8 Y Saulo estaba de completo acuerdo con ellos en su muerte(A).
Saulo persigue a la iglesia
En aquel día se desató una gran persecución en contra de la iglesia(B) en Jerusalén, y todos fueron esparcidos(C) por las regiones de Judea y Samaria(D), excepto los apóstoles. 2 Algunos hombres piadosos sepultaron a Esteban y lloraron a gran voz[a] por él. 3 Pero Saulo hacía estragos en la iglesia(E) entrando de casa en casa, y arrastrando a hombres y mujeres, los echaba en[b] la cárcel(F).
Predicación de Felipe en Samaria
4 Así que los que habían sido esparcidos(G) iban predicando la palabra(H). 5 Felipe(I), descendiendo a la ciudad de Samaria, les predicaba a Cristo[c]. 6 Y las multitudes unánimes prestaban atención a lo que Felipe decía, al oír y ver las señales[d] que hacía. 7 Porque de muchos que tenían espíritus inmundos, estos salían de ellos(J) gritando a gran voz; y muchos que habían sido paralíticos y cojos eran sanados(K). 8 Y había gran regocijo(L) en aquella ciudad.
Simón el mago
9 Hacía tiempo que cierto hombre llamado Simón, estaba ejerciendo la magia(M) en la ciudad y asombrando a la gente de Samaria, pretendiendo ser un gran personaje(N); 10 y todos, desde el menor hasta el mayor, le prestaban atención, y decían: «Este es el que se llama el Gran Poder de Dios(O)».
11 Le prestaban atención porque por mucho tiempo los había asombrado con sus artes mágicas(P). 12 Pero cuando creyeron a Felipe, que anunciaba las buenas nuevas[e] del reino de Dios(Q) y el nombre de Cristo Jesús, se bautizaban(R), tanto hombres como mujeres. 13 Y aun Simón mismo creyó; y después de bautizarse, continuó con Felipe, y estaba atónito al ver las señales(S) y los grandes milagros(T) que se hacían.
Pedro y Juan en Samaria
14 Cuando los apóstoles que estaban en Jerusalén(U) oyeron que Samaria había recibido la palabra de Dios, les enviaron a Pedro y a Juan(V), 15 quienes descendieron y oraron por ellos para que recibieran el Espíritu Santo(W). 16 Porque todavía no había descendido el Espíritu Santo sobre ninguno de ellos(X); solo habían sido bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús(Y). 17 Entonces Pedro y Juan les imponían(Z) las manos, y recibían el Espíritu Santo(AA).
18 Cuando Simón vio que el Espíritu se daba por la imposición de las manos de los apóstoles, les ofreció dinero, 19 y les dijo: «Denme también a mí esta autoridad, de manera que todo aquel sobre quien ponga mis manos reciba el Espíritu Santo».
20 Entonces Pedro le contestó: «Que tu plata perezca[f] contigo, porque pensaste que podías obtener el don de Dios con dinero(AB). 21 No tienes parte ni suerte(AC) en este asunto[g], porque tu corazón no es recto delante de Dios(AD). 22 Por tanto, arrepiéntete de esta tu maldad, y ruega al Señor que si es posible se te perdone el intento de tu corazón(AE). 23 Porque veo que estás en hiel de amargura y en cadena[h] de iniquidad(AF)».
24 Pero Simón respondió: «Rueguen ustedes al Señor por mí, para que no me sobrevenga nada de lo que han dicho».
25 Y ellos, después de haber testificado solemnemente(AG) y hablado la palabra del Señor(AH), iniciaron el regreso a Jerusalén anunciando el evangelio(AI) en muchas aldeas de los samaritanos(AJ).
Felipe y el etíope eunuco
26 Un ángel del Señor(AK) le dijo a Felipe(AL): «Levántate y ve hacia el sur, al camino que desciende de Jerusalén a Gaza(AM)». Este es un camino desierto[i]. 27 Él se levantó y fue. Y había un[j] eunuco etíope(AN), alto oficial de Candace, reina de los etíopes, el cual estaba encargado de todos sus tesoros, que había venido a Jerusalén para adorar(AO). 28 Regresaba a su país sentado en su carruaje, y leía al profeta Isaías. 29 Y el Espíritu dijo(AP) a Felipe: «Ve y júntate a ese carruaje».
