Castigo de Ananías y Safira
5 Pero cierto hombre llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una propiedad, 2 y se quedó con parte del precio(A), sabiéndolo también su[a] mujer; y trayendo la otra[b] parte, la puso a los pies de los apóstoles(B). 3 Mas Pedro dijo: Ananías, ¿por qué ha llenado Satanás(C) tu corazón para mentir al Espíritu Santo(D), y quedarte con parte del precio(E) del terreno? 4 Mientras estaba sin venderse, ¿no te pertenecía? Y después de vendida, ¿no estaba bajo tu poder? ¿Por qué concebiste[c] este asunto en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres sino a Dios(F). 5 Al oír Ananías estas palabras, cayó y expiró(G); y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo supieron[d](H). 6 Y los jóvenes[e] se levantaron y lo cubrieron(I), y sacándolo, le dieron sepultura.
7 Después de un lapso como de tres horas entró su mujer, no sabiendo lo que había sucedido. 8 Y Pedro le preguntó[f]: Dime, ¿vendisteis el terreno en tanto? Y ella dijo: Sí, ese fue el precio[g](J). 9 Entonces Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué os pusisteis de acuerdo para poner a prueba(K) al Espíritu del Señor(L)? Mira, los pies de los que sepultaron a tu marido están a la puerta, y te sacarán también a ti. 10 Al instante ella cayó a los pies de él, y expiró(M). Al entrar los jóvenes, la hallaron muerta, y la sacaron y le dieron sepultura junto a su marido. 11 Y vino un gran temor sobre toda la iglesia, y sobre todos los que supieron[h] estas cosas(N).
Muchas señales y prodigios
12 Por mano de los apóstoles se realizaban muchas señales[i] y prodigios(O) entre el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón(P). 13 Pero ninguno de los demás se atrevía a juntarse con ellos; sin embargo, el pueblo los tenía en gran estima(Q). 14 Y más y más creyentes(R) en el Señor, multitud de hombres y de mujeres, se añadían constantemente al número de ellos(S), 15 a tal punto que aun sacaban los enfermos a las calles y los tendían en lechos y camillas, para que al pasar Pedro, siquiera su sombra cayera sobre alguno de ellos(T). 16 También la gente[j] de las ciudades en los alrededores de Jerusalén acudía trayendo enfermos y atormentados por espíritus inmundos, y[k] todos eran sanados.
En la cárcel y libres otra vez
17 Pero levantándose el sumo sacerdote, y todos los que estaban con él (es decir, la secta(U) de los saduceos(V)), se llenaron de celo, 18 y echaron mano a los apóstoles y los pusieron en una cárcel pública(W). 19 Pero un ángel del Señor(X), durante la noche, abrió las puertas de la cárcel, y sacándolos, dijo: 20 Id, y puestos de pie en el templo, hablad[l] al pueblo todo el mensaje[m](Y) de esta Vida. 21 Habiendo oído esto, entraron al amanecer en el templo y enseñaban(Z). Cuando llegaron el sumo sacerdote(AA) y los que estaban con él, convocaron al concilio[n](AB), es decir[o], a todo el senado de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron órdenes a la cárcel para que los trajeran. 22 Pero los alguaciles(AC) que fueron no los encontraron en la cárcel; volvieron, pues, e informaron, 23 diciendo: Encontramos la cárcel cerrada con toda seguridad y los guardias de pie a las puertas; pero cuando abrimos, a nadie hallamos dentro. 24 Cuando oyeron estas palabras, el capitán de la guardia del templo(AD) y los principales sacerdotes se quedaron muy perplejos a causa de ellos, pensando en qué terminaría aquello[p]. 25 Pero alguien se presentó y les informó: Mirad, los hombres que pusisteis en la cárcel están en el templo enseñando al pueblo. 26 Entonces el capitán(AE) fue con los alguaciles(AF) y los trajo sin violencia (porque temían(AG) al pueblo, no fuera que los apedrearan). 27 Cuando los trajeron, los pusieron ante[q] el concilio[r](AH), y el sumo sacerdote los interrogó, 28 diciendo: Os dimos órdenes estrictas de no continuar enseñando en este nombre(AI), y he aquí, habéis llenado a Jerusalén con vuestras enseñanzas, y queréis traer sobre nosotros la sangre de este hombre(AJ). 29 Mas respondiendo Pedro y los apóstoles, dijeron: Debemos obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres(AK). 30 El Dios de nuestros padres(AL) resucitó a Jesús(AM), a quien vosotros habíais matado[s] colgándole en una cruz[t](AN). 31 A este Dios exaltó a[u] su diestra(AO) como Príncipe[v](AP) y Salvador(AQ), para dar arrepentimiento a Israel, y perdón de pecados(AR). 32 Y nosotros somos testigos[w] de estas cosas(AS); y también el Espíritu Santo(AT), el cual Dios ha dado a los que le obedecen.
