I give you.”
9 Then I looked, and I saw a hand(S) stretched out to me. In it was a scroll,(T) 10 which he unrolled before me. On both sides of it were written words of lament and mourning and woe.(U)

- Ezekiel 2:1 The Hebrew phrase ben adam means human being. The phrase son of man is retained as a form of address here and throughout Ezekiel because of its possible association with “Son of Man” in the New Testament.
