Ananías y Safira
5 Pero se dio el caso de un hombre llamado Ananías, esposo de Safira, que vendió cierta propiedad, 2 pero entregó sólo una parte del dinero a los apóstoles y se quedó con el resto. Su esposa, desde luego, estaba enterada de todo.
3 ―Ananías —lo reprendió Pedro—, ¿por qué has permitido que Satanás te llene el corazón? ¿Por qué dices que este es el importe total de la venta? Le estás mintiendo al Espíritu Santo. 4 ¿Acaso no era tuya esa propiedad antes de venderla? Y una vez vendida, ¿no era tuyo el dinero? ¿Por qué has hecho esto? No nos has mentido a nosotros, sino a Dios.
5 Al escuchar estas palabras, Ananías cayó al suelo y murió, y un gran temor se apoderó de los que escucharon esto. 6 Los jóvenes cubrieron entonces el cadáver con una sábana y salieron a enterrarlo.
7 Como tres horas más tarde, llegó la esposa, sin saber lo ocurrido.
8 ―¿Vendiste el terreno en tal precio? —le preguntó Pedro.
―Sí —respondió.
9 Le dijo Pedro: —¿Por qué se pusieron de acuerdo para poner a prueba al Espíritu del Señor? Detrás de esa puerta están los jóvenes que acaban de enterrar a tu esposo y ahora te sacarán también a ti.
10 Instantáneamente cayó al suelo muerta. Los jóvenes entraron y, al verla muerta, la sacaron y la enterraron junto a su esposo. 11 Un gran terror se apoderó de toda la iglesia y de todas las personas que se enteraron de lo que había pasado.
Los apóstoles sanan a muchas personas
12 Los apóstoles siguieron reuniéndose regularmente en el portal de Salomón, y por medio de ellos Dios siguió realizando milagros extraordinarios entre el pueblo. 13 Aunque ninguno de los otros se atrevía a unírseles, a pesar del alto aprecio que les tenían, 14 el número de hombres y mujeres que creían en el Señor aumentaba más y más. 15 La gente colocaba a los enfermos en las calles en colchonetas y camillas para que al menos la sombra de Pedro los tocara. 16 Grandes multitudes acudían de los suburbios de Jerusalén trayendo enfermos y endemoniados, y todos eran sanados.
Persiguen a los apóstoles
17 El sumo sacerdote y sus colegas de la secta de los saduceos reaccionaron con envidia, 18 y arrestaron a los apóstoles y los metieron en la cárcel. 19 Pero un ángel del Señor abrió de noche las puertas de la cárcel y los sacó de allí.
20 ―Vayan al templo y prediquen acerca de la Vida —les ordenó el ángel.
21 Llegaron, pues, al templo al rayar el día, e inmediatamente se pusieron a enseñar.
Aquella misma mañana el sumo sacerdote llegó con los que estaban con él y, tras reunir al concilio y a todos los ancianos de Israel, ordenó que trajeran de la cárcel a los apóstoles. 22 Pero cuando los guardias llegaron a la cárcel no los encontraron allí, y regresaron a notificarlo.
23 ―Las puertas de la cárcel estaban cerradas —dijeron— y los guardias estaban fuera, pero al abrir la puerta no encontramos a nadie.
24 Después de escuchar esto, el jefe de la guardia y los principales sacerdotes estaban confundidos y se preguntaban a dónde iría a parar todo aquello. 25 En ese preciso instante, llegó uno con la noticia de que los prisioneros estaban en el templo enseñándole al pueblo. 26 El jefe de la guardia corrió con los alguaciles a arrestarlos, sin hacer uso de la fuerza, por temor a que el pueblo los apedreara. 27 Los condujeron ante el concilio, y el sumo sacerdote los reconvino:
28 ―¿No les habíamos prohibido que volvieran a enseñar acerca de Jesús? Ustedes han llenado a Jerusalén de sus enseñanzas y tratan de descargar en nosotros la culpa de la muerte de ese hombre.
29 ―Tenemos que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres —respondieron Pedro y los apóstoles—. 30 El Dios de nuestros antepasados resucitó a Jesús, al que ustedes mataron colgándolo en una cruz. 31 Luego, con su gran poder, lo exaltó como Príncipe y Salvador, para que el pueblo de Israel se vuelva a Dios y alcance el perdón de sus pecados. 32 Nosotros somos testigos de esas cosas, y también lo es el Espíritu Santo que Dios ha concedido a los que lo obedecen.
