Conversión de Saulo(A)
9 Mientras tanto, Saulo no dejaba de amenazar de muerte a los creyentes en el Señor. Por eso, se presentó al sumo sacerdote, 2 y le pidió cartas de autorización para ir a las sinagogas de Damasco, a buscar a los que seguían el Nuevo Camino, tanto hombres como mujeres, y llevarlos presos a Jerusalén. 3 Pero cuando ya se encontraba cerca de la ciudad de Damasco, una luz que venía del cielo brilló de repente a su alrededor. 4 Saulo cayó al suelo, y oyó una voz que le decía: «Saulo, Saulo, ¿por qué me persigues?»
5 Saulo preguntó: «¿Quién eres, Señor?» La voz le contestó: «Yo soy Jesús, el mismo a quien estás persiguiendo. 6 Levántate y entra en la ciudad; allí te dirán lo que debes hacer.»
7 Los que viajaban con Saulo estaban muy asustados, porque habían oído la voz pero no habían visto a nadie. 8 Luego, Saulo se levantó del suelo; pero cuando abrió los ojos, no podía ver. Así que lo tomaron de la mano y lo llevaron a Damasco. 9 Allí estuvo tres días sin ver, y sin comer ni beber nada.
10 En Damasco vivía un creyente que se llamaba Ananías, a quien el Señor se le presentó en una visión y le dijo: «¡Ananías!» Él contestó: «Aquí estoy, Señor.»
11 El Señor le dijo: «Levántate y vete a la calle llamada Derecha, y en la casa de Judas pregunta por un hombre de Tarso que se llama Saulo. Está orando, 12 y en una visión ha visto a uno llamado Ananías que entra y pone sus manos sobre él para que pueda ver de nuevo.»
13 Al oír esto, Ananías dijo: «Señor, muchos me han hablado de ese hombre y de todos los males que ha causado en Jerusalén a tu pueblo santo. 14 Y ahora ha venido aquí, con autorización de los jefes de los sacerdotes, a llevarse presos a todos los que invocan tu nombre.»
15 Pero el Señor le dijo: «Ve, porque he escogido a ese hombre para que hable de mí a la gente de otras naciones, y a sus reyes, y también a los israelitas. 16 Yo le mostraré lo mucho que tiene que sufrir por mi causa.»
17 Ananías fue a la casa donde estaba Saulo. Al entrar, puso sus manos sobre él, y le dijo:
—Hermano Saulo, el Señor Jesús, el que se te apareció en el camino por donde venías, me ha mandado para que recobres la vista y quedes lleno del Espíritu Santo.
18 Al momento cayeron de los ojos de Saulo una especie de escamas, y recobró la vista. Entonces se levantó y fue bautizado. 19 Después comió y recobró las fuerzas, y se quedó algunos días con los creyentes que vivían en Damasco.
Saulo predica en Damasco
20 Luego Saulo comenzó a proclamar en las sinagogas que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios. 21 Todos los que lo oían se quedaban asombrados, y decían:
—¿No es éste el que andaba persiguiendo en Jerusalén a los que invocan el nombre de Jesús? ¿No es el mismo que también vino aquí para arrestarlos y entregarlos a los jefes de los sacerdotes?
22 Pero Saulo hablaba cada vez con más valor, y dejaba confundidos a los judíos que vivían en Damasco, demostrándoles que Jesús es el Mesías.
Saulo escapa de los judíos
23 Al cabo de muchos días, los judíos se pusieron de acuerdo para matar a Saulo, 24 pero él llegó a saberlo. Día y noche lo esperaban en las puertas de salida de la ciudad, para matarlo, 25 pero sus discípulos lo pusieron en un gran canasto y lo bajaron de noche por la muralla que rodeaba la ciudad.