El consejo de Gamaliel
33 Cuando ellos oyeron esto, se sintieron profundamente ofendidos[x](AU) y querían matarlos. 34 Pero cierto fariseo llamado Gamaliel(AV), maestro(AW) de la ley, respetado por todo el pueblo, se levantó en el concilio[y](AX) y ordenó que sacaran fuera a los hombres por un momento. 35 Y les dijo: Varones de Israel, tened cuidado de lo que vais a hacer con estos hombres. 36 Porque hace algún tiempo Teudas se levantó pretendiendo ser alguien(AY); y un grupo como de cuatrocientos hombres se unió a él. Y[z] fue muerto, y todos los que lo seguían[aa] fueron dispersos y reducidos a nada. 37 Después de él, se levantó Judas de Galilea en los días del censo(AZ), y llevó mucha gente tras sí; él también pereció, y todos los que lo seguían[ab] se dispersaron. 38 Por tanto, en este caso os digo: no tengáis nada que ver con[ac] estos hombres y dejadlos en paz, porque si este plan o acción[ad] es de los hombres(BA), perecerá; 39 pero si es de Dios, no podréis destruirlos; no sea que os halléis luchando contra Dios(BB). 40 Ellos aceptaron su consejo[ae], y después de llamar a los apóstoles, los azotaron(BC) y les ordenaron que no hablaran en el nombre de Jesús y los soltaron. 41 Ellos, pues, salieron de la presencia del concilio[af](BD), regocijándose de que hubieran sido tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por su Nombre[ag](BE). 42 Y todos los días, en el templo y de casa en casa[ah](BF), no cesaban de enseñar y predicar a[ai] Jesús(BG) como el Cristo[aj].

5 Pero cierto hombre llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una heredad, 2 y sustrajo del precio, sabiéndolo también su mujer; y trayendo sólo una parte, la puso a los pies de los apóstoles. 3 Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué llenó Satanás tu corazón para que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y sustrajeses del precio de la heredad? 4 Reteniéndola, ¿no se te quedaba a ti? y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu poder? ¿Por qué pusiste esto en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios. 5 Al oír Ananías estas palabras, cayó y expiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron. 6 Y levantándose los jóvenes, lo envolvieron, y sacándolo, lo sepultaron.
7 Pasado un lapso como de tres horas, sucedió que entró su mujer, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido. 8 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Dime, ¿vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Sí, en tanto. 9 Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué convinisteis en tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí a la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado a tu marido, y te sacarán a ti. 10 Al instante ella cayó a los pies de él, y expiró; y cuando entraron los jóvenes, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto a su marido. 11 Y vino gran temor sobre toda la iglesia, y sobre todos los que oyeron estas cosas.
Muchas señales y maravillas
12 Y por la mano de los apóstoles se hacían muchas señales y prodigios en el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón. 13 De los demás, ninguno se atrevía a juntarse con ellos; mas el pueblo los alababa grandemente. 14 Y los que creían en el Señor aumentaban más, gran número así de hombres como de mujeres; 15 tanto que sacaban los enfermos a las calles, y los ponían en camas y lechos, para que al pasar Pedro, a lo menos su sombra cayese sobre alguno de ellos. 16 Y aun de las ciudades vecinas muchos venían a Jerusalén, trayendo enfermos y atormentados de espíritus inmundos; y todos eran sanados.