33 Al oírlos, los miembros del concilio, rabiando de furia, querían matarlos. 34 Pero uno de ellos, un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, experto en cuestiones de la ley y muy respetado entre el pueblo, pidió la palabra y solicitó que sacaran a los apóstoles del salón. 35 Entonces se dirigió a ellos con las siguientes palabras:
―Varones de Israel, mediten bien lo que van a hacer con estos hombres. 36 Hace algún tiempo se levantó con sueños de grandeza un tal Teudas, al que se le unieron unas cuatrocientas personas; pero murió asesinado y los seguidores se dispersaron sin provocar mayores dolores de cabeza. 37 Después de este, durante los días del censo, surgió Judas de Galilea, quien logró que muchas personas se hicieran discípulos suyos; pero también lo mataron y sus seguidores se dispersaron. 38 Por lo tanto, recomiendo que dejen tranquilos a estos hombres. Si lo que enseñan y hacen obedece a impulsos personales, pronto se desvanecerá. 39 Mas si es de Dios, ustedes no podrán detenerlos. ¡No sea que descubran que han estado peleando contra Dios!
40 El concilio aceptó la recomendación, llamó a los apóstoles y, después de azotarlos, les exigieron que no volvieran a hablar en el nombre de Jesús. Finalmente, los pusieron en libertad.
41 Al salir del concilio, los discípulos iban gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de sufrir ultrajes por la causa del Nombre. 42 Y siguieron enseñando y predicando todos los días en el templo y de casa en casa, que Jesús era el Mesías.

5 Pero cierto hombre llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una heredad, 2 y sustrajo del precio, sabiéndolo también su mujer; y trayendo sólo una parte, la puso a los pies de los apóstoles. 3 Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué llenó Satanás tu corazón para que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y sustrajeses del precio de la heredad? 4 Reteniéndola, ¿no se te quedaba a ti? y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu poder? ¿Por qué pusiste esto en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios. 5 Al oír Ananías estas palabras, cayó y expiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron. 6 Y levantándose los jóvenes, lo envolvieron, y sacándolo, lo sepultaron.
7 Pasado un lapso como de tres horas, sucedió que entró su mujer, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido. 8 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Dime, ¿vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Sí, en tanto. 9 Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué convinisteis en tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí a la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado a tu marido, y te sacarán a ti. 10 Al instante ella cayó a los pies de él, y expiró; y cuando entraron los jóvenes, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto a su marido. 11 Y vino gran temor sobre toda la iglesia, y sobre todos los que oyeron estas cosas.
Muchas señales y maravillas
12 Y por la mano de los apóstoles se hacían muchas señales y prodigios en el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón. 13 De los demás, ninguno se atrevía a juntarse con ellos; mas el pueblo los alababa grandemente. 14 Y los que creían en el Señor aumentaban más, gran número así de hombres como de mujeres; 15 tanto que sacaban los enfermos a las calles, y los ponían en camas y lechos, para que al pasar Pedro, a lo menos su sombra cayese sobre alguno de ellos. 16 Y aun de las ciudades vecinas muchos venían a Jerusalén, trayendo enfermos y atormentados de espíritus inmundos; y todos eran sanados.
Pedro y Juan son perseguidos
17 Entonces levantándose el sumo sacerdote y todos los que estaban con él, esto es, la secta de los saduceos, se llenaron de celos; 18 y echaron mano a los apóstoles y los pusieron en la cárcel pública. 19 Mas un ángel del Señor, abriendo de noche las puertas de la cárcel y sacándolos, dijo: 20 Id, y puestos en pie en el templo, anunciad al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida. 21 Habiendo oído esto, entraron de mañana en el templo, y enseñaban.
Entre tanto, vinieron el sumo sacerdote y los que estaban con él, y convocaron al concilio y a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron a la cárcel para que fuesen traídos. 22 Pero cuando llegaron los alguaciles, no los hallaron en la cárcel; entonces volvieron y dieron aviso, 23 diciendo: Por cierto, la cárcel hemos hallado cerrada con toda seguridad, y los guardas afuera de pie ante las puertas; mas cuando abrimos, a nadie hallamos dentro. 24 Cuando oyeron estas palabras el sumo sacerdote y el jefe de la guardia del templo y los principales sacerdotes, dudaban en qué vendría a parar aquello. 25 Pero viniendo uno, les dio esta noticia: He aquí, los varones que pusisteis en la cárcel están en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo. 26 Entonces fue el jefe de la guardia con los alguaciles, y los trajo sin violencia, porque temían ser apedreados por el pueblo.