26 Cuando Saulo llegó a Jerusalén, quiso reunirse con los creyentes; pero todos le tenían miedo, porque no creían que él también fuera creyente. 27 Sin embargo, Bernabé lo llevó y lo presentó a los apóstoles. Les contó que Saulo había visto al Señor en el camino, y que el Señor le había hablado, y que, en Damasco, Saulo había anunciado a Jesús con toda valentía. 28 Así Saulo se quedó en Jerusalén, y andaba con ellos. Hablaba del Señor con toda valentía, 29 conversando y discutiendo con los judíos que hablaban griego; pero éstos procuraban matarlo. 30 Cuando los hermanos se dieron cuenta de ello, llevaron a Saulo a Cesarea, y de allí lo mandaron a Tarso.
31 Entonces la iglesia, en todas las regiones de Judea, Galilea y Samaria, tenía paz y crecía espiritualmente. Vivía en el temor del Señor y, con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo, iba aumentando en número.
Pedro sana a Eneas
32 Pedro, que andaba visitando a los hermanos, fue también a ver a los del pueblo santo que vivían en Lida. 33 Allí encontró a un hombre llamado Eneas, que desde hacía ocho años estaba en cama, paralítico. 34 Pedro le dijo:
—Eneas, Jesucristo te sana. Levántate y arregla tu cama.
Eneas se levantó al momento. 35 Y todos los que vivían en Lida y en Sarón lo vieron levantarse, y se convirtieron al Señor.
Pedro resucita a Dorcas
36 Por aquel tiempo había en la ciudad de Jope una creyente llamada Tabitá, que en griego significa Dorcas. Esta mujer pasaba su vida haciendo el bien y ayudando a los necesitados. 37 Por aquellos días, Dorcas enfermó y murió. Su cuerpo, después de haber sido lavado, fue puesto en un cuarto del piso alto. 38 Jope estaba cerca de Lida, donde Pedro se encontraba; y como los creyentes supieron que estaba allí, mandaron dos hombres a decirle: «Venga usted a Jope sin demora.»
39 Y Pedro se fue con ellos. Cuando llegó, lo llevaron al cuarto donde estaba el cuerpo; y todas las viudas, llorando, rodearon a Pedro y le mostraron los vestidos y túnicas que Dorcas había hecho cuando aún vivía. 40 Pedro los hizo salir a todos, y se arrodilló y oró; luego, mirando a la muerta, dijo:
—¡Tabitá, levántate!
Ella abrió los ojos y, al ver a Pedro, se sentó. 41 Él la tomó de la mano y la levantó; luego llamó a los creyentes y a las viudas, y la presentó viva. 42 Esto se supo en toda la ciudad de Jope, y muchos creyeron en el Señor. 43 Pedro se quedó varios días en la ciudad, en casa de un curtidor que se llamaba Simón.

9 Mientras tanto, Saulo, respirando aún amenazas de muerte contra los discípulos del Señor, se presentó al sumo sacerdote 2 y le pidió cartas de extradición para las sinagogas de Damasco. Tenía la intención de encontrar y llevarse presos a Jerusalén a todos los que pertenecieran al Camino, fueran hombres o mujeres. 3 En el viaje sucedió que, al acercarse a Damasco, una luz del cielo relampagueó de repente a su alrededor. 4 Él cayó al suelo y oyó una voz que le decía:
—Saulo, Saulo, ¿por qué me persigues?
5 —¿Quién eres, Señor? —preguntó.
—Yo soy Jesús, a quien tú persigues —contestó la voz—. 6 Levántate y entra en la ciudad, que allí se te dirá lo que tienes que hacer.
7 Los hombres que viajaban con Saulo se detuvieron atónitos porque oían la voz, pero no veían a nadie. 8 Saulo se levantó del suelo, pero cuando abrió los ojos no podía ver, así que lo tomaron de la mano y lo llevaron a Damasco. 9 Estuvo ciego tres días, sin comer ni beber nada.
10 Había en Damasco un discípulo llamado Ananías, a quien el Señor llamó en una visión:
—¡Ananías!
—Aquí estoy, Señor.
11 —Anda —le dijo el Señor—, ve a la casa de Judas, en la calle llamada Derecha, y pregunta por un tal Saulo de Tarso. Está orando 12 y ha visto en una visión a un hombre llamado Ananías que entra y pone las manos sobre él para que recobre la vista.