Pedro y Juan son perseguidos
17 Entonces levantándose el sumo sacerdote y todos los que estaban con él, esto es, la secta de los saduceos, se llenaron de celos; 18 y echaron mano a los apóstoles y los pusieron en la cárcel pública. 19 Mas un ángel del Señor, abriendo de noche las puertas de la cárcel y sacándolos, dijo: 20 Id, y puestos en pie en el templo, anunciad al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida. 21 Habiendo oído esto, entraron de mañana en el templo, y enseñaban.
Entre tanto, vinieron el sumo sacerdote y los que estaban con él, y convocaron al concilio y a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron a la cárcel para que fuesen traídos. 22 Pero cuando llegaron los alguaciles, no los hallaron en la cárcel; entonces volvieron y dieron aviso, 23 diciendo: Por cierto, la cárcel hemos hallado cerrada con toda seguridad, y los guardas afuera de pie ante las puertas; mas cuando abrimos, a nadie hallamos dentro. 24 Cuando oyeron estas palabras el sumo sacerdote y el jefe de la guardia del templo y los principales sacerdotes, dudaban en qué vendría a parar aquello. 25 Pero viniendo uno, les dio esta noticia: He aquí, los varones que pusisteis en la cárcel están en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo. 26 Entonces fue el jefe de la guardia con los alguaciles, y los trajo sin violencia, porque temían ser apedreados por el pueblo.
27 Cuando los trajeron, los presentaron en el concilio, y el sumo sacerdote les preguntó, 28 diciendo: ¿No os mandamos estrictamente que no enseñaseis en ese nombre? Y ahora habéis llenado a Jerusalén de vuestra doctrina, y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de ese hombre.(A) 29 Respondiendo Pedro y los apóstoles, dijeron: Es necesario obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres. 30 El Dios de nuestros padres levantó a Jesús, a quien vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero. 31 A este, Dios ha exaltado con su diestra por Príncipe y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y perdón de pecados. 32 Y nosotros somos testigos suyos de estas cosas, y también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios a los que le obedecen.
33 Ellos, oyendo esto, se enfurecían y querían matarlos. 34 Entonces levantándose en el concilio un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerado de todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera por un momento a los apóstoles, 35 y luego dijo: Varones israelitas, mirad por vosotros lo que vais a hacer respecto a estos hombres. 36 Porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien. A este se unió un número como de cuatrocientos hombres; pero él fue muerto, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados y reducidos a nada. 37 Después de este, se levantó Judas el galileo, en los días del censo, y llevó en pos de sí a mucho pueblo. Pereció también él, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados. 38 Y ahora os digo: Apartaos de estos hombres, y dejadlos; porque si este consejo o esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá; 39 mas si es de Dios, no la podréis destruir; no seáis tal vez hallados luchando contra Dios.
40 Y convinieron con él; y llamando a los apóstoles, después de azotarlos, les intimaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y los pusieron en libertad. 41 Y ellos salieron de la presencia del concilio, gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por causa del Nombre. 42 Y todos los días, en el templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar a Jesucristo.

5 But a man [Forsooth some man], Ananias by name, with Sapphira, his wife, sold a field,
2 and defrauded of the price of the field; and his wife was witting. And he brought a part [And he brought some part], and laid [it] before the feet of the apostles.
3 And Peter said to him, Ananias, why hath Satan tempted thine heart, that thou lie to the Holy Ghost [Forsooth Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan tempted thine heart, thee to lie to the Holy Ghost], and to defraud of the price of the field?
4 Whether it unsold was not thine; and when it was sold, it was in thy power? Why hast thou put this thing in thine heart? Thou hast not lied to men, but to God.
5 Ananias heard these words, and felled down, and was dead [Forsooth Ananias hearing these words, felled down and died]. And great dread was made on all that heard.
6 And young men rose [rised], and moved him away, and bare him out, and buried.
7 And there was made a space of three hours, and his wife knew not that thing that was done, and entered. [Forsooth there was made as the space of three hours, and the wife of him not knowing that thing that was done, entered in.]