27 Cuando los trajeron, los presentaron en el concilio, y el sumo sacerdote les preguntó, 28 diciendo: ¿No os mandamos estrictamente que no enseñaseis en ese nombre? Y ahora habéis llenado a Jerusalén de vuestra doctrina, y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de ese hombre.(A) 29 Respondiendo Pedro y los apóstoles, dijeron: Es necesario obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres. 30 El Dios de nuestros padres levantó a Jesús, a quien vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero. 31 A este, Dios ha exaltado con su diestra por Príncipe y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y perdón de pecados. 32 Y nosotros somos testigos suyos de estas cosas, y también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios a los que le obedecen.
33 Ellos, oyendo esto, se enfurecían y querían matarlos. 34 Entonces levantándose en el concilio un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerado de todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera por un momento a los apóstoles, 35 y luego dijo: Varones israelitas, mirad por vosotros lo que vais a hacer respecto a estos hombres. 36 Porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien. A este se unió un número como de cuatrocientos hombres; pero él fue muerto, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados y reducidos a nada. 37 Después de este, se levantó Judas el galileo, en los días del censo, y llevó en pos de sí a mucho pueblo. Pereció también él, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados. 38 Y ahora os digo: Apartaos de estos hombres, y dejadlos; porque si este consejo o esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá; 39 mas si es de Dios, no la podréis destruir; no seáis tal vez hallados luchando contra Dios.
40 Y convinieron con él; y llamando a los apóstoles, después de azotarlos, les intimaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y los pusieron en libertad. 41 Y ellos salieron de la presencia del concilio, gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por causa del Nombre. 42 Y todos los días, en el templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar a Jesucristo.

5 हनन्याह नाउँ क एक मनई अउर ओकर पतनी सफीरा मिलिके आपन दौलत क एक हींसा बेंच दिहेन। 2 अउ आपन पतनी क जानकारी मँ एहमाँ स कछू धन जुरय लिहेन। अउर कछू धन प्रेरितन क गोड़वा प धइ दिहेन।
3 ऍह पइ पतरस कहेस, “अरे हनन्याह, सइतान क तू आपन मन मँ इ बात नाइ देइ दिहा कि तू पवित्तर आतिमा स झूठ बोल्या अउर धरती क बेंच स मिला धन मँ स तनिक बचाइके धइ लिहा? 4 ओका बेंचइ स पहिले का उ तोहार ही नाहीं रही? अउर जब तू ओका बेंच दिहा तउ उ धन का तोहरे कब्जा मँ नाहीं रहा? तू इ बात क काहे सोच्या? तू मनइयन स नाहीं, परमेस्सर स झूठ बोल्या ह।”
5-6 हनन्याह जबहिं इ सब्दन क सुनेस तउ उ चकराइके गिरि गवा अउर दम तोड़ दिहस। जउन कउनो भी इ बारे मँ सुनेस, सबन प गहिर भय छाइ गवा। फिन जवान पुरूसन उठिके ओका कफन मँ लपेटेन अउर बाहेर लइ जाइके गाड़ दिहेन।
7 कउनो तीन घण्टा पाछे, जउन कछू भवा रहा, ओका न जानत भइ ओकर पतनी भितरे आइ 8 पतरस ओसे कहेस, “बतावा, तू आपन खेत क ऍतने मँ ही बेच्या ह?”