13 Entonces Ananías respondió:
—Señor, he oído hablar mucho de ese hombre y de todo el mal que ha causado a los que creen en ti en Jerusalén. 14 Y ahora lo tenemos aquí, autorizado por los jefes de los sacerdotes, para llevarse presos a todos los que invocan tu nombre.
15 —¡Ve! —insistió el Señor—, porque ese hombre es mi instrumento escogido para dar a conocer mi nombre tanto a las naciones y a sus reyes como al pueblo de Israel. 16 Yo le mostraré cuánto tendrá que padecer por mi nombre.
17 Ananías se fue y cuando llegó a la casa, le impuso las manos a Saulo y dijo: «Hermano Saulo, el Señor Jesús, que se te apareció en el camino, me ha enviado para que recobres la vista y seas lleno del Espíritu Santo». 18 Al instante cayó de los ojos de Saulo algo como escamas y recobró la vista. Se levantó y fue bautizado. 19 Luego comió y recobró las fuerzas.
Saulo en Damasco y en Jerusalén
Saulo pasó varios días con los discípulos que estaban en Damasco 20 y enseguida se dedicó a predicar en las sinagogas, afirmando que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios. 21 Todos los que le oían quedaban asombrados y preguntaban: «¿No es este el que en Jerusalén perseguía a muerte a los que invocan ese nombre? ¿Y no ha venido aquí para llevárselos presos y entregarlos a los jefes de los sacerdotes?». 22 Pero Saulo cobraba cada vez más fuerza y confundía a los judíos que vivían en Damasco, demostrándoles que Jesús es el Cristo.
23 Después de muchos días, los judíos se pusieron de acuerdo para matarlo, 24 pero Saulo se enteró de sus maquinaciones. Día y noche vigilaban de cerca las puertas de la ciudad con el fin de eliminarlo. 25 Pero sus discípulos se lo llevaron de noche y lo bajaron en un canasto por una abertura en la muralla.
26 Cuando llegó a Jerusalén, trataba de juntarse con los discípulos, pero todos tenían miedo de él, porque no creían que de veras fuera discípulo. 27 Entonces Bernabé lo tomó a su cargo y lo llevó a los apóstoles. Bernabé describió en detalle cómo en el camino Saulo había visto al Señor, el cual le había hablado. Y contó que en Damasco Saulo había predicado con libertad en el nombre de Jesús. 28 Así que se quedó con ellos y andaba por todas partes en Jerusalén, hablando abiertamente en el nombre del Señor. 29 Conversaba y discutía con los judíos de habla griega,[a] pero ellos se proponían eliminarlo. 30 Cuando se enteraron de ello los hermanos, se lo llevaron a Cesarea y de allí lo mandaron a Tarso.
31 Mientras tanto, la iglesia disfrutaba de paz a la vez que se consolidaba en toda Judea, Galilea y Samaria, pues vivía en el temor del Señor e iba creciendo en número, fortalecida por el Espíritu Santo.
Eneas y Dorcas
32 Pedro, que estaba recorriendo toda la región, fue también a visitar a los creyentes que vivían en Lida. 33 Allí encontró a un paralítico llamado Eneas, que llevaba ocho años en cama. 34 «Eneas —dijo Pedro—, Jesucristo te sana. Levántate y tiende tu cama». Y al instante se levantó. 35 Todos los que vivían en Lida y en Sarón lo vieron y se convirtieron al Señor.
36 Había en Jope una discípula llamada Tabita; que en griego se dice Dorcas.[b] Esta se esmeraba en hacer buenas obras y en ayudar a los pobres. 37 Sucedió que en esos días cayó enferma y murió. Pusieron el cadáver, después de lavarlo, en un cuarto de la planta alta. 38 Y como Lida estaba cerca de Jope, los discípulos, al enterarse de que Pedro se encontraba en Lida, enviaron a dos hombres a rogarle: «¡Por favor, venga usted a Jope enseguida!».