30 Cuando Felipe se acercó corriendo, le oyó leer al profeta Isaías, y le preguntó: «¿Entiende usted lo que lee?». 31 El eunuco le respondió: «¿Cómo podré, a menos que alguien me guíe?». E invitó a Felipe a que subiera y se sentara con él. 32 El pasaje de la Escritura que estaba leyendo era este:
«(AQ)Como oveja fue llevado al matadero;
Y como cordero, mudo delante del que lo trasquila,
No abre Él Su boca.
33 -»En Su humillación no se le hizo justicia[k];
¿Quién contará[l] Su generación[m]?
Porque Su vida es quitada de la tierra».
34 El eunuco le dijo a Felipe: «Le ruego que me diga, ¿de quién dice esto el profeta? ¿De sí mismo, o de algún otro?». 35 Entonces Felipe(AR), comenzando con este pasaje de la Escritura, le anunció el evangelio(AS) de Jesús(AT). 36 Yendo por el camino, llegaron a un lugar donde había agua; y el eunuco dijo*: «Ahí hay agua. ¿Qué impide que yo sea bautizado(AU)?». 37 [n]Y Felipe le dijo: «Si usted cree con todo su corazón, puede». «Creo que Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios», respondió el eunuco.
38 Y mandó parar el carruaje; ambos descendieron al agua, y Felipe lo bautizó. 39 Al salir ellos del agua, el Espíritu del Señor arrebató(AV) a Felipe; y no lo vio más el eunuco, que continuó su camino gozoso. 40 Pero Felipe se encontró[o] en Azoto[p](AW), y por donde pasaba, anunciaba el evangelio en todas las ciudades(AX), hasta que llegó a Cesarea(AY).

Saul Attempts to Destroy the Church
8 And Saul was agreeing with his murder. Now there happened on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men buried Stephen and made loud lamentation over him. 3 But Saul was attempting to destroy the church. Entering house after house,[a] he dragged off both men and women and[b] delivered them[c] to prison.
Philip Proclaims Christ in Samaria
4 Now those who had been scattered went about proclaiming the good news of the word. 5 And Philip came down to the city of Samaria and[d] began proclaiming[e] the Christ[f] to them. 6 And the crowds with one mind were paying attention to what was being said by Philip, as they heard him[g] and saw the signs that he was performing. 7 For many of those who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them,[h] crying out with a loud voice, and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city.
Simon the Magician
9 Now a certain man named[i] Simon had been in the city practicing magic and astonishing the people of Samaria, saying he was someone great. 10 They were all paying attention to him,[j] from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called ‘Great.’” 11 And they were paying attention to him because for a long time he had astonished them with his[k] magic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he[l] was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were being baptized. 13 And Simon himself also believed, and after he[m] was baptized he was keeping close company with[n] Philip. And when he[o] saw the signs and great miracles that were taking place, he was astonished.
14 Now when[p] the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who went down and[q] prayed for them so that they would receive the Holy Spirit. 16 (For he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized[r] in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then they placed their[s] hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 Now Simon, when he[t] saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, offered them money, 19 saying, “Give to me also this power, so that whomever I place my[u] hands on may receive the Holy Spirit!” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver be destroyed along with you,[v] because you thought you could acquire[w] the gift of God by means of money! 21 You have no[x] part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and ask the Lord if perhaps the intent of your heart may be forgiven you!” 23 For I see you are in a state of bitter envy[y] and bound by unrighteousness.”[z] 24 But Simon answered and[aa] said, “You pray to the Lord for me so that nothing of what you have said will come upon me.” 25 So when[ab] they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they turned back toward Jerusalem, and were proclaiming the good news to many villages of the Samaritans.
Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Get up and go toward the south[ac] on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a desert road.) 27 And he got up and[ad] went, and behold, there was a man, an Ethiopian eunuch (a court official of Candace,[ae] queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasury) who had come to worship in Jerusalem 28 and was returning and sitting in his chariot, and reading aloud the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Approach and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran up to it[af] and[ag] heard him reading aloud Isaiah the prophet and said, “So then, do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “So how could I, unless someone will guide me?” And he invited Philip to come up and[ah] sit with him. 32 Now the passage of scripture that he was reading aloud was this:
“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and like a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his[ai] humiliation justice was taken from him.
Who can describe his descendants?[aj]
For his life was taken away from the earth.”[ak]
34 And the eunuch answered and[al] said to Philip, “I ask you, about whom does the prophet say this—about himself or about someone else?” 35 So Philip opened his mouth and beginning from this scripture, proclaimed the good news to him about Jesus. 36 And as they were traveling down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?”[am] 38 And he ordered the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water—Philip and the eunuch—and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any longer, for he went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he[an] passed through, he proclaimed the good news to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