तउ उ कहेस, “हाँ, ऍतना मँ ही।”
9 तबहिं पतरस ओसे कहेस, “तू पचे दुइनउँ पर्भू क आतिमा क परीच्छा बरे काहे मान लिहा? लखा तोहरे भतारे क दफनावइवालन क गोड़ दुआरे ताई आइ ग अहइ अउर उ पचे तोहका भी ढोइ लइ जइहीं।” 10 तब उ ओकरे गोड़े प गिरि पड़ी अउर मरि गइ। फिन जवान परूसन भितरे आएन अउर ओका मरा पाएन। तउ उ पचे ओका ढोइके ओकरे पति क लगे ओका गाड़ दिहन। 11 तउ समूचइ कलीसिया अउर जउन कउनो इ बात क सुनेस, ओन सब प गहिरा भय छाइ गवा।

12 प्रेरितन क जरिये मनइयन क बीच बहोत स अद्भुत कारजन परगट होत रहेन अउर अचरज कारजन कीन्ह जात रहेन। उ पचे सबहिं सुलैमान क ओसारे मँ बटुरा रहेन। 13 मुला ओनमाँ स कउनो क हिम्मत प्रेरितन मँ मिलइ बरे नाहीं होत रही। मुला मनइयन ओनकइ गुन खूब गावत रहेन। 14 ओहर पर्भू प बिसवास करइवालन स्त्रियन अउर पुरूसन जिआदा स जिआदा बाढ़त जात रहेन। 15 ऍकरे कारण मनइयन आपन कछू बीमार लोगन क लइके खटिया अउर बिछौना प गलियन मँ ओलारइ लागेन काहेकि तबहिं पतरस ओहर स निकरा तउ ओनमाँ स कछू प कमती स कमती छाया पड़ि सकइ। 16 यरूसलेम क आसपास क नगर स लोग आपन बेरमियन अउर दुस्ट आतिमा स सतावा गएन मनइयन क लइके आवइ लागेन। अउर सबहिं चंगा होइ जात रहेन।

17 फिन महा याजक अउर ओकर संगी यानी सदूकियन क दल, ओनकइ खिलाफ खड़ा होइ गएन। उ पचे मने मँ कुढ़त रहेन। 18 एह बरे उ पचे प्रेरितन क बंदी बनाइ लिहन अउर ओनका कैदखाना मँ बन्द कइ दिहेन। 19 मुला राति क समइ पर्भू क एक दूत कैद क फाटक खोल दिहस। उ ओनका बाहेर लइ जाइके कहेस, 20 “जा, मन्दिर मँ ठाड़ होइ जा अउर इ नई जिन्नगी क बारे मँ मनइयन क सब कछू बतावा।” 21 जबहिं उ पचे इ सुनेन तउ भोरहिं तड़के मन्दिर मँ घुसि गएन अउर उपदेस देइ लागेन।
फिन जब महायाजक अउर ओकर संगी हुवाँ पहोंचेन तउ उ पचे यहूदी संघ अउर इस्राएल क बुजुर्ग क पूरी सभा न्योतेन। उ पचे कैदखाना स प्रेरितन क बोलवावइ पठएन। 22 किन्तु जब अधिकारी कैदखाना मँ पहुँचेन तउ उ पचे प्रेरितन क हुवाँ नाहीं पाएन। उ पचे लौटिके ऍका बताएन अउर 23 कहेन, “हम पचे कैदखाना मँ सुरच्छा क लगा भवा ताला अउर दुआरे प तैनात सुरच्छाकारियन क पावा। मुला जब हम दरवाजा खोला तउ हमका भितरे कउनो नाहीं मिला।” 24 जइसेन मन्दिर क सुरच्छाकारी अउर मुख्य़याजकन इ सब्दन क सुनेन तउ उ पचे चकराइ गएन अउ सोचइ लागेन, “अब का होई।”
25 ऍतने मँ कउनो दूसर मनई आवा अउर ओनका बताएस, “जेनका तू पचे जेल मँ धाँध दिहा ह, उ पचे मन्दिर मँ खड़ा होइके उपदेस देत बाटेन।” 26 तउ सुरच्छाकारी आपन अधिकारी संग हुवाँ गवा अउर बिना ताकत क प्रयोग किए ओनका वापस धइ लिआवा काहेकि उ पचे डेरात रहेन कि कहूँ मनई ओनका (मन्दिर क सुरच्छा कर्मी) पाथर स न मारइँ।
27 उ पचे ओनका भितरे लइ आएन अउर सबन त ऊँचकी यहूदी सभा क समन्वा खड़ा कइ दिहन। फिन महायाजक ओनसे फरियावत भवा पूछेस, 28 “हम इ नाउँ स उपदेस न देइ बरे तोहका कर्रा हुकुम दिहे रहे। अउर तू पचे फिन भी समूचइ यरूसलेम क आपन उपदेस स भरि दिहा ह। अउर तू पचे इ मनई क मउत क अपराध हम पचे लइ लादइ चाहत बाट्या।”
29 पतरस अउर दूसर प्रेरितन जवाब दिहेन, “हमका मनइयन क बनिस्बद परमेस्सर क आग्या मानइ चाही। 30 उ ईसू क हमरे पूर्वन क परमेस्सर मउत स फिन जीवित कइके खड़ा कइ दिहेस ह जेका एक सूली प टाँगिके तू पचे मार डाया। 31 ओका ही प्रमुख अउर उद्धारकर्त्ता क रूप मँ बड़कइ देत भवा परमेस्सर आपन दाहिन हाथे कइँती बइठाएस काहेकि इस्राएलियन क मनफिराव अउर पाप क छमा दीन्ह जाइ सकइ। 32 ऍन सबन बातन क हम साच्छी अही अउर वइसे ही पवित्तर आतिमा भी बा उहइ परमेस्सर ओनका दिहेस ह जउन ओकरे आज्ञा क मानत हीं।”
33 जब उ पचे इ सुनेन तउ उ पचे कोहाइ गएन अउर ओनका मारि डावइ चाहेन। 34 मुला महासभा मँ स एक गमलिएल नाउँ क फरीसियन जउन धरमसास्तिरी अध्यापक रहा अउर जेकर सब लोग मान सम्मान करत रहेन, ठाड़ भवा अउर हुकुम दिहेस कि ऍनका तनिक देरी बरे बाहेर कइ दीन्ह जाइ। 35 फिन उ ओनसे कहेस, “इस्राएल क पुरूसो, तू पचे इ मनइयन क संग जउन कछू करइ प उतारू अहा, ओका सोच बिचारिके किहा। 36 कछू समइ पहिले आपन क बड़कवा एलान करत भवा थियूदास परगट भवा। ओर कउनो चार सौ मनई ओकरे पाछे भी होइ गएन, मुला उ मार डावा गवा अउर ओकर सबहिं मनइयन एहर ओहर छिटक गएन। ओकरे फल कछू नाहीं निकरा। 37 ओकरे पाछे जनगणना क समइ गलीली क बसइया यहूदा परगट भवा। उ भी कछू मनइयन क आपन पाछे कइँती हैच लिहेस। उ भी मारि डावा गवा। ओकर भी सबहिं एहर ओहर होइ गएन। 38 यह बरे अबहिं मइँ तू पचन्स कहत हउँ, इ मनइयन स अलग रहा, ऍनका अइसे ही अकेल्ँले छोरि द्या काहेकि ऍनकइ इ चाल या काम मनई कइँती स अहइ तउ खुद नास होइ जाइ। 39 मुला जदि उ परमेस्सर स अहइ तउ तू पचे ओनका रोक न पउब्या। अउर तब होइ सकत ह तू आपन खुद क ही परमेस्सर क खिलाफ लड़त भिड़त पउब्या!”