39 Sin demora, Pedro se fue con ellos y cuando llegó lo llevaron al cuarto de arriba. Todas las viudas se presentaron, llorando y mostrándole las túnicas y otros vestidos que Dorcas había hecho cuando aún estaba con ellas.
40 Pedro hizo que todos salieran del cuarto; luego se puso de rodillas y oró. Volviéndose hacia la muerta, dijo: «Tabita, levántate». Ella abrió los ojos y al ver a Pedro se incorporó. 41 Él, tomándola de la mano, la levantó. Luego llamó a los creyentes y a las viudas, a quienes la presentó viva. 42 La noticia se difundió por todo Jope y muchos creyeron en el Señor. 43 Pedro se quedó en Jope un buen tiempo, en casa de un tal Simón que era curtidor de pieles.

9 Now Sha’ul, still breathing a threat even of retzach (murder) keneged (against) the talmidim of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Adoneinu, having approached the Kohen Gadol,
2 Requested from him iggrot of reshus (authorization) to the shuls of Damascus, that if someone he should find being mishtatef (involved) in HaDerech [Hashem], both anashim and nashim, he may lead them bound to Yerushalayim. [Isa 17:1; Jer 49:23]
3 Now as he goes, it came about that he comes near Damascus, and suddenly shone around him an Ohr (Light) from Shomayim;
4 And he fell on the ground, and heard a kol (voice), saying to him, "Sha’ul, Sha’ul, why are you persecuting me?" [YESHAYAH 6:8]
5 And he said, "Who are you, Adoni?" And he said, "I am Yehoshua/Yeshua upon whom you bring redifah.
6 "But get up and enter into the city, and it shall be told to you what it is necessary for you to do." [Ezek 3:22]
7 And the anashim traveling with Rav Sha’ul had stood speechless, hearing the sound but seeing no one. [DANIEL 10:7]
8 And Rav Sha’ul got up from the ground, and, though his eyes were open, he was seeing nothing. And leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.
9 And he was shloshah yamim not seeing and neither did he eat nor drink.
10 Now there was a certain talmid in Damascus, by the name Chananyah, and Moshiach Adoneinu spoke to him in a chazon (vision), saying, "Chananyah." And he said, "Hinei, I am here, Adoni."
11 And Moshiach Adoneinu said to him, "Get up and go to the rekhov (street) being called "Yashar" ("Straight") and seek in the bais of Yehudah an ish by name Sha’ul from Tarsus. For, hinei, he is davening,
12 "And Sha’ul has seen in a chazon (vision) an ish by the name Chananyah come in and place his hands upon him that he may see again."
13 And Chananyah answered, "Adoni, I heard from many about this man, how many ra’ot (evil things) he did to your Kadoshim in Yerushalayim.
14 "And here he has samchut (authority) from the Rashei Kohanim to bind all the ones davening b’Shem of you."
15 But Moshiach Adoneinu said to him, "Go, for this one is a keli nivchar (chosen vessel) of mine to carry Shmi before both Goyim and melachim (kings) and the Bnei Yisroel.
16 "For I will show him how much it is necessary for him to undergo yissurim (sufferings) on behalf of Shmi (my Name)."
17 And Chananyah departed and entered into the bais, and having placed his hands upon Rav Sha’ul, he said, "Ach b’Moshiach Sha’ul, [Moshiach, Malachi 3:1] HaAdon has sent me. I’m referring to Yehoshua, the one who appeared to you on the derech by which you were coming. He sent me that you may see again and may be filled with the Ruach Hakodesh."
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and Rav Sha’ul saw again, and, having got up, he submitted to Moshiach’s tevilah of teshuva.
19 And having received okhel (food), Rav Sha’ul regained strength. Now he was with the talmidim in Damascus several yamim.
20 And immediately in the shuls Rav Sha’ul was preaching Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua, saying, "He is the Ben HaElohim."