8 And Peter answered to her, Woman, say to me, whether ye sold the field for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
9 And Peter said to her, What befelled to you [What soothly came together to you, or accorded], to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of them that have buried thine husband be at the door, and they shall bear thee out.
10 At once [Anon] she felled down at his feet, and died. And the young men entered, and found her dead, and they bare her out, and buried [her] to her husband.
11 And great dread was made in all the church, and into all that heard these things.
12 And by the hands of the apostles signs and many wonders were made in the people. And all were of one accord in the porch of Solomon.
13 But no man of others durst join himself with them, but the people magnified them.
14 And the multitude of men and of women believing in the Lord was more increased,
15 so that they brought out sick men into streets, and laid in little beds and couches, that when Peter came, namely the shadow of him should shadow each of them, and they should be delivered from their sicknesses [that Peter coming, namely the shadow of him should shadow each of them, and they were delivered from all sicknesses].
16 And the multitude of cities nigh to Jerusalem ran, bringing sick men, and that were travailed of unclean spirits, which all were healed.
17 But the prince of priests rose up, and all that were with him, that is the heresy of Sadducees, and were filled with envy;
18 and they laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the common ward [and put them in common keeping].
19 But the angel of the Lord opened by night the gates of the prison [Forsooth the angel of the Lord by night opened the gates of the prison], and led them out, and said,
20 Go ye, and stand ye, and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21 Whom when they had heard, they entered early into the temple, and taught. And the prince of priests came, and they that were with him, and called together the council, and all the elder men of the children of Israel; and sent to the prison, that they should be brought forth.
22 And when the ministers came, and found them not, and for the prison was opened [Soothly when the ministers came, and, the prison opened, found them not], they turned again, and told,
23 and said [saying], [Forsooth] We found the prison shut with all diligence, and the keepers standing at the gates; but we opened, and found no man therein.
24 And as the magistrates of the temple, and the princes of priests heard these words, they doubted of them, what was done [what should be done].
25 But a man came, and told to them, For lo! those men which ye have put into prison, be in the temple, and stand, and teach the people[a].
26 Then the magistrate went with the ministers, and brought them without violence; for they dreaded the people, lest they should be stoned.
27 And when they had brought them, they set them in the council; and the prince of priests asked them,
28 and said, In commandment we commanded you [saying, In commanding we commanded you], that ye should not teach in this name, and lo! ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and ye will bring on us the blood of this man.
29 And Peter answered, and the apostles, and said, It behooveth to obey to God, more than to men.
30 [The] God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging in a tree.
31 God enhanced with his right hand this prince and Saviour, that penance were given to Israel [for to give penance to Israel], and remission of sins.
32 And we be witnesses of these words, and the Holy Ghost, whom God gave to all obeying to him.
33 When they heard these things, they were tormented, and thought to slay them.
34 But a man rose in the council, a Pharisee, Gamaliel by name, a doctor of the law, an honourable man to all the people [a worshipful man to all the people], and commanded the men to be put withoutforth for a while [to a short time].
35 And he said to them, Ye men of Israel, take attention to yourselves on these men, what ye shall do.
36 For before these days Theudas, that said himself to be some man [For before these days Theudas was, saying himself to be some man], to whom a number of men consented, about four hundred; which was slain, and all that believed to him [and all whoever believed to him], were scattered, and brought to nought.
37 After this, Judas of Galilee was in the days of profession, and turned away the people after him; and all how many ever consented to him, were scattered, and he perished.
38 And now therefore I say to you, depart ye from these men, and suffer ye them; for if this counsel either work [or work] is of men, it shall be undone;
39 but if it is of God, ye be not able to undo them, lest peradventure ye be found to repugn against God. [forsooth if it is of God, ye be not able to undo them, lest peradventure and ye be found for to repugn God.]
40 And they consented to him; and they called together the apostles, and commanded to them [and announced to them], that were beaten, that they should no more speak in the name of Jesus, and they let them go [and they left them].
41 And they went joying from the sight of the council, that they were had worthy to suffer despising for the name of Jesus.
42 But each day they ceased not in the temple, and about houses, to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