उ पचे जइसा गेमलिएल कहेस मान लिहेन। 40 अउर प्रेरितन क भितरे बोलाइके उ पचे कोड़ा लगवाएन अउर इ आज्ञा दइके कि उ पचे ईसू क नाउँ क कउनो चर्चा न करइँ, ओनका जाइ दिहेन। 41 तउ उ पचे प्रेरितन इ बात क मजा मारत भए कि ओनका ओकरे नाउँ बरे बेज्जत रहइ क जोग्ग गना गवा ह, यहूदी महासभा स बाहिर चला गएन। 42 फिन मन्दिर अउर घर-घर मँ हर रोज इ सुसमाचार कि ईसू मसीह अहइ उपदेस देब अउर प्रचार करब उ पचे कबहुँ नाहीं तजेन।

Ananias and Sapphira
5 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself,(A) but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.(B)
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan(C) has so filled your heart(D) that you have lied to the Holy Spirit(E) and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?(F) 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal?(G) What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”(H)
5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died.(I) And great fear(J) seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body,(K) and carried him out and buried him.
7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”(L)
9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord?(M) Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died.(N) Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.(O) 11 Great fear(P) seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
The Apostles Heal Many
12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders(Q) among the people. And all the believers used to meet together(R) in Solomon’s Colonnade.(S) 13 No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people.(T) 14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.(U) 15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.(V) 16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.(W)
The Apostles Persecuted
17 Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party(X) of the Sadducees,(Y) were filled with jealousy. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.(Z) 19 But during the night an angel(AA) of the Lord opened the doors of the jail(AB) and brought them out.(AC) 20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”(AD)
21 At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.
When the high priest and his associates(AE) arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin(AF)—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. 22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there.(AG) So they went back and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests(AH) were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to.
25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people(AI) would stone them.
27 The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin(AJ) to be questioned by the high priest. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,”(AK) he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”(AL)
29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!(AM) 30 The God of our ancestors(AN) raised Jesus from the dead(AO)—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.(AP) 31 God exalted him to his own right hand(AQ) as Prince and Savior(AR) that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.(AS) 32 We are witnesses of these things,(AT) and so is the Holy Spirit,(AU) whom God has given to those who obey him.”
33 When they heard this, they were furious(AV) and wanted to put them to death. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel,(AW) a teacher of the law,(AX) who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. 35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census(AY) and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.(AZ) 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”(BA)
40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged.(BB) Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing(BC) because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.(BD) 42 Day after day, in the temple courts(BE) and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news(BF) that Jesus is the Messiah.(BG)