21 And all the ones listening were astonished, and they were saying, "Is this not the one making havoc in Yerushalayim among the ones invoking this shem and was not his tachlis (purpose) in coming here to bind them over before the Rashei Hakohanim?"
22 But Rav Sha’ul even more was being strengthened and was confounding the unbelieving Yehudim dwelling in Damascus, by proving that this Yehoshua is the Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.
23 But when yamim rabbim were completed, the ones of the Yehudim who were unbelieving plotted to kill him.
24 But the mezimma (evil design, intrigue) of their kesher (plot) became known to Rav Sha’ul. And they were also watching the she’arim (gates) both yomam valailah that they might kill him,
25 but Moshiach’s talmidim had taken him b’lailah and they let him down through an opening in the wall, having lowered him in a large basket. [SHMUEL ALEF 19:12]
26 And having arrived in Yerushalayim, Rav Sha’ul was trying to associate with the Moshiach’s talmidim, and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he is a talmid.
27 But Bar-Nabba, having taken hold of him, brought him to Moshiach’s Shluchim and told them how on the derech he saw Moshiach Adoneinu, who had spoken to Rav Sha’ul, and how in Damascus Rav Sha’ul spoke with ometz lev (boldness) b’Shem Yehoshua.
28 And Rav Sha’ul was with them, going in and coming out in Yerushalayim, speaking boldly b’Shem Moshiach Adoneinu.
29 And Rav Sha’ul was speaking and debating keneged (against) the Greekspeaking Yehudim; but they were attempting to kill him.
30 But having learned of this, the Achim b’Moshiach brought Rav Sha’ul down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.
31 Then Moshiach’s Kehillah throughout all of Yehudah and the Galil and Shomron had shalom and was increasing, being built up, and going on in the yir’at Shomayim and in the yir’at Moshiach Adoneinu and beNechamat HaRuach Hakodesh.
32 Now it came about that Kefa, passing through all the parts of Eretz Yisrael, came down also to Moshiach’s kadoshim dwelling in Lud.
33 And there Kefa found a certain ish by the name Aeneas who had been bedridden shmoneh shanim, for he was paralyzed.
34 And Kefa said to him, "Aeneas, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua make you whole. Get up and make your bed!" And immediately he got up.
35 And everyone dwelling in Lud and Sharon saw him, and they turned to Adoneinu. [MELACHIM ALEF 5:16; 27:29; 2:1; YESHAYAH 33:9; 35:2;65:10]
36 Now in Yafo there was a certain talmidah by the name Tavitha, which, being translated, means "gazelle." This one was abounding in ma’asim tovim and in giving tzedakah, which she was always doing. [YEHOSHUA 19:46; MELACHIM BAIS 2:16; EZRA 3:7]
37 And it came about in yamim hahem that this one, having become ill, passed away. When the women had washed her body, they laid it in the aliyyah.
38 And since Lud was near to Yafo, Moshiach’s talmidim, having heard that Kefa was there, sent shnei anashim to him, summoning Kefa that he not delay in coming to them.
39 Kefa, getting up, went with them. And when he arrived, they brought him up into the aliyyah (upper story room), and all the almanot stood beside him, weeping and showing the tunics and garments that Tavitha made while she was with them.
40 But Kefa, having put everyone outside, and having fallen down, davened. And when he turned to the nifteret (deceased), he said, "Tavitha, get up!" And she opened her eynayim and, having seen Kefa, she sat up.
41 And having given his hand to her, he made her to stand up alive again; and, having called the Moshiach’s Kadoshim and the almanot, Kefa presented her lebedik (alive) before them.
42 It became known throughout all Yafo, and rabbim (many) had emunah in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Adoneinu.
43 And it came about that Kefa remained in Yafo yamim rabbim with a certain Shimon, a tanner.

The Conversion of Saul
9 Meanwhile Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest(A) 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any who belonged to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3 Now as he was going along and approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.(B) 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”(C) 5 He asked, “Who are you, Lord?” The reply came, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 6 But get up and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” 7 The men who were traveling with him stood speechless because they heard the voice but saw no one.(D) 8 Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing;[a] so they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. 9 For three days he was without sight and neither ate nor drank.
10 Now there was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” He answered, “Here I am, Lord.”(E) 11 The Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul. At this moment he is praying,(F) 12 and he has seen in a vision[b] a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.” 13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints in Jerusalem, 14 and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who invoke your name.”(G) 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is an instrument whom I have chosen to bring my name before gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel;(H) 16 I myself will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”(I) 17 So Ananias went and entered the house. He laid his hands on Saul[c] and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on your way here, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”(J) 18 And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and his sight was restored. Then he got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.
Saul Preaches in Damascus
For several days he was with the disciples in Damascus,(K) 20 and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.” 21 All who heard him were amazed and said, “Is not this the man who made havoc in Jerusalem among those who invoked this name? And has he not come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?”(L) 22 Saul became increasingly more powerful and confounded the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus[d] was the Messiah.[e](M)

23 After some time had passed, the Jews plotted to kill him,(N) 24 but their plot became known to Saul. They were watching the gates day and night so that they might kill him,(O) 25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down through an opening in the wall,[f] lowering him in a basket.

26 When he had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples, and they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple.(P) 27 But Barnabas took him, brought him to the apostles, and described for them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken boldly in the name of Jesus.(Q) 28 So he went in and out among them in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 He spoke and argued with the Hellenists, but they were attempting to kill him.(R) 30 When the brothers and sisters learned of it, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
31 Meanwhile the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and was built up. Living in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.(S)
The Healing of Aeneas
32 Now as Peter went here and there among all the brothers and sisters,[g] he came down also to the saints living in Lydda.(T) 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years, for he was paralyzed. 34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed!” And immediately he got up.(U) 35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.(V)

36 Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas.[h] She was devoted to good works and acts of charity.(W) 37 At that time she became ill and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in a room upstairs.(X) 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, who heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him with the request, “Please come to us without delay.”(Y) 39 So Peter got up and went with them, and when he arrived, they took him to the room upstairs. All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing tunics and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them.(Z) 40 Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, get up.” Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up.(AA) 41 He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he showed her to be alive.(AB) 42 This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 Meanwhile, he stayed in Joppa for some time with a certain Simon, a tanner.(AC)

Saul’s Conversion(A)
9 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples.(B) He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus,(C) so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way,(D) whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.(E) 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice(F) say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”(G)
7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound(H) but did not see anyone.(I) 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing.(J) So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.
10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision,(K) “Ananias!”
“Yes, Lord,” he answered.
11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus(L) named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on(M) him to restore his sight.”
13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people(N) in Jerusalem.(O) 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests(P) to arrest all who call on your name.”(Q)
15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument(R) to proclaim my name to the Gentiles(S) and their kings(T) and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”(U)
17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on(V) Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”(W) 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,(X) 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.
Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem
Saul spent several days with the disciples(Y) in Damascus.(Z) 20 At once he began to preach in the synagogues(AA) that Jesus is the Son of God.(AB) 21 All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name?(AC) And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?”(AD) 22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.(AE)
23 After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him,(AF) 24 but Saul learned of their plan.(AG) Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.(AH)
26 When he came to Jerusalem,(AI) he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas(AJ) took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him,(AK) and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.(AL) 28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews,[a](AM) but they tried to kill him.(AN) 30 When the believers(AO) learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea(AP) and sent him off to Tarsus.(AQ)
31 Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria(AR) enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.(AS)
Aeneas and Dorcas
32 As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the Lord’s people(AT) who lived in Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years. 34 “Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you.(AU) Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up. 35 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon(AV) saw him and turned to the Lord.(AW)
36 In Joppa(AX) there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good(AY) and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room.(AZ) 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples(BA) heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”
39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows(BB) stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.
40 Peter sent them all out of the room;(BC) then he got down on his knees(BD) and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.”(BE) She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. 41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. 42 This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord.(BF) 43 Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.(BG)
